Barely 18 days after gaining freedom from the detention of State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti in Lagos, Godwin Nwankwo, 23, was yesterday re-arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly vandalizing bridge railings and crash barriers on Ijora Bridge, same offence he committed about three months ago. The photo above was taken after  he was caught for his latest crime.

The criminal suspect was arrested when he was bringing out some cut-to-size railings and crash barriers from manholes which were meant to reinforce Ijora Bridge from vibrating as well as protect vehicles from falling from the bridge.

The suspect, who spent 44 days in the police’s detention for stealing railings in ijora Bridge, stated that he stole the railings because he was desperately hungry and there was no alternative means for him to get money.
“When I was arrested for the first time, I pleaded for leniency and mercies. Now, I had been caught again, I don’t know what to say or plead for mercies again. All I can say is that it was the devil that pushed me into this act”.
The suspect who hails from Enugu State in Aninri LGA, said upon gaining freedom from the police’s custody, things were very hard for him again, and to make ends meet was very difficult, thus making him to go back to the crime.
He added:
“I had to go back to the act of vandalizing the bridge when I had nothing on me to cater for my well-beings. Although, I am regretting my action but it is too late for me now”.
He explained that he was looking for money to relocate to Enugu as life is difficult for him in Lagos.
“My plan was to raise some money to enable me relocate to Enugu, where I repair handsets before coming to Lagos. I want to leave Lagos because my life has been meaningless here”, he stated.
While confessing to the crime, he revealed that he sold the stolen railings to one Alhaji Talimu Sanni and another man, now at large, in Ijora area of the state.

His revelation to the interrogators resulted in the arrest of one of the main receivers of the stolen railings, Talimu Sanni, the following day.
The 54 year-old receiver owned up to the Police, that he collected the items from the suspect about six weeks ago.
"Although, I bought bridge railings from the suspect, but I don't know they were stolen items", he added.
The State Police’ Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, SP Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the arrest, added that anyone involved in the act would be brought to book.
“We are intensifying our efforts to arrest anybody vandalizing Government’s infrastructure across the state. This stride has begun to yield positive results as some of them have been arrested and they are facing prosecution at the moment”, she said.
This photo was taken when he was arrested months ago.

Som Lisaius, 42, and Krystin Sorich Lisaius, both Tv Reporters in Arizona were arraigned on three criminal charges in Tucson on Monday after Krystin Sorich breastfed her four month old baby hours after snorting cocaine with her husband..

The woman rushed her baby who fell ill the next day to a hospital and refused to do a toxicology test despite cocaine showing in the four month old baby's system but she later admitted to police that she used the hard drug, but didn't think the baby would be harmed if 12 hours had passed before breast-feeding.

The television personalities said the child was 'wabbly,' 'became limp' and that her 'eyes were rolling into the back of her head,' and rushed her on May 15 to Oro Valley Hospital.
The couple agreed to have the baby transferred to another hospital- Diamond Children's Hospital, after they both refused doing blood tests, and once the baby arrived at the facility, they also refused letting the baby undergo a toxicology test.
The hospital eventually conducted a urinalysis and a toxicology screen on the baby in the presence of police officials and child welfare, and found out the baby had cocaine in his bloodstream.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, one detective wrote in a report: 'It should be noted that at no time according to the report did either parent tell the hospital staff about the mother's cocaine use the night before and Krystin continued to breast feed while at the hospital.'

She first denied taking cocaine, but later admitted to police that she snorted cocaine on May 14 while hosting friends in their Oro Valley home before breast feeding the child.

He reportedly told cops that he used the drug about 'every six weeks or so,' and that he has watched his wife use cocaine since giving birth to their daughter four months ago.
Police obtained a search warrant and found 1.59 grams of cocaine and a scale inside their home on May 16.
Detectives also located 'one clear baggie' containing a white powdery substance along with a Hilton Hotel Honor's card that had a white residue on it.
In addition, they found another container that had .1 grams of cocaine, a Tiffany and Co. jewelry box with a rolled-up dollar bill with residue inside of it and another bag with .21 grams of cocaine.

The couple were arraigned on several charges, including child abuse, possession of a dangerous drug and drug paraphernalia on Monday but both plead not guilty in court.

Jeremy Hall, the founding minister of the church had this to say about this innovative new way of getting high while worshipping. He said,
What I’m hoping to accomplish in the long run is to provide a place where people can be spiritual, but can also feel safe to take any of their medication

The 34-year-old who who leads the service, told the Lansing State Journal,
If they also feel cannabis is part of their spirituality, they can combine the two in a safe environment.
Hall also said that the non-denominational church is “the first of its kind” in Michigan.
Hall feels marijuana can be part of a “religious experience,” of sorts. Saying,
It can help people in pain and create a sense of belonging. You are consuming something that is breaking down all these preconceived notions and barriers and provides an outpouring of love.

The trial of Azibaola Robert, a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan began on Tuesday, with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, presenting its first witness, Ibrahim Mahe who gave account of how he transferred $40m to ‘One Plus Holdings Nigeria Limited’, a company owned by Robert.

Azibaola and his wife, Stella, are standing trial before Justice Nnamdi O. Dimgba of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja, for seven counts bordering on money laundering, criminal breach of trust and corruption.

Mahe, a retired permanent secretary, special services in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, while being led in evidence by counsel for the EFCC, Sylvanus Tahir, told the court that he did not know Azibaola and Stella personally but knew ‘One Plus Holdings’ through a transaction.

The witness said on August 20, 2014, Dasuki told him to pay $40m into the account of One Plus Holdings for reasons unknown.

He said, “on August 20, 2014, the National Security Adviser endorsed a memo to me which originated from the Office of the Director of Finance and Administration of the ONSA detailing the bank details of one company called ‘One Plus’ and the purpose for which the company was to be paid a sum of $40m.

“The NSA instructed me to prepare payment and I prepared the payment mandate for the $40m in favour of ‘One Plus’ for the signature of the NSA. I sent it to the NSA, he signed and sent it back to me and subsequent action was for me to counter-sign the mandate and then send it to the Central Bank of Nigeria for Payment.”

Mahe had earlier told the court that his responsibilities involved matters that had to do with the ONSA. He said that the Special Services Office responsibilities in relation with the ONSA had to do with matters relating to finances of the entire intelligence community which included the Department of State Services, National Intelligence Agency and ONSA.

According to him, permanent secretary, Special Security Office was responsible for co-ordination of the annual budget of the members of the intelligence community.

“After formulating the budget, the Accountant General releases the funds of the intelligence community through an account that is domiciled with the Special Security Office from where it is distributed to the various end users,” Mahe added.

He told the court that his office served as a warehouse for funds of the ‘Intelligence Community’ and went further to explain how funds were utilised.

“When funds get into the account, the NSA is informed of the arrival of the funds and proposal on the distribution to the various agencies is made to him. When he approves, the monies are sent to the end users,” said Mahe.

The judge adjourned the case till July 4 and 5, 2016 for continuation of trial.

A 22-year-old woman, Bara’atu Rabiu, who cut off the penis of her rival’s one-month-old baby, has been remanded in the Minna Medium Security Prison.
According to PUNCH Metro, the suspect had been married to her husband, Mohammed Rabiu, for seven years, without a child.
She allegedly cut off the baby’s penis to punish him for marrying a second wife.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Bala James, explained that the suspect wanted to kill the victim, adding that the child, who was named after President Muhammadu Buhari, survived the attack.
He said,

“The woman used a sharp knife to cut through the genitals of the one-month-old baby. She had been married to her husband for seven years without any child. So, out of pressure, the man decided to marry a second wife.
“When the second wife had a baby, she became angry and frustrated. She thought the best thing to do was to kill the child.
“On June 21, around 10pm, she took the baby to the backyard of their house and used a sharp knife to cut off his penis.
“The cry of the baby attracted neighbours, who rushed to the place and found him in a pool of blood. The suspect wanted to run away, but she was overpowered. She was handed over to the police, while the baby was taken to a hospital.”
The baby was said to have been taken to the Accident and Emergency Ward of the Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida Specialist Hospital, Minna.
Our correspondent was told that a surgical operation to enable him to pass out urine was immediately performed.
The Head of Department, General Outpatient Ward of the hospital, Dr. Ahmed Mohammed, said the boy might never regain the use of his private parts.
He explained that all the tissues in the affected part had been dead before he was brought to the hospital.
He said, “He is doing well – health-wise. He survived the attack. However, there is no assurance of the penis getting back because all the tissues were dead when he was brought into the hospital. We just had to conduct a surgery for him to be able to pass urine.
“Medically, for him to regain the use of his manhood will be difficult.  If the team that was supposed to work on him had been around immediately, maybe the situation would have been different. For such a case, you need a general surgeon, a neurologist and a plastic surgeon. But these were not available. His future right now is in the hands of God. Another possibility is if there is artificial attachment.
“I really pity the boy’s condition. I cannot imagine that somebody will do this to a baby. It is better for the child to die than for him to be in this condition.  Even if he survives, what purpose will he be living for?”
The suspect, who was arraigned on Monday on one count of attempted homicide, was remanded in prison by the court.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, to vacate office immediately for submitting false information to his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, for the party’s governorship primary in December 2014.
Justice Okon Abang in a judgment on Monday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to immediately issue a certificate of return to the plaintiff, Uche Ogah, who polled the second highest number of votes in the primary.

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps have arrested four school-leavers for allegedly producing adulterated engine oil.
The suspects, John Ibem, Lawrence Frank, Agu Ndubuisi and Samuel Chukwuonye, were paraded on Friday at the Lagos State Command of the NSCDC in Ikeja.
It was learnt that they were apprehended on Thursday at a factory on Marine Bridge Street, Apapa, where the lubricant was produced in large quantity.
The factory owner, identified simply as Emeka, took to his heels and was still at large as of the time of filing this report.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects branded the counterfeit product in the name of a leading lubricant producer in the country in order to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
Five jerrycans containing the counterfeit product and a bucket of gum used in the factory were said to have been recovered by the security operatives.
However, the suspects did not disclose the price at which they sold a jerrycan of the adulterated lubricant.
It was learnt that same quantity of the original engine oil was sold for N5,000.
Ndubuisi, 19, who hails from Ebonyi State, said five drums of the counterfeit oil with 250 litres each were produced daily at the factory.
The teenager, who said he was paid N8,000 per week, added that he wanted to use his wages to fund his higher education.
He said, “I am one of the manufacturers at the factory. We produce about five drums per day. The oil is packaged inside four-litre jerrycans. But I don’t know the price for each. It is our boss, Emeka, that markets the product. He does not disclose the price to us. He gives me N8,000 per week.  I just finished my secondary school and I intend to continue my education.”
Twenty-three-year-old Chukwuonye from Anambra State said he did not know the factory produced adulterated engine oil until he was arrested.
“I was arrested the first day I worked with them,” he added.
Ibem, an indigene of Abia State, who regretted working at the factory, said his role was to package the oil into jerrycans in readiness for sale.
He said, “I joined the factory in February 2015. I collected N8,000 per week. My work is to package the oil for sale but it is our boss that takes it to the market.”
Twenty-three-year-old Frank, said, “My duty is to load the product inside buses for it to be taken to the market. But I don’t know where it is sold. I know it is adulterated. It was joblessness that made me join the factory. I just finished from secondary school last year.”
Two other suspects – 50-year-old Kehinde Atanda and Johnson Uche, 25, – were also paraded on Friday for alleged adulteration and illegal dealing in oil.
But Atanda, who hails from Kwara State, said, “I sell oil in Apapa. I normally buy remnants of oil in Apapa and I give it to Uche to help me filter it. I have been doing the business for seven years. I wanted to collect the refined oil from him when I was arrested.”
Uche, 25, confirmed to our correspondent that he assisted Atanda to filter the alleged remnants of oil.
The Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos Command, Tajudeen Balogun, said his men swooped on the suspects based on intelligence report, adding that they would face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.
He said, “They were caught where they were doing illegal mixing. The oil can destroy car engines. A laboratory test is ongoing on the product in order to confirm its counterfeit nature and to serve as evidence against them.”

A 28-year-old woman, Ifeoma Daniel, has been arrested by the police in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, for allegedly turning six girls to sex slaves.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Daniel, who hails from Ahiazu Mbaise, Imo State, and a suspected accomplice, Collins Madueke, 28, were arrested in the Apo area by the Special Intelligence Response Team of the Inspector-General of Police.
Our correspondent gathered that the six victims, whose ages ranged from 19 to 22, were found locked up in a room before the police rescued and handed them over to officials of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons and other related matters.
Our correspondent learnt that the girls were rescued on Friday, June 17, 2016.
The victims – Chidinma Amakwe, Blessing John, Nancy Azubuike, Chiamaka Eze, Amarachi Chinedu and Beauty Ndulue – reportedly told the police that they were lured by the suspects to Abuja to become commercial sex workers.
They said they were promised N200,000 after six months.
Speaking with PUNCH Metro, Daniel, a mother of two, said she brought two of the girls from their villages.
She said, “I have two children, Akunnaya and Charity. I divorced my husband three years ago because he always beat me. I went into commercial sex work as a means of survival. I started the work in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. I was told commercial sex was more lucrative in Abuja, so I relocated here in 2015.
“I operated in the Apo area. I thought I could make more money by recruiting some girls to work for me. I brought the girls and the agreement was that I would pay them N100, 000 after six months. I also promised to take care of their feeding.
“I brought only two of the girls – Chinedu and John. The other girls were brought by two women known as Mama Cynthia and Azonto.”
Madueke, who hails from Nsukka, Enugu State, denied working with Daniel to recruit the victims for commercial sex work.
He said, “I worked as a hairdresser. In the first week of June, I was in my shop when Chinedu (one of the girls) approached me saying she wanted to learn hairdressing. The following day, she came back with four other girls and they all said they wanted to learn as well. I know them as apprentices.”
One of the victims, Azubuike, 20, said she slept with no fewer than 15 men in a day, adding that Daniel made N20,000 from her daily.
She said, “I hail from Mbaise, Imo State. I dropped out of secondary school. My parents were aware that I wanted to go to Abuja to learn a vocation. My friend told me it would be commercial sex work. What I did not understand was that we would be locked up in a room.
“I slept with no fewer than 15 men in a day because they loved my services and always asked for more. I normally made between N15,000 and N20,000 every day, but the money went to madam (Daniel). I was asked to stay with her because there was no accommodation. The police stormed the place where we were locked up and rescued us.”
Another victim, John, 19, who hails from Aba, Abia State, said, “It was one Aunty Joy who brought me to Abuja and handed me over to Madam Azonto. Madam Azonto promised to give me N200,000 after six months if I agreed to be a commercial sex worker.
“She kept me in a room with the other girls and brought our food to the same room. Every evening, we were taken out to different joints where we slept with several men. I normally collected N1,000 per round from customers.”
Our correspondent learnt that a man, who stayed in the neighbourhood where the girls were locked up, gave the police a tip-off.
A police source said, “The girls were kept in the room and someone usually brought food for them through the window. When we got there, we forced the door open and we discovered that there were six girls.”
Our correspondent gathered that the police were making efforts to arrest the fleeing members of the syndicate.
