The ruling of the gubernatorial election petition tribunal in Rivers state was today upheld by the Court of Appeal sitting Abuja.
The five judges of the appellate court agreed on the lead judgment upholding the decision of the tribunal sacking Wike. In October, the tribunal had held that Wike was not duly elected governor of Rivers state. It ruled that a fresh election be held in the state within 90 days.
Wike of the PDP, had run to the Court of Appeal after an election petition tribunal ruled in favor of Dakuku Peterside of the APC. The Court however dismissed his appeal on all grounds, saying the election was marred by wide-scale violence.
