The Lagos State Government has vowed to prosecute a 70-year old woman for applying pepper in a 12-year old boy's joystick for alleged stealing of money.

The government also vowed to prosecute another woman who engaged in begging for alms the two children she brought from the village to assist her in trading.

The children were brought to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, WAPA, after they have been rescued in Badagry, Ajamgbadi and Maza-Maza areas of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria by government officials and the police on Tuesday.

Permanent Secretary, WAPA, Omobolanle Ogunmola said the ministry got a text message that a 12-year old child (name withheld) was being abused by a woman, who is around 70 years of age for alleged stealing by applying pepper in his private part and beating him severely with marks on his body.

"Our team went to Badagry to rescue the boy who attends Ansarudeen Secondary School. From the information gotten from the school, the accused are old. The woman is around 70 years and the husband, over 75 years, so we could not arrest them, but that does not mean we are not going to prosecute them. We are going to prosecute them. We will take custody of the boy and take him to school in one of our transient homes," she said.

Ogunmola said the state government had declared zero tolerance on child abuse and domestic violence, saying that government would not hesitate to prosecute people found to have violated the rights of children in the state.

On the woman who engaged two children in begging, Ogunmola said government was also going to prosecute the woman for engaging the children in begging, advising parents to live up to their responsibilities by not releasing their children to live with others without proper investigation.

She said government had lots of child abuse cases being prosecuted at various Family Courts in the State, with some of the culprits being jailed, saying that "as we arrest culprits, we hand them over to the police for prosecution."

However, the 12 year old boy confirmed that the 70-year old woman applied pepper on his private part for stealing money which he admitted to, saying that since his mother left him, he had been staying with his relation who happened to be the aged woman.

He identified the aged woman simply as Mrs Amosun, but the boy refused to disclosed how much he stole due to shame and fear, admitting that the old woman applied pepper to his joystick for stealing some money.

One of the girls being engaged in begging (name withheld) said the woman, identified as Amaka told her parents in Abia State that she wanted to engage the girl in selling provision for her in Lagos, noting that on getting to Lagos, she was turned into a beggar and paid N100 every month.

The girl, 19, who was discovered to be pregnant, said one of the boys in the neighbourhood got her pregnant, saying that she detested begging which she normally did at Alaba Market in Ajamgbadi.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call the State Security Service, SSS, to order, and to ensure the agency does not harass electoral officials.

The PDP said the new director general of the SSS, Lawal Daura, had been a card carrying member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and must be cautioned.

The party made the call in a statement Wednesday.

Full statement:

The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party at its meeting on Thursday thoroughly considered a number of very important issues pertaining to the state of affairs in our nation.

The NWC brings to the attention of President Muhammadu Buhari to some disturbing development in the polity which, if not nipped in the bud, might significantly affect our democracy and stability as a nation negatively, and that is the growing and unwarranted intrusion of some over-zealous security operatives on issues bordering purely on politics.

In particular, the NWC wishes to draw the attention of the President to the continued intimidation, harassment as well as the hounding, arrest and detention of Electoral Officers and members of election tribunals by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and other PDP states.

The NWC notes that this unfortunate development has been the case since the appointment of the new Director General of the DSS, Lawal Musa Daura, whom we learnt was a critical intelligence stakeholder of the APC as a card-carrying member of that party during the campaigns. This is ungodly and unacceptable.

We do hope that in his new job, the Director General of DSS is not mixing issues on the APC presidential candidate and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hence the need for Mr. President to rein him in as the development is capable of eroding the cherished independence of the judiciary and the electoral commission, a sine qua non for a virile democracy, which guarantees our unity and stability as a nation.
Similarly, we urge Mr. President to take a critical look at the issue of the appointment of Amina Zakari as Acting Chairman of INEC for which our party has severally raised some salient issues why she is not suitable for that position. It is incontrovertible that Mrs. Zakari by virtue of her blood relationship with Mr. President cannot preside over the affairs of an Independent National Electoral Commission.

Nigeria belongs to all of us irrespective of political, religious and ethnic affiliation and as a responsible political party we shall not fold our hands and watch while our nation drift along dangerous line.

Furthermore, the NWC commends and congratulates the PDP caucuses in the Senate and the House of Representatives on the smooth emergence of the Minority leadership in the National Assembly. We note that the process was without any interferences whatsoever from the leadership of our great party in keeping with the dictates of the independence of the legislature.

Finally, the NWC deliberated on the state of the party in Ekiti State and resolved that it only recognizes the state Exco led by Chief Idowu Faleye. The NWC however summons all critical stakeholders in the party administration in Ekiti State to a meeting with the national leadership on the issues in the state chapter.

Two months after losing power at the national level and in majority of the states, the national leadership of the former ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, has concluded plans to sack half of its workforce.

Towards this end, the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wale Oladipo, has communicated the decision of the National Working Committee of the party to all its directors.

Oladipo made the party's decision known via a memo dated July 29, 2015, which was directed to "all directors and PS/DD/HOD/SAs/PAs and Establishment Staff" of the party in Abuja.

It was titled "Re-organisation and restructuring of staff at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party."

Oladipo said the decision to cut down on the number of staff and other measures were taken at the 406 meeting of the NWC, where he said the report "on the reorganisation and restructuring of staff at the national secretariat" and decisions was approved.

Apart from the reduction in the number of the staff on the payroll at the party's headquarters, he said the salaries and allowances of those to be left behind would also be cut by as much as 50 per cent.

He listed the decisions to include "reduction of the allowance of all NWC members by 50 per cent and reduction in the number of security personnel attached to the national officers by 50 per cent."

Other measures included "reduction of the salaries and allowances of all staff (Establishment and Staff of NWC members) by 50 per cent, effective August, 2015.

"Abolition of Research Directorate and transfer of its functions to the Peoples Democratic Institute."

Oladipo added that "Establishment staff who would remain are required to obtain individual letter of revalidation from their state chapters within one month of this circular as to their suitability for service at the national secretariat."

Before the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan, who was the presidential candidate of the party, by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, the PDP was usually being funded by the Presidency.

Apart from this, it also got money from the state governors, majority of whom were unable to deliver their states to the party during the last elections.

The party also got money from selling of forms to aspirants. But a source within the party said the "party lacks transparency and proper accountability."

Investigations by our correspondent indicated that the decision to reduce the staff strength of the party was taken about a month ago by its NWC.

The NWC was said to have been angered by the decision of the workers of the party to collect furniture allowance.

Besides, the members of staff of the party were said to be privy to several withdrawal of money by the NWC members.

A senior staff of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity said, "We are in trouble in this party. The NWC members are lords unto themselves.

"There is no one to control them and the finances of the party. They have paid themselves several allowances. Even during the last Sallah break, they took money.

"But because we demanded for our furniture allowance, see the memo they gave us. The idea behind this is to sack us and then they will bring in their cronies."

The gunman who attempted to assassinate the President last Sunday has said he wanted to do so in the best interest of the nation.

According Charles Antwi, he wanted to save Ghana from the bad governance under the Mahama-led administration.

The suspect, Charles Antwi told the court that killing the President was his way of fighting for the nation.

According to him, the recurrent energy crisis coupled with economic hardships informed his decision to attempt to kill President John Mahama.

He also told the Court that after the death of President Atta Mills in 2012, he, Antwi should have been sworn in as President.

Antwi was last Sunday arrested at the Ringway Assemblies of God Church in Accra; the church where the President, his family and the Chief Justice, Georgina Woode worship.

The President and his family were not in church last Sunday, but security operatives escorted the "fidgety" and "suspicious" looking Antwi out before they found the gun on him.

He has since been sentenced to 10 years in jail.

The organizers, Africa Magic and Endemol were ALLEGEDLY unable to get sponsorship for this year's edition of the controversial show.

The Manager of Multichoice Ghana, Anne Sackey confirmed on Sunday that they at Multichoice Ghana had received notice from MNET that this year's edition of Big Brother Africa would not hold.

She explained that MNET did not give them any reasons as why they would not be holding the Big Brother this year, but then, "she personally thinks it's due to sponsorship constraints".

Last week, the online portal first broke the story that Keshi has dragged the NFF to court for "wrongful dismissal and defamation".

A top source told AfricanFootball.com that Keshi's lawyers have demanded for a billion Naira from the NFF as compensation for defaming their client.

The letter from the Kaduna-based law firm was received by the NFF on Friday.

Keshi was sacked by the NFF on July 5 after the NFF disciplinary committee investigated various allegations against him.

This was four months after the 53-year-old coach signed a new two-year contract after his initial three-year deal with the NFF ran out at last year's World Cup in Brazil.

Bobbi Kristina Brown has died aged 22 - six months after she was found unconscious in a bathtub.

The aspiring singer was rushed to hospital and placed in a medically-induced coma on January 31 after she was discovered face-down in the water-filled tub at her townhouse in Roswell, Georgia.

She passed away, surrounded by her family, at the hospice on Sunday - just 3 years after her famous mother, singer Whitney Houston, died aged 48 in a bathtub at a hotel in Beverly Hills.

Officials are planning to treat the death of Bobbi Kristina, who was found in the tub with bruises on her face and body, swollen lips and a missing tooth, as a murder investigation.

The person of interest in the case will reportedly be her boyfriend, Nick Gordon.

The Houston family said on Sunday night that Bobbi Kristina 'is finally at peace in the arms of God.'

In a statement via a representative, they said: 'Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July, 26 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.'

SUNDAY PUNCH gathered that the deceased, Idoko Nicholas Inalegwu, died in controversial circumstances after receiving the news of his withdrawal after spending 10 years in medical school.

Idoko was withdrawn for failing a re-sit.

A student, who spoke to one of our correspondents on telephone on condition of anonymity, said they believed that Idoko took his life because he could not bear the news that his 10 years in medical was in vain.

"He had been talking about it; that he wished he died a painless death; that the school had finished him. There is nowhere in the world that a medical student is withdrawn after spending 10 years," he said.

The student said the students had complained about the manner in which examinations were conducted, where re-sits were prolonged for up to one year, as against the stipulated six weeks, with no efforts to engage the students.

The students, after an altercation at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital mortuary, obtained the coffin of their dead colleague and marched to the VC's office, vowing not to leave until their grievances were resolved.

All efforts to reach the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs. Charity Angya, for comments proved been abortive as she neither picked several calls made to her mobile phone nor responded to a text message sent to her as of the time of filling this report.

My source tells me that the deceased actually died as he was said to have taken an unknown substance (presumably Alcohol) and drove his car at top speed and crashed it. He died immediately.

Speaking exclusively with LIB, Timaya said it was consensual sex and the girl is now blackmailing him. Timaya admitted that he hooked up with the girl (pictured above) in his Atlanta hotel, but says she agreed to the sex.

He said the girl, who he has been talking to for about a year, contacted him when she found out he was in the US for his tour and bugged him to see him. He told her where he was and she came to see him. He said from the minute she entered the room, she started filming him.

He said after they finished having sex, the girl continued filming him and began asking him questions. He said she asked him if he enjoyed the sex and he said yes, then she asked him if she could follow him to his show and he said no that he's working...but that she could come later and he would tell his people to let her in. She then told him that they didn't use a condom, what if she gets pregnant? Timaya said he told her that he didn't want another baby, that he just got a baby.

Timaya said she continued asking him questions until he became very suspicious and dragged her phone from her. That was when he realized that the girl had been filming him the whole time. He said he deleted the photos/video recordings and asked her what her intentions/plans were? He gave her back her phone and then realized that for Iphones, you have to delete twice before it will be completely wiped off. He then asked her for the phone and she refused to give it to him so he called hotel security.

The hotel security came to the room and asked the lady why she was filming Timaya and she said it was nothing serious, just for fun. Timaya asked the hotel security to remove the girl from his room but only after the lady has deleted the video recordings. The hotel security advised Timaya to let the girl go, that if she calls the police and tells them he's holding her hostage, it's a crime in the US. That was how he let her go. Timaya said at no point did she tell security that she had been raped when he called security on her.

And after she left, she began calling to threaten him, saying she would mess him up and ruin his career for taking things far and calling security on her.

He said she called him again demanding for money to take herself to the hospital. He said he left money by the reception for her and she came to collect it. Then she called again to harass him. When she continued harassing and threatening him, he began begging her because she'd already called someone in Nigeria that he was close to accusing him of rape. She told the dude that for her to keep quiet, Timaya has to pay her $50,000 or she will publish their recordings. He said he was begging her to stop the blackmail and not because of any rape.

He said when the girl refused to stop, he changed his US number, blocked her on Whatsapp, and instagram so she could no longer reach him for bargain and that was when she created the account on instagram to carry out her threat.

Kenya is an anti-gay country. Below is what President Obama said when asked during a press conference this afternoon in Nairobi what he thinks about gay rights in Kenya.

"The US believes in the principle of treating people equally under the law and that they are deserving of equal protection under the law.and that the state should not discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation and I say that recognizing that there may be people that have different religious or cultural beliefs but the issue is how does the state operate relative to people. You can look at the history of people around the world. When you start treating people differently not because of the harm they are doing to anybody but because they are different, that's the path whereby freedom is beginning to erode.
If somebody is a law abiding citizen who is going about their business and not breaking any law and obeying the traffic signs and doing all the things good citizens are supposed to do and not harming anybody, the idea they are treated differently based on who they love is wrong. Full stop."he said.

Below is Kenyan president, Uhuru Kenyatta's response on the issue

"The fact of the matter is Kenya and US share so many values, democracy, entrepreneurship, family values. These are things we share but there are some things we do not share. Our culture our societies don't accept. Its very difficult for us to be able to impose on people that which they themselves do not accept. This is why I repeatedly say that for Kenyans today, the issue of gayrights is really a non issue. We want to focus on other areas that are day to day living for our people. Our health issues as we have discussed with president Obama. These are critical. Issues of inclusivity of women, a key section of society that is normally left out of the mainstream of economic development. What we can do in terms of infrastructure, Education, Roads, Power and Entrepreneurship. Maybe once like you have overcome some of these challenges we can begin to look at new once but the fact remains that this issue is not one that is in the foremost minds of Kenyans and that is the fact"he said.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has barred pregnant women, nursing mothers and Post graduate students from partaking in the national service across the country.

NYSC DG, Brig-Gen. Johnson Olawumi, said the exemption of people in these categories from service was because they would not be able to undergo the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC, which is mobilisation, orientation, primary assignment and winding-up passing out parade.

Olawumi said it didn't make sense that pregnant women and nursing mothers would be absent from these stages of the national service, only to resurface for posting to their various places of primary assignments. The NYSC also said that pregnant women and children would no longer be allowed into orientation camps across the country.

President Muhammadu Buhari will be visiting Washington D.C, the US capital for his meeting with President Barack Obama next week, Monday with an announced 32-man delegation and unannounced aides numbering an average of 10 that would be accompanying governors, ex-governors, State House officials and businessmen.

This will bring the total number of Nigerians on this visit with President Buhari to about 229, being the biggest Presidential delegation in Nigerian democratic history. This contingent will cost Nigeria about N2.2billion from the virtually empty Treasury.

The Presidency have earlier announced that those expected to join the President on the visit include Governors Kashim Shettima (Borno), Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa) and Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) Each with 15 aids.

The rather large delegation will also have former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi; Buhari's running mate in the 2011 presidential election, Pastor Tunde Bakare; former President of the Newspapers Proprietors' Association of Nigeria (NPAN) and publisher of The Democrat, Ismaila Isa Funtua; a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau; and Halilu Sheni, a businessman.

Others in the delegation will include officials in the presidency and some heads of government parastatals.

Apart from the number about about 10 government officials have already left for the United States in what they claimed is preparing grounds for the Visit.

There are reports that the DSS has detained the Chief Security Officer to former President Jonathan, Gordon Obua. According to a report by Punch, Obua was arrested and detained on Thursday July 16 as part of measures by the new administration to probe officials who worked under GEJ's. The order for his arrest was given by President Buhari.

The reason for the detention of the former CSO is not immediately known but a source told Punch that investigators maybe trying to gather info on key officials in Jonathan's government from Obua

"The arrest and detention of the former CSO is an indication that every former minister or senior official under Jonathan's government are not exempted from probe except those that have no criminal suspicion or record of wrong doing in office," a source explained.
More officials who served under GEJ are expected to be arrested and detained in the coming weeks as president Buhari has reported mandated DSS to recover  all looted funds by previous government.

A major accomplice of rogue broadcaster Radio Biafra, an engineer based in Enugu has been apprehended by the Department of State Security operatives. The suspect as Daily Sun exclusively gathered yesterday was being transported to Abuja as at Press time of filling this report.

It is believed that the Enugu-based accomplice assisted the main radio pirate in London by placing not so large equipment on abandoned NITEL transmission polls and a few transmitters owned by other mobile telecom providers.

This is even as the Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Emeka Mba, in an exclusive chat with Daily Sun on the issue, said the satellite signals from the malicious station will be blocked from reaching Nigeria by the end of yesterday (Thursday).

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Information, Shade Yemi-Esan, had on Wednesday told State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari that NBC had successfully jammed the signals of station.

Mba, who declined comment on the arrest of the accomplice of the radio station which he said sent signals to Nigeria through a London-based content provider, however, noted that beyond jamming the signals, once it is discovered to have hacked into a Nigerian station, the commission was optimistic of completely cutting off its ability to broadcast in the country via satellite yesterday.

He denied the rumor that the commission was slow at clamping down on the station which he described as broadcasting nonsensical garbage. The NBC had to "catch the station in the act" before taking action.

He said: "When they were broadcasting on the internet it was not much an issue, until they started appropriating FM frequencies in various cities across the South East and it became for us an urgent national security matter. We had to trace them. They are using more sophisticated equipment and we had to upgrade our own equipment to track them. To be honest it was difficult dealing with them because they are on satellite and while we are able to neutralise the terrestrial frequencies on the FM band, satellite is very a different thing, and they are outside Nigeria where you have different protocols with how you deal with this issue. They also online and you know how difficult it is to deal with this kind of thing online.

"But then again they are as using what we call frequency agile transmitters through which they hop from one frequency to another. So once you block them in one frequency, they move to another. So what we have done is to upgrade our capacity to follow and block them where ever they are transmitting. To give you and instance, they were transmitting through 104.7 FM Enugu yesterday (Wednesday), they moved to 102.1 FM Enugu and we also jammed it. This is why it is more important for us to catch them than the process of jamming.

"I can assure everyone that these people will be caught and we will support the security agencies to ensure that they face the full wrath of the law. It is no longer a matter of running a pirate station. It is now a matter of subverting the state. There is a possibility of it becoming a matter of sedition as some of the content of the broadcast is declaring war on Nigeria. Our job at the NBC is to use our technical capacity to ensure that we are able to neutralise them wherever they crop up. I am confident that before the end of today we should be able to take them off satellite. This will deal a major blow to their ability to send signal to Nigeria from where they are based abroad.

The serene atmosphere at Obafemi Awolowo University OAU, Ile-Ife was on Tuesday night shattered as a lecturer in the department of Agricultural Economics of the institution, Dr. Deji Adejobi, was killed by suspected assassins at his residence located at The-Dawn area, near the Ife toll gate in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

According to Adejobi's gateman (names withheld), who recounted how the incident took place said the assailants trailed the deceased to his house at exactly 10:10 on Tuesday evening  and shot him twice after shooting into the air to scare the residents of the community.

Also, one of the children of the late lecturer, Oyin Adejobi, in an emotion laden voice narrated how her father was murdered in cold blood.

"As we finished our evening prayer at 10:05 pm, Dady drove into the compound. Then I overheard an argument between the gateman and some strange people. I quickly looked from the window and I saw another black car that entered our compound together with Daddy's car. Our gateman was querying the occupants of the other car but they hit him and ordered him to lie down.

"The men in the black car came out before daddy could alight from his car and one of them shot into the air. Two of them advanced to daddy's car while others came inside. Grandma started begging those that came inside to spare our lives . Suddenly, we heard gunshot twice from the outside.

"The assailants left at 10:20 and took daddy's car away. I overheard daddy begging them that they should not take him away. When they left, we thought they took him away and we started praying for the safety of daddy without knowing that he had been killed. When the police came, they saw his lifeless body in the flower", Oyin explained .

The younger brother of the deceased who is also the Public Relations Officer PPRO for Ogun State Police Command, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi described the death of his brother as very pathetic.

The Police Public Relation Officer for Osun State Police Command, Mrs Folashade Odoro while confirming the incident said the command has commenced investigation into the matter and assured that the police would fish out the killers

The Public Relation Officer of OAU, Mr Abiodun Olanrewaju also said the death of Dr Adejobi was very unfortunate, adding that the
management, staff and students of the university were very sad about the development.

Olanrewaju regretted that it was unfortunate that university lecturers have become the target of kidnappers, armed robbers and assassins. He warned that the trend is dangerous for education system in the country. -VANGUARD

UK Daily Mail reports
Foreign students are to be banned from working in Britain under a fresh crackdown on immigration ordered by Home Secretary Theresa May.
When courses finish they will have to leave the country before reapplying to return for a job. Ministers say the new rules, which will apply to all those from outside the European Union, will stop colleges being used as a 'back door to a British work visa'.
Official figures show that 121,000 non-EU students entered the UK in the 12 months to June last year, but only 51,000 left – a net influx of 70,000.
The government estimates that the number of foreign students coming to the UK will rise by more than 6 per cent a year up to 2020. Home Secretary Theresa May has taken action against 870 bogus colleges, banning them from taking foreign students.

But the Conservatives have vowed to go further, without the Lib Dems in power to force the rules to be watered down.

They want to stop student visas being used as an easy way to enter the UK before getting a job and claiming benefits.

Under the new rules, non-EU students will be denied the right to work while in the UK and will not be able to apply for a visa extension when their course finishes.
Students will have to leave the country before applying to return under a work visa.
The length of stay is also expected to be cut to two years when the plans are unveiled this week.

Immigration Minister James Brokenshire said it was 'part of our plan to control immigration for the benefit of Britain'.

'Immigration offenders want to sell illegal access to the UK jobs market and there are plenty of people willing to buy.

'Hard-working taxpayers who are helping to pay for publicly funded colleges expect them to be providing topclass education, not a back door to a British work visa.'
Business Secretary Sajid Javid signalled on Friday that the govermment would stop the education system being abused by immigrants.

He said: 'What we need to make sure – and we do have this – is that our immigration system allows those from abroad that want to come to Britain to study in our world-class universities, our fantastic colleges to come here,' he told the Today programme.

'But we've also got to have a system that doesn't allow any abuse when people are using the right to study as a way to achieve settlement in Britain.
'So we've got to break the link and make sure it's focused on people who want to study and then, once they've had their studies and completed that, then they leave.'
But universities have warned that any clampdown could damage the sector and business leaders are also wary of the move, warning it could rob Britain of vital skills.

Seamus Nevin, head of employment and skills at the Institute of Directors, said: 'The Business Secretary's proposals to eject foreign students after graduation are misguided and would damage the British education system, our economy and global influence.

'Britain already makes it difficult and artificially expensive for international students to enter and stay, and now these proposals would eject them ignominiously when their studies are finished.

'Restricting talented workers from staying on in the UK would damage business and lead to a loss of important skills.

'Shutting the door to highly-trained international graduates at a time when our economy needs them most would be hugely damaging for UK businesses.
'In the interests our education sector, our businesses, and our international standing, the Business Secretary should reconsider this proposal.'

Officers of the Abia state Police command have arrested a 36 year old commercial taxi driver, John Madu (pictured above) for allegedly raping a female passenger.

According to The Nation, the unidentified victim was returning from Lagos to Obehie community in Abia state where her parents reside in John's taxi when the incident happened. He reportedly dragged the lady out of his car in a lonely road and pounced on her.
Her pleas that she was a virgin fell on deaf ears as the suspect forced himself on her and left her on the road. Luck however ran out on him when the victim notified a team on police who were patrolling the area.
Speaking on his arrested, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ezekiel Udeviotu Onyeke said
"The girl whose name we can't give out to the public boarded car to Owerri, Imo State where she picked another vehicle to Aba, Abia State and on getting to Aba, it was already late. But being determined to go home and meet her parents who are staying around Obehie, she boarded a cab from Flyover (a popular bus stop in Aba) to Obehie. She was the only passenger inside the vehicle. The driver told the lady that he had ran out of fuel, but the lady told him not to stop his vehicle until they get to a place where they can sight people's house. While they were still driving, the driver asked the girl which church she attends. The lady told him and the driver told the lady that he is a member of the same church. That made the lady felt at home and while they were still driving, he asked the lady if she will marry him, but the girl politely told him that marriage are not contracted on the road. That if he is serious with his proposal, he should come to see her people with his people as custom demands. It was at that point that the driver stopped on the road and the lady having sensed danger, opened the door and took to her heels. She was swiftly pursued by the driver who caught up with her and then forced himself on the lady even when she told him that he was a virgin and had vowed that it will be her husband that will break her virginity. The man after raping her slept off and while he was sleeping, the lady for fear of being raped the second time, ran out of the car to hide a bush and when the police team Operation Safer Highway saw the car and was asking the driver why he parked there, the lady having noticed their presence told her story and the boy was arrested by the police team."he said.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a woman, Helen Okeke, who allegedly killed her neighbour, identified only as Rose, in the Ikota, Ajah area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Okeke slit Rose's throat after the duo reportedly had an argument over who poured urine on the latter's clothes that were spread on the entrance door to her room.

The incident occurred at about 5pm last Wednesday in the Ikota Housing Estate, Ikota Second Gate area.

Our correspondent gathered that Rose, who was reportedly preparing for her wedding, had returned from work in the afternoon, and noticed a foul smell on the clothes spread on her door.

It was learnt that the deceased went to the landlady, Alhaja Iyabo Hamzat, to report the matter. The landlady was said to have pacified her, offering to give her the money to buy some detergent to wash the clothes.

It was gathered that after some minutes, other neighbours, however, heard Rose's sudden cry for help in the corridor. The suspect was said to have been found holding the deceased by the neck, with a bloodstained kitchen knife in her hand.

Our correspondent gathered that Rose died before she could be rushed to a nearby hospital.

The matter was said to have been reported to the Ajah Police Division, Ajiwe, and Okeke was arrested.

When PUNCH Metro visited the apartment on Friday, Alhaja Hamzat said she had served a notice to Okeke, commonly known as Mama Chinedu, on several occasions to pack out of the house, adding that the suspect refused to leave.

She said, "At about 5pm that day, Rose came to my apartment. She said she came to report Iya Chinedu.

"She said when she returned from her workplace, she found her curtain, towel and other clothes drenched with urine. She said she suspected that it was Iya Chinedu who poured the substance on her clothes.

"I begged Rose and told her that I would give her money to buy detergent to wash the clothes. She had hardly returned to her room when we heard screams of 'help help!' We all rushed there and we saw Rose in a pool of blood with Iya Chinedu holding a bloodstained knife.

"With shock, we rushed Rose to a hospital, but she died on the way.

"Iya Chinedu moved into my house just last year. She moved in with her son. The son later left, saying he was fed up with his mother. I had served her quit notices on several occasions, but she refused to move out.

"I went to the police at Ikota to report her, but the policemen there said they would not meddle in landlord-tenants' affairs."

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told PUNCH Metro that Okeke had been moody before that day.

Another resident in the area, identified only as Blessing, said after Okeke had stabbed her neighbour, some angry youths beat her up.

She said, "Mama Chinedu did not show any remorse at all. Some boys became angry and beat her up.

"Everyone was shocked, and wanted to find out what offence was committed that made Okeke to stab the young lady."

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.

He added that the matter would be transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, for further investigation.

He said, "The police visited the scene and removed the corpse to a public morgue in Yaba.

"The suspect has also been arrested. She will be transferred to the SDCI after the police have concluded their preliminary investigations."

There have been rumours that the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency wants to question Davido over 'Fans Mi' video with US rapper Meek Mill which showed Davido handling substance suspected to be hard drugs. The rumours have been confirmed.

Speaking with Punch yesterday, the Director of Public Affairs of the NDLEA, Mitchell Ofoyeju, said that the anti-drug agency is conducting a full-scale investigation into the making of the video and an investigative panel might invite Davido for questioning if the need arose
"I am aware that a panel is working on it (the video). The panel was set up soon after the video was released few weeks ago. When our attention was drawn to it, we viewed it and we discovered that it was improper. There is no moral lesson in it and he was just advertising drug trafficking.
"In the video, he exchanged a brief case supposedly containing narcotics for dollars. He was displaying affluence in the video. If it (the plot) had climaxed in an arrest and possible detention, we would have congratulated him for partnering with us. But the way he portrayed drug trafficking in the video was a means to an end, which the end is a life of affluence which we disagree with." he said.
"We are looking at the issue holistically. We believe that there should be a body that was supposed to censor videos before they go out. Those are the things we want to investigate and verify. Was the video submitted for approval? If it was submitted, why was it approved, with such content?" he concluded.

Top Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has escaped from a maximum security prison for the second time, security officials announced yesterday. Guzman, who headed the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, was last seen in the area of the showers in the Altiplano prison outside of Mexico City

The National Security Commission said in a statement that Guzman went to the showers shortly before 9 p.m. and wasn't seen for a while. Upon checking his cell, authorities found that it was empty.

A search operation began immediately in the surrounding area and highways. Flights have also been suspended at Toluca airport near the penitentiary.

Guzman was captured in February 2014 after more than a decade on the run. He faces multiple federal drug trafficking indictments in the U.S. and was on the DEA's most-wanted list.

Guzman had been caught previously in Guatemala in 1993, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison in Mexico for murder and drug trafficking. He escaped from another maximum security prison, Puente Grande in western Jalisco state, in 2001 with the help of prison guards.

The Sinaloa Cartel empire stretches throughout North America and reaches as far away as Europe and Australia. The cartel has been heavily involved in the bloody drug war that has torn through parts of Mexico for the last several years.

Sinaloa is believed now to control most of the major crossing points for drugs at the U.S. border with Mexico.

This 14 year old girl named Chiawolam Comfort Umeh (pictured above) committed suicide on July 7th after she was gruesomely gang-raped by 3 men on June 28th at Iyienyi Village, near Okwoyi Community, in Isieke, Ibeku, in Umuahia North LGA of Abia State. Chiawolam was a virgin before she was defiled by the vile men. Read the full report after the cut.

Culled from Sun News online

Chiawolam, who was among students who sat for the Junior Secondary School education (JSS) examination recently from Isieke Model Community High School, was reported to have dashed into the bush at the back of the family house with her mother's head tie, climbed on top of a guava tree and hung herself two days after she was raped by the three beastly boys. The rape incident happened on Sunday, June 28, 2015, while she hung herself on Tuesday morning, July 7, 2015.

Chiawolam's father, Mr Umeh said that early in the morning that Tuesday, her mother called her to find out how she was raped and she complained that she was having pains all over her body. The mother told her to endure till they come back from the police station that morning, but unknown to them, the deceased had another plan.

"She took her jacket and what we later discovered was a scarf and left, warning that nobody should mention her name. We thought she was going to the toilet," the distraught father said.

The members of Umeh family, who are natives of Amaeke Abam in Ohafia LGA, have been residing in Inyienyi village, where they acquired land and built a house.

A family source disclosed that Comfort had told her mother earlier that she would not be able to stay alive to behold the faces of those who defiled her, but the mother did not understand what she meant.
It was her deafening cry while struggling between life and death on top of the tree that drew people's attention to the bush. They then rushed to the scene to discover that her tongue had already protruded out of her mouth showing that she had given up the ghost.

Comfort's mother, Mrs Ekenna Umeh, a prophetess who runs a prayer ministry in her home said that the deceased would have clocked 15 years in October this year.

She said that her daughter did not like having any affair with boys as she swore that she would keep her virginity for her husband. She was said to have told her mother that she would complete her studies and start working before considering marrying. The deceased mother alleged that one Ndubuisi had been disturbing her daughter since they moved to the area in 2013, and had in her presence threatened to deal with her if she refused his amorous overtures.
Her words: "In my presence, I had asked my daughter and she told me that relationship is not her prob¬lem now until she is through with her education.

She hardly collects gifts from boys nor accepts free rides when coming back from school."
Chiawolam was said to have gone to see her sister in a nearby village. On her way from the visit, the three boys allegedly abducted and took her into a nearby forest, where they have a cult house and shrine.
Explaining further, the mother told Sunday Sun "While this was going on, my daughter told me that she was still shouting, but nobody could come to her rescue. She said that immediately they got into the forest, near Inyienyi stream, one of the boys named Ndubuisi brought out a dagger and threatened to kill her if she refused to submit herself to them. Eventually, they over-pow¬ered her, tore off her skirt, blouse, pants, brassier and forcefully raped her in turns. She said that when they were doing all those things to her, she passed out, only to wake and see herself in the pool of her own blood.
It became difficult for her to stand up and walk out of the forest, as her head was turning and every area of her abdomen and private region was paining her. She said that she looked at herself to discover that blood filled the whole place like where a goat was slaughtered for sacrifice."

Mrs, Umeh said she never imagined that her daughter would take her life. She called on the police and all relevant authorities to give her justice and ensure that her daughter did not die in vain by making those who pushed her to suicide pay for their sins.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Abia State, Mr Ezekiel Udeviotu, who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate, stating that the police was doing all within its powers to arrest the culprits, who were said to have fled the community.

Media personality and Vlogger Ariyike Akinbobola did something most won't do. She repaired the bad road leading to her home after waiting endlessly for government to carry out repairs. She bought broken blocks and sand and poured it on the road - which is usually flooded after heavy downpour - to make it motorable. What the street looks like before (left) and what it looks like now (right). Well done to her.
