Commercial airline, Aero Contractors, has announced the suspension of its scheduled services beginning from Thursday, September 1, 2016.
A statement by the airline’s management said that the depreciation of the Naira within the last six months has made it impossible for the airline to achieve its operational targets, adding that the suspension was part of the strategic business realignment to reposition and return the airline back to profit making.
The company stated:
The impact of the external environment has been very harsh on our operational performance, hence management decision to suspend scheduled services operations indefinitely effective September 1, 2016, pending when the external opportunities and a robust sustainable and viable plan is in place for Aero Contractors to recommence its scheduled services.
The implication of the suspension of scheduled services operations extends to all staffs directly and indirectly involved in providing services as they are effectively to proceed on indefinite leave of absence during the period of non-services.
We are aware of the impact this will have on our staff and our highly esteemed customers, hence we have initiated moves to ensure that we are able to return back to operations within the shortest possible time, offering reliable, safe and secure operations, which the airline is known for.

As football fans salivate in anticipation of the upcoming Manchester derby, they may be robbed of a particularly tasty morsel as Sergio Aguero looks set to miss the tantalising clash. The striker has been slapped with a violent conduct charge by the FA after cameras caught him elbowing Winston Reid in Manchester City's 3-1 win over West Ham.

It means Aguero is facing a three-match ban which will keep him out of the first derby under Pep Guardiola at Old Trafford on September 10th.

The 28-year-old, who has scored six goals already this season, has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond to the charge.
Aguero will also be out for a Premier League clash against Bournemouth and an EFL Cup trip to Swansea City.

If the striker is found guilty and subsequently banned, City manager, Pep Guardiola will be left with Kelechi Iheanacho as his only recognised striker.

Nigeria's Economy has officially slid into recession. This is going by the new report from the National Bureau of Statistics on the Gross Domestic Product figures for the second quarter of 2016 released today. According to the report which was shared via the twitter handle of the Staistician General of the Federation, Yemi Kale, Nigeria's GDP growth rate dropped from -0.36 per cent in the first quarter to -2.06 per cent.

This makes it clear that Nigeria is indeed in recession. A recession is defined as a significant decline in activities across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The report adds that Nigeria's Capital Importation for the second quarter of the year dropped to $647.1m(lowest quarterly on record) from $710.9 m in the first quarter.

Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has issued license to 11 new International Money Transfer Operators (IMTOs). This was disclosed in a statement released by the apex bank's Acting Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor yesterday August 30th. The new entrants are joining Western Union, MoneyGram and Ria, which had been cleared by the CBN.

The new operators are Trans-Fast Remittance LLC; WorldRemit Limited, UAE Exchange Centre LLC; Wari Limited, Homesend S.C.R.L, Small World Financial Services Group Limited and Weblink International Limited. Others are Cash Pot Limited, DT&T Corporation Limited, Fiem Group LLC DBA Ping Express and CP Express Limited. According to the CBN, the new entrants were licensed as part of efforts to liberalise the Foreign Exchange Market, ensure liquidity and make foreign exchange more readily available to low end users.

Part of the statement reads

“The CBN wishes to state, unequivocally, that it has not foreclosed the licensing of interested players in the IMTO space in Nigeria. Therefore, interested applicants are required to forward their requests for licensing to the Director, Trade and Exchange Department of the CBN, in line with the CBN Guidelines on International Money Transfer Services in Nigeria (2014), which among other things, specifies the minimum technical and business requirements for various participants in the international money transfer services industry in Nigeria. The CBN remains committed to providing an enabling environment for international money transfer services in Nigeria. It is, however, important to emphasise that a prospective player shall first obtain the requisite licence to operate in Nigeria as an IMTO. The CBN wishes to advise Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to beware of the unwholesome activities of some unlicensed IMTOs in Nigeria. This warning has become necessary because of the activities of some unregistered IMTOs, whose modes of operation are detrimental to the Nigerian economy".

The Ogun State Police Command and the Zone 2 Police Command have released separate statements on the issue of Joe Chinakwe, 40, the trader who is being prosecuted after he named his dog “Buhari”, inscribed the name on the dog, and paraded the dog on the streets in the Sango-Otta area of Ogun State.
In the statement, it was noted that the case has no connection with President Muhammadu Buhari, and that Chinakwe “was actually attacked by the people around”.
However, nothing was said concerning the people that “actually attacked” the suspect.
Read the statement from the office of the Zone 2 Police Command:
The attention of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, AIG Abdulmajid Ali, has been drawn to series of uncomplimentary comments and publications in respect of the case of a man, Joe Chinakwe, who was arrested and charged to court by the Ogun State Police Command for naming his dog ‘Buhari’ and wishes to state categorically that the matter was grossly misconstrued.
The Zonal Command wishes to clarify and set the records straight that the case, as it was erroneously perceived, has nothing to do with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, but with one Alhaji Buhari, the biological father of the complainant, Halilu Umar, all of Ketere Area, Sango Ota in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Also, it’s fundamental to state that the man was not charged to court for christening his dog Buhari, but for the behaviours of the suspect and circumstances surrounding the matter when Mr. Joe, who had been having conflicts with his neighbour, (complainant) named his dog Buhari, his neighbour’s father’s name, inscribed Buhari on both sides of the said dog, and started parading the dog with swagger amongst his neighbours and/ traders who are mostly northerners.
The said Joe was actually attacked by the people around for his action before he was rescued by the police. The timely intervention of the police prevented a crisis or inter-tribal crisis in the area.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Lagos, AIG Absulmajid Ali, appeals to the general public to understand the action of the police in the matter, which is in consonance with the primary duties of the Nigeria Police Force as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and accept it as a professional way of preventing total breakdown of law and order,” the statement
In it’s own statement by its spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Ogun state Police Command also said the president had no connection with the matter.
“The attention of Ogun State Police Command has been drawn to a story in some section of the media regarding the case of Joachim Iroko who named his dog Buhari and was subsequently arrested and charged to court.
The fact of the case is that one Alhaji Halilu Umar ‘m’ of Ketere area went to Sango Police stationto report his neighbour whom he claimed provoked him by inscribing his father’s name ‘Buhari’ on both sides of his dog knowing fully well that it was his father’s name.
The suspect was invited and he did not deny the allegation. All efforts to resolve the matter amicably between the two parties proved futile and it was about to degenerate to a serious crisis within the area, hence, the command took a proactive step by charging the case to court in order to avert unnecessary blood shedding.
The command wants to make it clear to members of the public that the case has nothing to do with the President as some media are painting it to be. It is a clear case between the complainant and the suspect whose action was seen as one that is likely to cause breach of peace.
It is the duty of the police to protect life and property, and also guard it against anything that could lead to the breakdown of law and order which is exactly what we did in this case,” the statement read.

A 27-year-old man, Chigozie Egegonye, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly planning the kidnap of his sister, identified only as Franca.
Franca and her four children had been declared missing since April 2016, when they suddenly disappeared from their home on Mayowa Street, Ago-Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Egegonye told his childhood friend, Michael Oluchukwu, that despite the wealth of his sister, she was stingy.
Our correspondent learnt that Oluchukwu, a cobbler, sent a text message to the victim, giving her an ultimatum of 12 hours to pay N300,000 or risk being kidnapped and killed.
It was learnt that Franca called the suspect and pleaded for her life, saying she could only afford N50,000.
Oluchukwu reportedly agreed and sent her his account details.
However, it was learnt that the victim had yet to send the money when she and her four children went missing.
Our correspondent gathered that the victim’s husband petitioned the State Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, after which detectives launched a manhunt for the suspects.
A police source said investigations revealed that Egegonye was behind the plot.
He said, “Chigozie (Egegonye) and Michael (Oluchukwu) are childhood friends. After losing contact, they reunited in Jakande Estate, Isolo, where Michael had his workshop.
“On April 13, 2016, Chigozie went to Michael’s shop and told him he had a sister who was so stingy that each time he demanded money from her, she wouldn’t give him. He asked him to send a threat message to her on the phone.
“They told the woman how she normally took her children to school every day. They said she should pay N300,000 within 12 hours or risk  being eliminated together with her four children.”
The source told PUNCH Metro that Franca, who immediately became jittery, called back the phone number and said she couldn’t raise the sum within the time frame, but could afford N50,000.
The suspect was said to have sent a First Bank account number 3034268561 with the name Chigozie Egegonye.
Another source said Franca and the children went missing on that same day when the money had yet to be paid.
He explained that Franca’s husband got home only to discover that their apartment had been emptied.
He said, “The man got home on that day and discovered that his wife and the children were missing, including his two cars. He found the house scattered and all the luggage of the wife and children taken away.
“The man said he received a text message from his wife detailing the death threat she received. He said he called his in-laws to tell them he had not seen his wife and the children and they told him to go and find her. All of them thought he masterminded the kidnap of his wife and children.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that Franca’s husband wrote a petition to the police afterwards, which led to the arrest of Egegonye and Oluchukwu.
A source said the police used the account number and phone number of Oluchukwu to track him down.
He later led operatives to Oluchukwu’s house where he was also arrested.
However, Oluchukwu denied kidnapping his sister, saying she fled the house due to the disagreement she had been with her husband.
He said, “My sister and her husband are rich, but they always quarrel in the house. She had wanted to quit the marriage, but I begged her. My sister fears a lot.  I and my friend sent a threat message to her line and she used that opportunity to run away from the house. I blame myself for everything that happened. I am now repentant. I wasn’t praying at home before I came here. Now, I lead the devotion in the cell.”
Egegonye, on his part, said greed and ignorance pushed him into the act, saying he had learnt his lesson.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said she would call back our correspondent, but she had yet to do so as of press time.

A man named Sukurat Idowu, 45, has been arrested by the Lagos state police for brutalizing his 5 year old daughter at their home in Ikotun.

The man, who works as a road side mechanic assaulted the little girl named Monsurat by beating her with hot iron and causing serious body injury...

The suspect is currently being held by the command for the offence of child abuse. He was arrested after a concerned neighbour who witnessed the battery reported the case at Ikotun division.

The neighbour narrated to the police how the suspect sent the victim to go and dispose of the content of a potty in the latrine and the child fell into the gutter, an occurrence which infuriated the father and made him to beat her mercilessly with a hot iron.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and the victim rescued. She is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital while the suspect is undergoing interrogation with the gender unit of the command.
Effort is on to trace the mother of the victim who has been separated from the father since she was two years.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, arrested one Iwuchukwu Martin Uche for obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of USD145, 000. Uche, who claimed to be a military officer working for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO in Kabul, Afghanistan allegedly, collected the money from his victim, H. Uyen, a Vietnamese woman, after promising to marry her.
The suspect, who also claimed to be a property agent operating in Nigeria and Ghana, allegedly told the victim that he needed the money to procure some documents for the planned wedding. The money was allegedly wired to the suspect’s Diamond Bank account number.

22-year-old Oweniwe Chukwudi (pictured) who has been arrested in connection with the murder of his girlfriend, Adeyeye Nifemi, says he killed her for the fun of it and not for rituals as being speculated.

Chukwudi, who is a National Diploma student of the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, denied removing body parts of the deceased after he murdered her.

“I did not remove any part of her body; I only killed her for the fun of it. I made love with her in the bush before killing her. I am not a cultist. It was when I killed her that I realised I made a big mistake and I wept bitterly”,he said when interrogated
Ondo state commissioner of Police, Hilda Harrison, who paraded the suspect, said investigations carried out so far shows that Chukwudi whose parents are cassava farmers in Ogbese area of the state, had tricked his girlfriend to Ayede Ogbese, about 10 to 15 kilometres away from their campus where he stabbed her. He left her in the bush, thinking she was dead but on his return the next day to remove some of her body parts, he saw that she was still alive.

While pretending to help her, the suspect reportedly took her to a camp close to a filling station in Ilu Abo, where he strangled her again. When she didn’t die, he reportedly smashed her head with stones until she died.

Acting on available intelligence, he was arrested and during interrogation, confessed to committing the crime. He would be charged to court after investigations is concluded.

UEFA has confirmed that Europe's top four leagues are to be guaranteed four places in the Champions League group stage from 2018/19.
Under the present system, the top three leagues - currently Spain, Germany and England - have three places each, while their fourth-placed teams must contest a play-off over two legs for a place in the group stage.
The fourth ranked league, currently Italy, have only two guaranteed places plus one in the play-off round.
The change was announced after Europe's top football officials met to discuss changes to the competition in Monaco on Thursday.
It is understood representatives from UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA) discussed a variety of options to ward off the threat of a breakaway Super League.
Many clubs have expressed concerns - primarily through the ECA - about the qualifying criteria and format of UEFA club competitions.

Real Madrid and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo has lifted the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award for a second time.

Cristiano Ronaldo's 2016 has been phenomenal. The soccer superstar won two trophies, one with his club and one with country, and they were the biggest. In May, he took home the Champions League crown with Real Madrid before winning Euro 2016 with Portugal this summer. Could it get any better? It just did.

Ronaldo, voted by 55 European sports journalists, won the Best Player in Europe award for 2015-16 on Thursday during the Champions League group stage draw in Monaco, defeating club teammate Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid's Antoine Griezmann.

Ronaldo had 35 league goals and 16 Champions League goals last campaign, adding three at Euro 2016. He was the clear-cut favorite entering the day. Bale had 19 goals and 10 assists for Real Madrid, and Griezmann had 22 league goals for Atletico Madrid, seven in the Champions League and six goals at Euro 2016. Bale did get the Champions League trophy as well. Ronaldo and his club and country beat Griezmann in both the UCL final and the Euro final this summer.

This is the second time Ronaldo was won the award, winning it for the first time in 2013-14. Lionel Messi of Barcelona won it last year but was not a finalist this year.

Speaking after receiving the award,Ronaldo said...

"It's a great honour. My team-mates are the key – they are the key every year. I work hard myself but without their help this would not be possible. Thanks to my team-mates from Real Madrid and Portugal. [Winning EURO] was different because I've won the Champions League three times now. To win something with Portugal was the highlight of my career."

In a recent statement, former president Jonathan said he handed over the best Nigerian government, and the largest economy in Africa to president Buhari.

“I took over a Nigeria that was the second largest economy in Africa with a GDP of $270.5 billion in 2009, I handed over a Nigeria that had grown to become the largest economy in Africa and the 24th largest economy in the World, with a GDP of $574 billion.

I inherited a Nigeria in which the trains were not working, and handed over a Nigeria in which citizens can safely travel by trains again.

I inherited a Nigeria that was a net importer of cement, and handed over a Nigeria that is a net exporter of cement.

In 2009, the richest Nigerian was the 5th richest man in Africa, but I handed over a Nigeria that produced the richest man in Africa.

The former President stated that democracy will continue to grow in the African continent if leaders value the process of elections more than the product of the process.

Even in the 2015 general elections in my country, Nigeria, there was potential for major crisis if I was not a President duly elected by the will of the people.

The campaigns leading to the elections almost polarized the country into Christian vs Muslims and North vs South divide. Most World leaders were worried that our elections will result into major crisis.

Some pundits even from here in the United States said that those elections would spell the end of Nigeria and that we would cease to exist as a nation because of the polls.

That is where the leadership question comes into play. As a leader that was duly elected by the people, I considered the people’s interest first.

How do I manage my people to avoid killings and destruction of properties?

With the interest of the people propelling all the decisions I took, we were able to sail through.

Indeed, we sail through because I refused to interfere with the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, having appointed a man I had never met in my life to run it.
My philosophy was simple. For elections to be credible, I as a leader, must value the process more than the product of the process. And the citizens must have confidence in the electoral body”.

The Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has disclosed that the federal government has so far saved the sum of N1.4 trillion for not paying oil subsidy.

He also assured Nigerians that very soon, the foreign exchange market would stabilise going by some radical policies already introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The vice president who spoke in Kano yesterday during the third day of the 15th Joint Planning Board and National Council on Development meeting, urged Nigerians to restore confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, insisting that soonest, the current economic problems would become a thing of the past.

“With the deregulation of the downstream petroleum sector, there has been a significant increase in the availability of petrol throughout the country for the savings of N1.4 trillion on subsidy payments alone,” he said.

“Also, a more flexible exchange rate regime, we will have to decrease the pressure on the external reserve. In the short run of course, there should be consequences for inflation. We expect that with greater priority we have seen in the implementation of the policy by the CBN, the foreign exchange market will stabilise and confidence will be restored.

“The adoption of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in September 2015 was intended to place our world on the part of sustainable development by the year 2030. The 17 SDGs, which combined economic, social and environmental objectives, are intended to be universal, unlike the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) which were made solely for developing countries.”

“The universal application of the SDGs and their 169 targets show that they are a menu of options, this allows the implementation to take count of different national realities, capacities, policies and priorities.

“In the Nigerian context, some of the issues that must engage our minds will lead to economic diversification, sustained economic growth, eradication of extreme poverty, promoting social inclusion, creating jobs, sparring environmental degradation, including climate change.

“The empirical evidence from across the globe has shown that national strategic planning is very critical for attaining structural transformation and sustainable development. The countries of East Asia have proved this convincingly, even though their development was private-sector driven.

“Strategic plans largely provide direction, coherence and coordination and they are a veritable framework for guiding the activities of all stakeholders towards achieving a common goal, planning specifics such as goals, target and indicators which embodies the SDGs, also enables tracking, monitoring and evaluation.

“The successful implementation of strategic plans and attainment of the SDGs entails partnership, as encapsulated in the 17 objectives which is about the need to create labour partnership in order to attain sustainable development.

“Accordingly, just as the federal government seeks international partnership at the global level with regards to rules and resources, we also seek partnership at the national level. Such domestic partnerships entails working closely with the states which is one of the main reasons for the establishment of the NCPP.

“Other essential partnerships are also built with other sectors of society, especially, the private sector, which is the indisputable engine for growth in successful economies.

“Let me speak briefly about some of the things that the Buhari administration is doing with regard to strengthening short and medium term planning. We have strengthened the link between budgeting and strategic planning by merging the National Planning Commission with the Budget office of the federation.

“We have adopted zero base budgeting, which compels the interrogation of public expenditure at micro levels and allows effective deployment of limited financial resources to areas and sectors with the greatest need.

“We have used the short term strategic implementation plan to guide the 2016 budget; and just yesterday (Wednesday), the Federal Executive Council approved the medium plan expenditure framework and the fiscal strategy paper which are fully consistent with the SDGs and the African unions agenda 2063. These are the priorities of the federal government in the areas of tackling insecurity, combating corruption and growing the economy which would undoubtedly find expression in any medium term plan.

“The same is true for the policy interventions in the strategic implementation plan, notably, with regard to the policy, security and governance, diversification of the economy, power, rail and roads, oil and gas performance, ease of doing business, and social investment. The commitment of the Buhari administration to promote broader micro economic and structural reform; and this is made in our push to mitigate supply-side constraint.”

In his remarks, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, urged the states to complement the federal government’s effort in the area of agriculture and solid minerals development.
He said this was necessary in view of the fact that the country is endowed with arable land for massive production of food.

“The states may wish to target some selected crops for massive production of such commodities.
“They can boost production through the formation of farmers cooperatives for easy access to loan facilities,” he said.

He said the state could also undertake infrastructural development such as roads to ease evacuation of farm produce.

“This will promote economic growth through the creation of job opportunities for the teeming number of unemployed youths in the country,” he said.
He added that the federal government is committed to restructuring of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA) to enable it land a single digit interest rate.

Also speaking, the Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by his Deputy, Professor Hafiz Abubakar, said the state government would collaborate with all the relevant stakeholders for the implementation of the recommendations of the meetings.

HE Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi, Wednesday, urged the Federal Government to emulate Lagos State that had shown how the economy can develop without relying on a commodity to avoid the pitfalls of last administration.

The Emir, who spoke during a lecture he delivered at the second day of the 15th Joint Planning Board, JPB, and National Council on Development Planning organised by the Ministry of Budget and National Planning in collaboration with Kano State government, said the All Progressives Congress, APC-led administration needs to free itself from voodoo economists at the corridor of power.

He noted that his relief lies on Lagos that had demonstrated a positive role in the way forward for others to emulate.
He said: “As it stands today, Lagos’ role on the economic future of Nigeria is critical than what people think of the Niger Delta region.

“We are spending 30 to 40 percent of every Naira we earn servicing debt.
“The new borrowings were simply recycled into much higher recurrent expenditure. The GDP was growing largely due to consumers items.”

He said Federal Government can learn from Lagos policies formulation that boost business and attract investors, adding that the Lagos example can bail the country out of its economic woes.
He described as unwholesome a situation where somebody pull through a connection and rake in billions of naira without commiserate effort.

He said: “With my background in the banking sector, and now a royal father, I can sit in my garden and make billions through forex market without sweat.
“This is how most of those you called billionaires made their money.”

The Niger State Police Command has started investigations into the killing of the owner of Deploo Hotel and Suites, Mr. Lucky Okonkwo, who was murdered in his hotel in Suleja, Niger State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that 59-year-old Lucky was stabbed to death on Friday by a three-man gang, suspected to be workers at the hotel, shortly after he returned from a trip to Kaduna.

He was said to be at the hotel for the purpose of supervision.

It was learnt that after killing the victim, the suspects took away the Closed Circuit Television decoder of the hotel, the victim’s phones and fled in his Peugeot 406 saloon car.

They also took away a file containing certain information about the hotel.

The security men at the hotel, who were the prime suspects, were reported to have fled immediately the incident happened and had since been unreachable on their telephone lines.

They were identified as Frank Anavukko, Victor Anerah and Emmanuel Adeh.

Our correspondent was told that the incident was discovered on Saturday morning by a housekeeper who saw a pool of blood streaming out from the victim’s office.

The matter was reported at the Madalla Police Division and some of the hotel workers were arrested.

Lucky, an indigene of Delta State, was said to be the immediate past Vice-President of the Nigerian Association of Technology Engineering, North-West zone.

The victim’s first son, Paul, told PUNCH Metro that his father was killed around 7pm.

He explained that workers at the hotel claimed not to have known when his father was murdered.

He said, “He just returned from a trip and around 7pm of that day, he went to his office. When his workers didn’t see him and they discovered he was not reachable on his telephone lines, they called my mum the following day.

“She rushed down to the hotel and met him in a pool of blood. The workers claimed they didn’t know when it happened. They said they only saw three people going into his office and the same set of people driving out in his car. They said they also saw those people with the CCTV decoder and when they queried them, they said, ‘Oga asked us to go and repair it’.

“Aside from the CCTV and the car, those men also left with his money and other valuables. We don’t really know the motivation for the murder.”

Paul said the family reported the case to the police at the Madalla division, adding that some of the workers on duty at the time had been arrested.

He urged the police to speed up investigations and bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

A source told PUNCH Metro that the father of five struggled with his assailants before he was overpowered and killed.

He said, “The man was a retired PHCN worker. He was killed on Friday night. On Saturday morning, a man cleaning the hotel saw a pool of blood coming out of his office and raised the alarm. At the scene, there was a knife with which he was killed. There were also signs of struggle as the office table was broken. He had a deep knife cut in his palm, probably while he was holding the knife from piercing into him. They drove away his grey colour Peugeot 406 saloon car, with number plate KUJ-424 BB. They also made away with a file containing some information about the hotel.”

It was gathered that the case had already been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Minna.

A source said the fleeing hotel guards were the prime suspects.

He said, “One of them is already in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. How can something happen on Friday and in less than 24 hours, you have already disappeared to Port Harcourt if not that you are culpable?”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, Elkana Bala, said the police were closing in on the suspects, adding that information available to the police showed Lucky was killed by his workers.

He said, “He was suspected to have been murdered by his workers; he was not killed by outsiders. After the incident, those male workers ran away with his Peugeot 406. We are trailing them. The SCIID, Homicide section, has commenced full investigations into the matter.”

Last week, the Nice administration, issued an order banning swimwear “burkinis” with religious connotations, citing security concerns.
Several other cities on France’s Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts have banned burkinis this summer following heightened tensions in France preceded by series of attacks by the Islamist State.
UK Mirror reported that French Police officers were seen enforcing the “burkini ban” at the promenade des anglais beach in Nice.
The officers forced a woman to remove her Muslim dress as she sunbathed on a beach, and fined her $42 for flouting the order.
The woman, Siam, a mother of two, whose family members have been French citizens for at least three generations, said: “I wasn’t even planning to swim, just to dip my feet”.
At a court in Nice on Monday, judges upheld the “burkini ban” in the resort of Villeneuve-Loubet, ruling that the female swimwear was liable to cause offence and to provoke people to violence.
Judges ruled that the clothing could be viewed as a “provocation exacerbating tensions” within France, which is currently under a State of Emergency following ISIS’ attacks, adding that the ruling was “necessary, appropriate and proportionate”.
While many see the ban as discriminatory, others argue that the swimwear, resembling a full-body wetsuit with a hood, oppresses women and violates France’s secular principles.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a brother to Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State over alleged N2.4billion contract scam.

Sources at the anti-graft agency disclosed that Francis Ayade was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the scam.

Francis Ayade, MD of Leophina Nigeria Ltd and Hally Brown International Limited, was fingered in alleged shady deals involving diversion of public funds into his companies’ accounts.

“Specifically, four different allocations from the Federation Accounts were alleged to have been diverted into Hally Brown International Limited’s account owned by him,” an official told PT.

Investigations by EFCC operatives showed that Hally Brown International Limited was awarded a road construction contract to the tune of N2.4billion in 2011.

To finance the contract, Mr. Ayade allegedly took a loan of N350,000,000 (Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) from First Bank Plc, on behalf of Cross Rivers Rural Access and Mobility Project.

The loan was, however, unused for the contract, but transferred into the Mobility Project.

He has also been implicated in alleged suspicious transactions involving Obudu Micro Finance Bank, among other allegations.

He has been offered administrative bail but still in EFCC until he fulfills the bail conditions.

The Popular tricycle known as ”Keke napep” is being upgraded by manufacturers.

Passengers can now enjoy the luxury of air conditioners while commuting from place to place.
The new ”Keke Napep” comes with bigger doors and are quite bigger than what we are used to.
We wonder if they would charge the same fares as the old ones.
We also hope that they do not overload it with passengers like they do with the former. At least passengers can get a breath of fresh air.

Nollywood actress, Bukky Wright, shared series of photos from an event she attended over the weekend, the premiere of a TV series, “Eko: Iwure Olofin” – she shared one with her son, who is a rapper, which had him rocking a nose ring.
Some fans found the rapper’s style rather appalling and blamed it on the fact that he lacks good home training from his mother, see their reactions below:
