Weekend Football Round-up: Moyes Off To A Great Start; Arsenal Stunned At Home; Welcome Back Jose; Tata Tantalized At Home; Madrid Still Wobbling

Well it was such a beautiful weekend of football as major leagues around the world kicked off in great fashion.

First was Mankind's Most-Followed League, the Barclays Premier League, where Liverpool kicked off the season with a win against a plucky Stoke City football club courtesy of a lone goal by Daniel Sturridge.

Then followed the Arsenal-Aston Villa game, where several thousands of Arsenal supporters were left dejected as Gabriel Agbolanhor of Aston Villa made life unbearable for the defence of Arsenal as the Gunners were soundly beaten 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium, a defeat which has left a sour taste in the mouths of Arsenal fans.

In the late Saturday kick off, it was Swansea City entertaining defending champions, Manchester United as the Liberty Stadium, where clinical finishing from Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck nailed the Swans, much to the delight of new manager, David Moyes.

Sunday afternoon was much more straightforward, with Tottenham beating newly-promoted side, Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park.

In the late kick off on Sunday, Jose Mourinho was welcomed back with open arms by Chelsea supporters as his side defeated newly-promoted Hull City Tigers 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, courtesy of goals from Oscar and Frank Lampard.

The last game of the English Premier League will take place between money spinners, Manchester City and Newcastle United by 8pm, today.

In the Spanish La Liga which kicked off at the weekend also, new Barcelona manager, Gerado Tata Martino was left to fold his arms as Barca routed Levante 7-0 at the Camp Nou in typical fashion, thanks to goals from Alexis Sanchez, Daniel Alves, Messi and co.

Real Madrid began life under new manager, Carlo Ancelotti in the same old same manner as they left off last season, as they struggled to overcome a plucky Real Betis side at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium as they overturned a 1- goal deficit to win 2-1 with goals from Karim Benzema and Isco.

In the German Bundesliga, FC Bayern continued life under new manager, Pep Guardiola in the second game of the season as they won by a lone goal, while Borussia Dortmund also won their game.

Also not forgetting the Italian Serie A, where Juventus began the defence of their title in similar fashion as they routed Lazio 4-0 at the Juventus Stadium.

There were games played in the French League too as well as in other European countries. So much weekend of soccer.
I was fully entertained this weekend, as it promises to be one long season ahead.
