The Ogun Police Command said it had arrested one Eniola Adenuga, a Mobile Money Agent, who allegedly raped a co-worker, Faith Jude, to death around the Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, Ogun.

Edward Ajogun, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operation, paraded the suspect at the command’s headquarters at Eleweran in Abeokuta on Wednesday. Ajogun noted that the suspect had on Sept. 19 reported at Lafenwa police division that he came to his place of work only to discover the lifeless body of the victim (Faith Jude) in front of his office covered with a canopy.

He said that upon his report, the detectives from the Lafenwa division moved to the scene where the picture of the corpse was taken. The deputy commissioner of police said that it was discovered that there were marks of violence on the deceased body which raised the suspicion that she was murdered.

“Based on the recovery, the complainant was professionally interrogated, and it was discovered that he was the person that killed the victim. He confessed to the crime and stated that the deceased, a co-worker came to the shop to collect money for their boss.

“He took advantage of the heavy downpour on that day to grab the deceased, gagged her mouth with a piece of cloth while he raped her. Having had his way with the girl, he discovered that she had given up the ghost due to the suffocation, “he said.

Ajogun said that the case was undergoing investigation at the homicide section of the command’s Criminal Investigation Department.  The suspects (Eniola Adenuga) confirmed to committing the offence. He noted that the deceased just joined the company, saying that he had been having advances towards her but she had refused to accept his offer.

“I raped her in the shop and she died in the process. She was also having her menstruation at that period. I kept her corpse in the store. In the early hours of the third day of the incident, I placed her corpse in front of the shop and went to report at Lafenwa police station that I found a corpse in front of our shop. I had to confess during the investigation that I covered her mouth with her underwear while I raped her to death". Adenuga pleaded for mercy, adding that he never meant to kill her.

The Lagos State police command recently paraded a couple; one Tunde Ogunseye and his girlfriend Funmilayo Oyelaja, for allegedly hacking into the Federal Government’s National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, account and stealing over N38 million.

The lovers, Funmilayo Oyelaja, 38, and Tunde Ogunseye, 42, fled to Ghana after the crime, but were arrested after Ogunseye returned home for the burial of his mother. Oyelaja who worked in the company for 10 years, said she was moved to accounts unit in 2014 and that it was from that time she got involved in the fraud.

She claimed she diverted more money but personally received N38million which she transferred to her account, those of her son and sisters instead of the real hospitals.

According to her: “My bosses knew about it. It is what they do there. The company steals money from NHIS and my boss is aware of it. We are supposed to pay hospitals and return those of hospitals we cannot trace or identify.

But instead of refunding them, Clearline we move them to another account to make it look like the money has been paid.

I was on leave when someone called my husband that we should leave the country immediately because the company was aware we took money. They wanted us to run away so that we would not mention the names of others involved.

The company said I stole N60m but I only took N38million and the company owed more than N60million. I started to work with account in 2014. I used my share of the money to buy a house and other properties which the company has seized.

They also took the remaining money. They have taken everything. The company is accusing only me but I am not the only one involved. I have been in Ghana since 2017. My lover was the one who helped us to flee the country. I had to come back to surrender when they arrested him,” she said.

Ogunseye confirmed it was one of his lover’s bosses who called and told him to take her out of the country immediately. He said they already had valid visas before the lid was blown, adding that his offence was assisting his woman to flee the country.

There was pandemonium at River Bank Hotel in Ijora-Badia area of Lagos State as a 60-year-old man, Raji Adio, died while having sex with his lover who fled the facility after making the discovery.

The woman disappeared from the hotel premises before the cleaner, John Chuks could alert his co-workers after he saw her running. The hotel manager who left the premises to attend a morning devotion at the Revelation Church opposite the hotel was quickly alerted before the incident was reported to the police.

The manager stated, “Both Adio and the woman were regular customers, so on the day of the incident, they both came around 8am to book a room for short-time rest. Immediately payment was made, I issued a receipt to Adio and gave him the key to one of the rooms. Afterwards, I left the reception to attend a morning devotion at a church opposite the hotel. Almost all members of staff of the hotel attend the devotion before business will commence for the day.

“As the devotion was going on, Chuks suddenly rushed to inform us that he suspected that something strange had happened because of the way a woman rushed out from one of the rooms and ran out of the hotel. We quickly chased after her, but it was too late.

“If someone was at the reception, the woman wouldn’t have escaped, because the receptionist would have asked for Adio when the woman was leaving. But the cleaner, who was fortunate to have seen her while running away, came to call us instead of chasing after her to prevent her escape.

“When we went back to the room to find out what had happened, we saw Adio lying naked on the bed and on close examination, we realised that he was dead. We also found the tissue paper that both of them used during their romp on the floor, while the man’s clothes were on the table. I suspect that the woman quickly dressed up and rushed out of the room after Adio died.”

Chuks said the incident was reported at the Ijora-Badia Police Division and detectives were sent to investigate the matter as all effort to uncover the woman's identity and whereabout was unsuccessful.

“I was coming downstairs from one of the rooms and wanted to go and meet my colleagues at the church. But on my way downstairs, I saw the woman running out of one of the rooms on the second floor; so, I rushed to the church to alert my colleagues and we started searching for the woman but did not find her.

“I don’t know if it was a tricycle that she boarded or a motorcycle, but I searched for her everywhere but did not find her. The woman is slim and tall, but no one could pinpoint her whereabouts. So, when I got back, I was told that Ekezie had gone to report to the police and police personnel later visited the hotel to investigate the matter" he said.

Ekezie who reported the incident to the police was reportedly detained but released on condition of visiting the police station daily as part of the investigation. Punch reported that the Lagos police spokesperson, Bala Elkana, said a manhunt had been launched for the woman, adding that investigation was ongoing to determine if Adio died while having sex or if something else was responsible for his death.

“We started by deploying our homicide detectives in the crime scene; they cordoned off the place to see if there was anything that could aid the investigation, because we are not sure if it is murder or not.

“So, we can’t conclude from the onset and that is why we have commenced investigation into the matter and launched a manhunt for the woman. We are leaving no stone unturned to arrive at the truth about what actually happened, because we want to ascertain if it was a death caused by him having sex or whether something else was responsible for his death; so, we are still investigating" he said.

‎The Federal Government on Monday said it has commenced investigations into the activities of Truecaller App over alleged violation of the privacy rights of Nigerians.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the National Information Technology Development Agency.

Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, said members of the public are being informed of the investigation, in line with section 6(f) of the NITDA Act, which empowered the agency to render advisory services on all information technology matters.

The statement further explained that initial findings revealed that Truecaller’s privacy policy was not in compliance with global laws on data protection, and the Nigerian Data Protection Regulation, in particular.

Findings also revealed that over seven million Nigerians are using the app, a development which NITDA said made it imperative to ‘enlighten the public’ and ‘guide those affected’.

NITDA further disclosed that Truecaller’s privacy policy consists of two sets – one for those in the European Economic Area and the other for those outside it, with Nigeria in the second category.

According to the agency, there are ‘marked’ differences between the two privacy policies.

The agency added that Nigerian users of the Truecaller App are contracted with Truecaller India.

The statement noted that Truecaller’s operations violated Article 2.1 (b) of the NDPR which required ‎data collection and processing to be accurate, and Article 1.3 (iii), which stipulated that consent must be obtained before collation of personal information.

“By supplementing the personal information of Nigerians without specific consent and accuracy, they are susceptible to a serious invasion of their privacy.

“This has encouraged unscrupulous persons to continue using Nigerian identities to perpetrate fraud,” the statement said.

NITDA added that contrary to the expectation of most users, Truecaller service collects far more information than it needs to provide its primary service.

The agency assured that it would continue to monitor the activities of service providers to ensure that the privacy rights of Nigerians are not violated.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the release the convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, from the custody of the Department of State Service immediately.

The judge said the activist should be released to his lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who is to produce him for arraignment whenever he is required.

The judge, however, said since charges had already been filed against the activist, he must deposit his passport and other travel documents to guarantee his availability for trial.

The judge had earlier stood down the case after hearing arguments from legal teams of Sowore and the DSS.

But Falana said, “Filing of charges cannot metamorphose into a detention order.

“A citizen cannot detain a citizen in anticipation of arraignment.”

Earlier, Agbadua withdrew the DSS’ application asking for the extension of the period of the detention of Sowore for further 20 days.

Agbadua’s request for the withdrawal of the said application was based on the fact that charges had been filed against the activist.

Falana also withdrew Sowore’s application for bail on the grounds that the application had become academic since the order of detention had expired.

On the grounds of the expiration of the detention order and the withdrawal of the DSS’ request for further detention of Sowore, Falana urged the court to order his client’s release.

The judge in his ruling agreed with Falana by ordering the immediate release of Sowore from custody.

An apprentice at a tailoring shop in Lagos, Adenike Fatai, committed suicide just three months after her boyfriend identified as Bayo Atanda did same.

The 25-year-old indigene of Kwara State who lived with her mother at Igbekele Street, Iyana Cele bus stop, Shibiri area of Lagos State has reportedly been battling depression since her boyfriend died and she took a poisonous substance suspected to be 'sniper'.

Though she left no suicide note, a quick check on her Facebook page revealed that she engaged in posts which centered on death and depression. It was further learnt that her trauma was heightened by her late boyfriend family and friends' allegation of causing his death.

Tawa, Adenike's mother who confirmed her death told Punch that she met her dead after she returned home from an evening prayer.

She said, “That day, she finished cooking around 7pm and ate. She was outside after eating while I went to the mosque. Around 8pm, she came to the mosque to collect the key to our apartment and I told her to check the shop.

“On getting home some minutes after, I saw her lying on the floor with a bottle of sniper beside her. I called for help but it was late.

“She was learning tailoring in her sister’s place in Ikorodu. All of a sudden, her boss sent her away. She told me she had got another place to learn the vocation in Orile and that she would be living with a friend. I asked her to come and learn it at my place but she refused.

“Whenever I asked to see the friend, she would say she was not around. It was when I threatened to disown her that she told me she was living with her boyfriend. I tried to convince her that what she did was wrong, but she said the man’s (Bayo’s) house was close to where she was learning tailoring. I met with the man and he said he really wanted to marry her. He looked very gentle. We were planning the introduction when he died.

“On a Sunday around 11pm, my daughter called me and started crying on the phone. She said Bayo drank sniper. They took him to the Lagos Island General Hospital, but he died the following morning. That time, she said she would follow him and I tried to caution her.”

Tawa admitted that Adenike got depressed after her boyfriend's death and even relocated to Ikorodu area of Lagos state. She however said she (Adenike) returned after her condition improved.

“I never thought she was thinking of suicide because she looked happy. Some clerics warned us that death was hovering around her and I prayed over it.

“I learnt she called somebody that evening and told the person that she wanted to go and meet Bayo and that she would drink sniper. I don’t know the kind of love she had for him.

“There was a day a friend of Bayo called her and accused her of killing him. I told her to ignore them. The mistake I made was that I should have changed her SIM card,” she added.

Also confirming the death of his daughter, Adenike's father said he never knew she was battling depression. Idris said he only spoke to her on the phone since he separated from her mother.

“Since her mother and I separated, I usually talked to her (Fatai) on the phone. Probably she would have told me what was bothering her if we had the opportunity of seeing each other" he said.

The leadership of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), have released an official statement reacting to the rape allegation against their senior pastor, Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo, by Busola Dakolo, wife of singer Timi Dakolo. Busola in a tell-all interview released in June, acccused Fatoyinbo of raping her when she was a teenager attending his church in Ilorin, Fatoyinbo has since denied the allegation.

In a statement issued in Abuja by the Executive Senior Assistant to the Senior Pastor of COZA, Ademola Adetuberu, today Saturday September 21st, COZA said that Fatoyinbo never raped Busola.

“We see this ugly development fuelled by envy and sheer jealousy as an unnecessary distraction and a fight from the pit of hell against the ministry that God gave Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo, as well as a declaration of war against the Church of Christ to which COZA is a flourishing branch under God’s grace.

“As a result of the recent unprovoked satanic campaign of calumny orchestrated against the leadership and members of our church, Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA) by agents of darkness, the church would like to break its silence and clear certain misconception and misinformation being churned out in order to misguide members of the church, public and relevant authorities that we do not support rape.

We stand with anyone who has been a victim of rape. We stand by our Founding and Senior Pastor, Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo, who has been at the receiving end of organized blackmail and all sorts of attacks because of his innocence and we are sure that our faithful and unfailing God will vindicate him very soon.

“As for Busola Dakolo, justice will soon be served. We would like to, again, for the record reiterate that our Senior Pastor, Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo, has never had anything personal to do with her. Busola was not raped by Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo and she had never been in a relationship with him either.

“We are not unaware that certain pastors that felt threatened by the unprecedented growth of COZA and the grace of God upon His Servant are after some of our members, just making every effort to cash in on the attack against God’s servant. There was nothing they had not done behind the scene until this rape scandal. They are accusing our Pastor of snatching their members. Some are even asking why he couldn’t remain in Ilorin. Our focus is the Kingdom of God and winning souls for Christ. COZA is home to those who have sold out to Jesus. At COZA, we believe that every sent servant of God has his or her harvest field given to him or her by God and not by poaching souls or believers of another ministry.

Those sponsoring these evils to desist however if they do not, the God of vengeance will visit them. They should let Rev. Biodun Fatoyinbo continue freely with his divine mandate that our Lord Jesus Christ gave him. It is ungodly and sinful to be used by satan against the anointed.”
