A mild drama ensued in an Ikeja Magistrate court yesterday as one of the suspects to be arraigned absconded just before his matter was to be called out.
Ayo Adelaja, 33, who was appearing in court following allegations of reckless driving, was supposed to be arraigned before Magistrate Akande but he escaped from the court premises.
According to reports, Adelaja's counsel asked the investigating police officer (IPO) to allow him have a discussion with the defendant, only to realize that the defendant had disappeared.
Adelaja, who was the driver of a Honda City Saloon Car with registration number KSF 32 BB, was said to have taken an illegal U- turn along Kudirat Abiola way at Oregun area of Lagos, on September 23, 2013 at about 4:30pm.
It was also gathered that he damaged a Tricycle, belonging to one Baba Abba, when he allegedly took the Illegal U-turn, which got him charged to court.
Immediately the suspect escaped, the IPO detained the suspect's lawyer to facilitate Adelaja's reappearance.
