The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on Wednesday said it had added street washing in some highbrow areas to preserve investments on some new roads in the state.
Mr Ola Oresanya, the General Manager of the authority, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that the authority had ten mechanical sweeping machines which sweep, wash and scrub roads in the night.
“We have commenced streets washing. We are washing some streets right now.
“We are not just sweeping, we are also washing. We wash the road after sweeping, then in the night we scrub with the kerb and the road itself.
“We have about ten mechanical sweepers and they work over night.
“We started at Lagos Secretariat, then Awolowo, Ikoyi, we have Kingsway road and Boudelon and other streets in high brow areas for now.
“Just to make sure that where we have new roads, they are preserved.
“It is all in our plan to see how we preserve our investments (roads), the public funds taxes that were used to make those roads.
“Those roads are made to last nothing less than 30 years and we must make sure they are really preserved.’’
The general manager also disclosed that, under the second ten year rolling plan, the authority planned to boost the economics of waste management.
He also said that the authority would expand its scope by having Material Recovery Facility.
According to him, the project is aimed at processing waste for domestic usage and for export.
He said majority of the waste would be exported to Asian countries where the waste would be converted. (NAN)

TMZ) Football superstar Lionel Messi just revealed the secret he's been keeping underneath his shinguard -- a brand new piece of body art ... and it's not going over very well in Europe.

It's a pretty simple design ... football, jersey number, sword, some roses -- but they're killing him for it overseas.

Some major media outlets are calling "terrible," "awful" and "the worst" ... and the Barcelona star isn't getting treated any better on social media:

-- "F**k your tattoo messi why you destroy your leg with this ugly s**t tattoo why please tell him to remove."

-- "That's an ugly tatoo..."

-- "All that talent can't account for taste"

The first gay wedding ceremonies in Scotland took place on Wednesday just after the stroke of midnight, as two couples tied the knot in Glasgow.

Dressed in kilts, Joe Schofield and Malcolm Brown, both 42, entered the Trades Hall to the sound of bagpipes at 11:30 pm on Tuesday, and after the clock chimed midnight, the formalities got under way.
They exchanged rings and embraced before signing the marriage register. Then Liz Lochead, Scotland’s national poet, read a specially-composed sonnet.

The couple also drank whisky from a quaich, a two-handled vessel often referred to as “the loving cup”, as per the Scottish tradition.
“We’ll go about our lives as normal, except I can confidently and happily say — at last — ‘this is my husband’. That’s great!” Brown told BBC television.

Across the city, Susan Douglas-Scott, 54, and Gerrie Douglas-Scott, 59, also tied the knot, with Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon as a witness.

“This a momentous day for equality in Scotland, one where same sex couples have the right to marry the person that they love,” Sturgeon said.
“This will send a powerful message to people about the kind of country we are.”
The Douglas-Scotts, who have five grown-up children, have been together for 18 years and entered a civil partnership in 2006.

Some 17 same-sex weddings were due to take place on the last day of the year, known as Hogmanay in Scotland.

Wednesday was the first day that wedding ceremonies could take place after a 15-day notice period from the law coming into effect on December 16.
More than 250 gay couples have already converted their civil partnerships into marriage this month.
Scotland is part of the United Kingdom but some of its laws are different to the rest of the country.
Same-sex marriage was legalised in England and Wales in March. Northern Ireland has no plans to introduce gay marriage.

Omonigho Abraham, the four-year-old boy attacked by dogs in the Igando area of Lagos State is beginning to regain his health in an India hospital.
PUNCH Metro gathered on Tuesday that Omonigho was in a stable condition and would return to the country between January and February 2015.
The national leader of a non-governmental organisation, Global Initiative for Peace, Love and Care, GIPLC, Mr. Nuhu Kwajafa, whose organisation was part of those that raised funds for the victim, told our correspondent on Tuesday that he was in a stable condition.
PUNCH Metro had reported on October 7, 2014, how Omonigho was attacked by two dogs belonging to his parents’ landlord, Stanley Wesley, at their residence on Adegboyega Street, Akesan Estate.
It was reported that the dogs chewed off his scalp and exposed his skull during an attack which his brothers escaped from.
He was rescued by his mother who fought off the dogs as policemen and helpless residents watched at the gate.
Our correspondent reported that his admission at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital was marred with claims of abandonment and at a point, the victim’s father, Mr. Odia Abraham, said his son’s condition had worsened due to negligence.
The hospital management had promised to take better care of Omonigho, adding that the state’s governor, Babatunde Fashola, had said the government would bear all the cost of his treatment.
The state government had agreed to foot a medical trip to Dubai, but the family turned down the offer, saying the Delta State Government and GIPLC had concluded arrangements and travel documents for Omonigbo’s trip to India.
Omonigho was flown to India on Friday, November 28, and had since been admitted in an undisclosed hospital.
He was said to have been accompanied by his mother, Helen.
Kwajafa said, “He is with his mother and they are both doing fine. From the report I got from them, his health is stable. He is recovering and between January and February, 2015, he will be back in Nigeria.
“The doctors there assessed the level of injuries and stabilised him. Everything is going on well and he’s been responding to treatment. What we lacked in Nigeria was just the expertise.
And that was why it was good that he was taken there for treatment.”

A 12-year-old boy, Samson Egunje, has been accused of killing his friend, Samuel Igbekele (pictured above), in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

The incident happened on Saturday on Omoboriowo Street.

Residents said the suspect, a primary six pupil, had been looking for the victim all day, saying he abused him in the morning and threatening that he would stab him in revenge.

Egunje was said to have stabbed Samuel with a bottle in the neck that evening while he (Samuel), a primary three pupil, ran errand for a neighbour.

After the attack, the victim reportedly held his neck as he ran across the road in a frantic effort to get to his parents’ house which was a few kilometres away.

Samuel, after taking some feeble steps, was said to have collapsed.

A resident, Ibrahim Sulaiman, said he saw him on the floor in a pool of blood that night.

He said, “I was under a tent where some people had had a wedding ceremony. I saw some kids playing with bottles and I drove them away.

“After I finished drinking with my friends, I went to a woman selling noodles and asked her to prepare some for me and that I would come back for it.

“While returning for my noodles, I saw the woman beaming a torch on the boy, and when I asked her who he was, she said she did not know him.”

The victim’s father, Solomon, a bricklayer, said his landlord’s son alerted him to the incident and he took him for medical treatment.

He explained that Samuel was about to eat his dinner on the fateful night when the neighbour sent him on an errand.

“It was not up to five minutes when my landlord’s son ran in and said my son had been stabbed with a bottle.

“I ran there and saw him on the floor. I took him to a nearby hospital and the nurses there did not want to accept him from us, but when the doctor came out and examined him, he certified him dead on arrival,” he said.

The victim’s mother, Mary, told our correspondent that she took Samuel’s corpse to the suspect’s mother’s house.

She said she laid him in front of the house for more than one hour because she momentarily lost her mind.

“Before Samuel died, I asked him who stabbed him and he kept saying ‘Samson, Samson’ before he went silent.

“I asked Samson why he killed my son, and he said Samuel abused him in the morning and he had promised to stab him.

“My son had just bought new clothes and shoes for the New Year celebration, but he can no longer wear them. They have taken away my joy.”

She said she suspected the suspect’s mother was trying to bury the case, adding that nothing would satisfy her than to see her son get justice.

Our correspondent learnt that the Ikotun Police Division had arrested Egunje and five other kids in the neighbourhood.

The corpse has been deposited at the Isolo hospital morgue.

PUNCH Metro visited the residence of the Egunjes and met some residents who initially were reluctant to speak about the incident.

After some banters with our correspondent, one of them, who did not identify herself said the suspect, who was in primary six, was not known for unruly behaviour.

She said, “We didn’t even know about the incident until the boy’s mother brought the corpse to the front of the house.

“Samson was well-behaved and when he has done something wrong, he will start crying and tell you what he has done. There were several kids with him that night and it is doubtful he killed the boy. Even the corpse showed there was just a small gash in his neck.”

It was learnt that the suspect’s parents were separated and he lived with his mother.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu confirmed the incident.

He said, “The matter is almost concluded and ready for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. Five suspects have been arrested.

The mother of Wizkid’s son, Sola Ogudugu is in hot romance with the son of foremost lawyer Femi Falana’s son, Folarin aka Falz. Sola took to Instagram a few hours ago where she revealed the man in her life in a picture captioned “Hello Bae. The weather h’over hia is Hot AF! But since you’re hia with me. .. I’ll try not to gif hup! #Falz”. For those not in the know, Folarin Falana aka Falz or Falz ‘The Bad Guy’ is a musician, and an entertainer. He attended St. Leo’s Catholic Primary School, Ikeja, then proceeded to Olashore International School, in Osun State after which he went to study Law in the University of Reading, United Kingdom. Then he came back and went to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja where he qualified as a Barrister.

Passengers on board doomed AirAsia flight 8501 would have have been aware that the plane was going crash, it has emerged, after search pilots revealed victims had time to put on life jackets.

Representatives from Basarnas, Indonesia's search and rescue agency, said a seventh body recovered from the Java Sea this morning was wearing a life jacket, while a pilot assisting the operation claimed three of the victims were found floating in the water still holding hands.

Some of the recovered bodies were fully clothed, which could indicate the Airbus A320-200 was intact when it hit the water - supporting the theory that the plane did not explode or break up in mid-air and may instead have suffered an aerodynamic stall.

The fact that one person put on a life jacket suggests those on board had time before the aircraft hit the water, or before it sank.

This would make the search pilot's claim that three of the victims were found still holding hands more feasible, as it suggests not all passengers died on impact, although it raises questions over why the AirAsia captain did not raise a distress signal before the crash.

Ships and planes have been scouring the Java Sea for flight QZ8501 since Sunday, when the AirAsia plane lost contact during bad weather 42 minutes into its flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore.

Despite suggestions passengers may have been alive during the plane's final few moments in the air, the the pilots did not issue a distress signal in the time between asking permission to fly higher to avoid bad weather and six minutes later when air traffic control lost contact with the plane.

'This morning, we recovered a total of four bodies and one of them was wearing a life jacket,' said Tatang Zaenudin, an official with the search and rescue agency.

He declined to speculate on what the find might mean.
Earlier Lieutenant Airman Tri Wobowo, who co-piloted the C130 Hercules aircraft that first saw debris of the plane on Tuesday, told Indonesian newspaper Kompas: 'There are seven to eight people. Three [of them] again hold hands.'

A pilot who works for a Gulf carrier said the life jacket indicated the cause of the crash was not 'catastrophic failure'. Instead, the plane could have stalled and then come down, possibly because its instruments iced up and gave the pilots inaccurate readings.

'There was time. It means the thing didn't just fall out of the sky,' said the pilot, who declined to be identified.

He said it could take a minute for a plane to come down from 30,000 feet and the pilots could have experienced 'tunnel vision ... too overloaded' to send a distress call.

'The first train of thought when you get into a situation like that is to fly the aircraft.'

Gen. Buhari's New Year message to Nigerian youths...
As we welcome the year 2015, I have shared a message to Nigerians in general, but I find it crucial to send another message directly to Nigeria’s youth, who are the major stakeholders of this enterprise.
The year 2014 was a challenging one for most citizens of our dear country.

We remember our compatriots who were brutishly killed or maimed by evil terrorists in 2014. I remember with a still broken heart that 219 of our children from Chibok are yet missing, let down by a country that should protect them. I remember that, even as I speak, some of our towns and villages are yet under the occupation of Boko Haram.

Yes, it is enough for you to despair. It is enough for you to wonder if your country cares about you and can protect you. But do not despair.

2015 has arrived at a time of great discomfort; but the beauty of the New Year is that we can look forward with renewed hope and the knowledge that things can and will change.

In Nigeria’s case, we can truly look forward to the change that the elections can, and will, bring. Our country will be secure again. Our country will prosper again.

I have faith that 2015 is the year we shall begin to write a new story - a story of our youth creating jobs and expanding the frontiers of innovation and creativity everywhere from Mavin Records to the Co-Creation Hub; a story of genuine investment in our children and students be they in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka or in the Delta State University, Abraka; a country that finally makes a permanent shift from our debilitating dependence on the free-falling price of crude oil.

I have unshakeable faith that 2015 will be the year of change.

Now some of you have asked me: what exactly does ‘change’ mean?

I have taken time to explain this at different opportunities, but on this special day, let me remind you in five short statements.

Change means:

1.      A country that you can be proud of at anytime and anywhere: where corruption is tackled, where your leaders are disciplined and lead with vision and clarity; where the stories that emerge to the world from us are full of hope and progress.
2.     A Nigeria in which neither yourselves, nor your parents, families or friends will have to fear for your safety, or for theirs.
3.     A Nigeria where citizens get the basics that any country should provide: infrastructure that works, healthcare that is affordable, even free; respect for the environment and sustainable development, education that is competitive and outcome-oriented in a knowledge-economy.
4.     A country that provides jobs for its young people, reducing unemployment to the lowest of single digits and providing safety nets so that no one is left behind.
5.     A Nigeria where entrepreneurship thrives, enterprise flourishes and the government gets out of your way so that you can create value, build the economy and aggressively expand wealth.
Are these things truly possible? Of course. That is the essence and outcome of leadership, and that is what my party and I promise you as we get into 2015.
My dear friends, this New Year, more than ever before, I am hopeful about Nigeria.

Yes, you are disappointed and you are angry, as you are entitled to, but you must never give in to the temptation to feel so weighed down by those who have failed you that you lose your hope and your energy and your passion to see change. You must never give up on Nigeria.
Together, we can build a nation that is secure, prosperous and gives everyone a fair chance.
This is the promise that 2015 holds. That is the promise that change will bring. That is the promise that I bring to you.
Once again, I wish everyone a happy and prosperous New Year.
Thank you and God bless Nigeria.

The most likely cause of the deadly outbreak of
Ebola in West Africa was a young boy playing
near a colony of virus-infected bats nestled in a
hollowed-out tree, scientists believe.

The two-year-old boy - described as the index
case, or patient zero - became infected and was
the first to die in his village in Meliandou, Guinea in December last year.

It is thought 'patient zero' was Emile Ouamouno, described as a playful toddler by his
father Etienne.

Before his death, on December 6, 2013, Emile
had been near a tree harbouring the free-tailed
bats.

The toddler came down with a sky-high fever, began vomiting and passing black stools.

It took four days for the disease to claim Emile's life, and he passed away on December 6, 2013.

His sister Philomene fell ill on Christmas Day last year, and was dead before New Year.

Their mother followed, along with their grandmother, Etienne said earlier this year. The disease then spread to other members of the community before spreading to other parts of
Guinea.

She's been making the most of the single life
since splitting from her boyfriend French
Montana.
And Khloe Kardashian pulled out all the stops in
the style stakes as she hosted a pre-New Year's
Eve party at 1OAK Nightclub inside the Mirage
Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.
The feisty reality star looked incredible in a
plunging black sequinned gown, which
shimmered under the spotlights as she made a
VIP entrance to the club.

Khloe's little number was the perfect festive
piece, showing off just the right amount of skin
with its low-cut neckline and sexy side-split, yet
retaining an air of modesty thanks to its long
sleeves.
The brunette, who was joined by her best
friends Malika Haqq and her twin Khadijah at
the event, was dolled up with a heavy smoky
eye and a deep nude lipstick.
She wore her hair up in a glamorous ponytail
and added a pair of gold hoop earrings for
some extra drama.

Vice Presidential Candidate of the APC, Prof Yemi Osibajo says it is only Nigerians who love hunger that will return the present
administration into office in 2015. He said this at a town hall meeting for artisans, tradesmen and farmers organised by the Lagos state government at the state
secretariat yesterday December 30th 2015.

"No one is ignorant of all that is
happening to us in this country. No
one likes hunger and poverty; but
people are hungry. In 2015, only those
who love to continue to be hungry
would prefer that the government in
power at the centre remains there. By
God's grace, we would remove them
from the seat of power. The people
there presently cannot do anything,
because they don't know how to. They
lack the capacity and capability to
govern the country. I pray for the
farmers and artisans that the Lord will
bless us in the incoming year." he said

As from first of January 2015, prices of imported used cars otherwise known as Tokunbo or second-hand cars are expected to go up as the second phase of the
national automotive policy which was announced in November 2013, will
commence.

Car dealers would be expected to pay the
federal government 70% duty on all imported cars. FG had in 2013 introduced
the national automotive policy with the view
of encouraging local assemblage of automobiles in Nigeria, increasing the
import tariff from 22% to 70%. The first phase of the policy involving the payment
of 35% duty came into effect in February 2014 while the second phase which would have started in July this year was postponed
to Jan. 2015.

A dismissed worker of Tecno phones Nigeria Ltd, Stella Chimezie, has been arrested for conspiring with four men to rob her former employer in Abuja.

Chimezie, along with Abdulazeez
Abdulraseed, Okafor Okwudili, Moses
Joseph and Peter Akoo, were paraded by
the FCT Police Commissioner, Wilson
Inalegwu, on Tuesday, for stealing four
Tecno phones and seven phone screens
valued at N500,000.
According to Punch ,Inalegwu explained that
Chimezie invited the men to burgle the
company office, but the robbers
surprisingly attacked and robbed her of her
phones and handbag as well.
But in the course of the police
investigations, the CP stated that it was
discovered that it was Chimezie that invited
the suspects to burgle her former employer's office.

Chimezie, however, denied conniving with the men to rob, saying the Tecno phones
and the phone screens that were recovered from them belonged to the company where she worked.

She said,
"It is not true that I invited the men to steal phones at my former office; what happened was that two of the men worked as security guards in my office and on December 16, 2014, when I went to the office, I found that they have used the key in their care to open the office and they took some phones. When I challenged them, they promised to sell the phone and give me part of the money, but they later attacked me and snatched my
phones and bag.

The CP also paraded 25 armed robbery
suspects and one Akorgwu Noah of the
National Hospital, Abuja,for allegedly
stabbing John Akor to death with a broken
beer bottle while celebrating Christmas at a
bar in Kubwa.
He said that the command has so far
recovered 17 stolen vehicles, 14 of which
had been released to their owners. He
added that over 203 stolen cattle had also
been recovered from rustlers who operated
from Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi States.
"The suspects will be charged to court after
investigations are concluded," Inalegwu
said.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, January 2, 2015 as public
holiday to mark Eid el Maloud.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, on behalf of the government.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Makaji
Abdulahi, Moro urged Muslim faithful and all Nigerians to pray for the peace and unity
of the country.

Moro further urged all Nigerians to engage in violent free activities in the run off to the 2015 general elections and to support President Goodluck Jonathan's transformation agenda to move Nigeria to
the next level of development.

Moro also wished all Muslim faithful and Nigerians a very peaceful celebration

A People Democratic Party (PDP) House of
Representative aspirant, Ms Aisha Osori, has dumped the PDP for the All Progressives
Congress (APC) after emerging winner on the
PDP platform.

Osori made the announcement on Tuesday in
Abuja while briefing newsmen at the APC
national secretariat.

NAN recalls that Osori emerged winner at the
just concluded AMAC/Bwari federal constituency primary in the Federal Capital
Territory.

Osori, who was presented with the membership
card of the APC, told newsmen she decided to
carpet-cross after watching the APC primary because she believed in Osibanjo, who was her lecturer at one time.

"I decided to denounce membership after
watching the APC conduct its presidential primary in a fair and competitive manner and after seeing the combination of Osibanjo and
Buhari, both men of integrity.

"Osibanjo used to teach me at the University of Lagos, faculty of law, I believe that is a great combination that would move the country forward and I want to be part of that team," she said.

According to her, the APC slogan 'Change' is enough reason to support the party as she was sure of winning the on the platform of APC.

Osori noted that more than 70 per cent of Nigerians were youths who wanted the change that "APC represents".

On what her contribution would be to ensure the success of the APC at the general elections, Osori, who is the CEO of the Nigerian
Women's Trust Fund, cited experience.

"The years of experience I garnered in the private sector as a lawyer and also as writer, first with Thisday and later with Leadership
newspapers will be of value to APC.

Reacting to the defection, the APC National Secretary, Mai-Mala Buni, who presented the membership card to Osori, expressed delight because his party was waxing stronger by the
day.

"Such event will be a continuous thing. Our
doors are open. Everybody, who is ready to join the party, is welcome anytime, any day," he said.

Another medical doctor, Muyiwa Alonge,
with the Federal Medical Centre, Owo,
narrowly escaped death in the early hours of
Tuesday after gunmen broke into his home
in Aule, in Akure metropolis.
The attack is coming barely a week after his
professional colleague, Dr. David
Oguntuase, was suspected to have been
assassinated and burnt beyond recognition.
Incidentally, Dr. Alonge and Dr. Oguntuase
were on the list of persons accused of
threatening the life of the Medical Director
of FMC, Dr. Olufemi Omotoso.
Dr. Longe told our correspondent on
Tuesday that the attackers broke through
his door violently brandishing dangerous
weapons and threatened to kill him.
"They actually did not ask for anything.
They said they came to kill me. For over 30
minutes I pleaded with them and prayed,
and somehow they changed their minds,"
the traumatized medical doctor said.
He also narrated that he was hit with a
metal and manhandled in the presence of
his wife and children.
"I can only say that I escaped with my life
through the help of God. They came in
about 2.00am. They were two that came in
and we suspected that there were others
waiting outside," he said.
He said the gunmen eventually went away
with his computers, money and his phones.
Dr. Longe said the matter had been
reported at the Okuta Elerinla Police Station
in Akure.
Only on Monday, the Nigerian Medical
Association, Ondo State, called on the
Government and its agencies to provide
security for the other eight members
alleged to be after the life of Dr. Omotoso
to forestall any threat to their lives.
Police Public Relations Officer, Wole
Ogodo, when contacted, said he was yet to
be briefed on the matter and would get
back to our correspondent when he
receives information.

A group of disaffected soldiers launched a foiled
coup bid in The Gambia on Tuesday while the
west African state's iron-fisted leader was in
Dubai, military and diplomatic sources said.

Forces loyal to President Yahya Jammeh, who
has ruled the small country for 20 years, killed
three suspects including the alleged ringleader
-- an army deserter, a military officer said.
The officer, speaking to AFP from Bissau, said
the deserter named as Lamin Sanneh led a
heavily-armed attack with another six men on
the presidential palace in the capital Banjul.

The pre-dawn assault triggered panic in the
tropical city, while national radio went off air
for several hours and state television was
suspended.

Opposition politician Sheikh Sidya Bayo told a
private Senegalese radio station that the unrest
was "the start of a mutiny that changed" into a
bid to topple Jammeh.

Three of the suspected coup plotters were killed
and another captured by Jammeh's forces, but
there was no confirmation of an overall death
toll from the fighting.
"Police and the army are now entirely in control
of the situation," the military officer told AFP
on condition of anonymity.

A Gambian diplomat said the presidential palace
was attacked at around 3:00 am (0300 GMT) by
armed men, including members of the
presidential guard.

"They wanted to overthrow the regime," a
military source told AFP, while a Western
diplomat said a coup attempt has "apparently
been foiled".
Army patrols urged people to return home and
remain calm as they fanned out across the
capital. Shops, banks offices and businesses
were closed and few vehicles were on the
streets.

"Contrary to rumours, there is peace and calm
in the country and people are advised to go
about their normal businesses. We are praying
for peace and tranquility to continue," state
radio announced late Monday, quoting a
government statement.

Barcelona will not be allowed to sign any
players in 2015 after their appeal against a
transfer ban was dismissed by the Court of
Arbitration for Sport.

The Spanish club was handed a 14-month ban in
April after being found guilty of breaching Fifa's
rules on the transfer of players aged under 18.

Fifa rejected an appeal in August but the
pending appeal to Cas allowed Barca to sign
players including Luis Suarez.

Barcelona has expressed its "utter nonconformity
with the resolution".

The players concerned in the infringement of Fifa
rules were registered and participated in
competitions with Barcelona between 2009 and
2013.

Cas said: "The panel found in particular that FC
Barcelona had breached the rules regarding the
protection of minors and the registration of
minors attending football academies.

"Accordingly, the Fifa decision is confirmed in
full and the sanction remains in force.
"In view of the need to issue a decision before
the opening of the next transfer window, the
panel has issued its decision without the
grounds. The full arbitral award, with the
reasons for the panel's decision, will be issued as
soon as possible."

A Barcelona statement added: "The errors that
the club might have committed, and which have
been recognised and argued before the corresponding authorities, are, in all cases, of an administrative nature and to a large extent have
been caused by the existing conflict between the
Fifa regulations and Spanish legislation, along with the club's conviction that it was acting correctly.

"Therefore, FC Barcelona considers the sanction
to be completely disproportionate as it supposes an excessive punishment for the club, when considering its trajectory and the circumstances of this specific case."
Barca went on a summer spending spree this
year while the suspension went on hold during
the appeals process, splashing out more than
150m euros (£117.5m) on Suarez, Ivan Rakitic,
Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Thomas Vermaelen,
Claudio Bravo, Jeremy Mathieu and Alen
Halilovic.
