The prosecution trying four men for the murder of Cynthia Osokogu, who was allegedly killed by her Facebook friends, tendered picture of the corpse, among other exhibits before a Lagos High Court, Igbosere, on Monday.

One of the pictures showed the lifeless body of the deceased cellotaped on the mouth with her passport lying on her chest. One of them was a close-up shot of her private part.

Lagos State Attorney-General, Mr. Ade Ipaye, who led a prosecution witness, Sergent John Babalola, at the Monday's proceedings told the court that the pictures were sent by the first defendant's (Okwumo Nwabufo) from his Blackberry phone to his laptop.

Nwabufo (34), Olisaeloka Ezike (24), Orji Osita (33), Ezike Nonso, were being prosecuted for the murder of the deceased and other related offences including receiving stolen property and others.

Osokogu was allegedly killed by Nwabufo and Ezike on July 22, 2012 at Cosmilla Hotel, Lakeview Estate, Amuwo Odofin, FestacTown, Lagos.

The prosecution while testifying before Justice Olabisi Akinalde said additional statements were obtained from Nwabufo after the pictures were discovered on the laptop.

Babalola said, "After we discovered the picture, ACP Dan Okoro, the Area Commander, asked that additional statements should be made based on picture. The statement was signed by the first defendant.

"When the first defendant was arrested, he confessed that he knew what he did and that everything was over.

"The first defendant then operated the Blackberry phone to show us (police) the chain used in tying the deceased."

Babalola said the first defendant was arrested at his FESTAC home in August 2012 after which he confessed to the crime.

He said phones, SIM cards of various networks and laptop were recovered from the accused person.

The witness added, "On that same date, the first defendant was asked to open the laptop, which he carried by himself to the Area Commander's office, I and one ASP Marian were there and we saw the picture of the deceased lying down and her international passport lying on her chest."

Another prosecution witness Inspector Joseph Edo, during cross-examination, maintained that from his investigation, he discovered that the fourth defendant (Nonso) received stolen phones from the first and second defendant on three occasions.

"The fourth defendant took me to Ladipo market where he stole somebody's receipt which he used in selling the deceased's phone to somebody in Port Harcourt and the person was arrested.

"He bought the phone for N30,000 and sold for N40,000. He also knows that his elder brother does not deal in sales of mobile phones. He confessed that he gave the locked phone to a phone repairer who flashed it for him," Edo stated.

The witness informed the court that there is another investigation against the defendants, in two various hotels (Chelsea Suit and Penny Hotel), Festac, where they were alleged to have carried out act.

Edo explained that he separated the cases because the incidents did not happen on the same day, saying "it was based on the confessional statement by the first and second defendant that they carried out similar acts in other hotels in Festac."

The trial judge, Justice Olabisi Akinlade, however adjourned till June 27 and 30 for continuation of trial after the prosecutor said that they will need to operate the first defendant's phone to retrieve some evidence.

The prosecution alleged that the accused drugged Osokogu with Rohypnol Flunitrazepan, put a chain on her neck and strangled her to death.

They were also alleged to have stolen three blackberry phones valued at N150,000, Jewelries, an international passport, and a drivers' licence, belonging to the deceased.

Ipaye also accused Osita, a pharmacist, of negligently selling the Rohypnol Flunitrazepan tablets to Ezike, without a doctor's prescription and without showing due care.

The attorney-general alleged that Nonso was charged for being in possession of three blackberry mobile phones belonging to Osokogu.

The third and fourth defendant are however on bail while the first and second defendants are in prison custody.
