Three suspects identified as Balogun Lukman, Sunday Kayode and Atanda Abiodun, have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly vandalising the mast of a telecommunications company, MTN, at Ode-Remo, in the Remo North Local Government Area of the state.
A patrol team of the Ishara division of the command led by the Divisional Police Officer, Yusuf Taiwo, reportedly arrested the suspects on Friday, April 27, 2018. According to the State Police PRO, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the telecoms mast vandals who came in a blue Ford bus, with the number plate NRK 842 XA, were sighted at the mast site around 2am with the vandalised parts of the mast, including three heavy duty batteries and cutters.
However the suspects who sighted the policemen took to their heels, but were given a hot chase which led to their arrest. Oyeyemi further added that while three were arrested, two escaped as the State Police Commissioner ordered a full scale investigation.
“The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered a full scale investigation into the case. He has asked that the two fleeing suspects be apprehended,” he added.
Few months ago, the Ogun State Police Command also arrested eight suspects who specialise in vandalising telecommunication masts. The suspects were identified as : Tunde Adebayo, Adewole Saheed, Chinedu Eze, Isaac Dele and Henpery Evans. Others are: Emmanuel Otulo, Olaniyan Olayinka and Jimoh Idowu.
They were arrested on a tip off by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Owode Egba, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sheu Alao.
The Policeman was told that some men in a Ford bus with registration number EPE 613DJ stormed the MTN mast located at Gbalefu village Ajebo, vandalized it and were about zooming off with valuable equipment. Upon the information, the DPO led his men to the scene where the suspects were rounded up.
