Nigeria Takes One Step Towards World Cup Qualification By Defeating Ethiopia In Addis Ababa

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are 90 minutes away from clinching qualification to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil by defeating the Antelopes of Ethiopia 2-1 in a match played this afternoon in Addis Ababa.

As expected, Ethiopia started the brighter side, by dominating possession playing their self acclaimed "Tiki-Taka" style of football, as they had a goal disallowed in first half.

The Eagles went into the second half, much the same way they finished the first, as the Ethiopians again dictated play.

This was paid off when a judgemental error by Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama was counted as a goal for the Ethiopians.

The Eagles continued to push forward for a goal, but it wasn't forth coming, until striker, Emenike unleashed a shot from 20 yards out which beat the Ethiopian goalkeeper.

That goal took the sting out of the Ethiopians who did all they could to match the Super Eagles, but that was not to be, as a long pass from midfield found Emenike, who tried to drive the ball in the penalty area, but was hacked down by an Ethiopia defender.

The referee pointed to the spot for a penalty, which Emmanuel Emenike slotted calmly and sent the Ethipoian goalkeeper the wrong way.

Nigeria went on to win the match 2-1 and await the return leg which will be played at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar on the 16th of November 2013.
