Reps Decry State Of National Stadium Surulere Lagos

The House of Representative Committee on Sports on Friday expressed dismay over the deplorable state of the National Stadium, Surelere, Lagos.

The four-member committee, led by the Chairman, Godfrey Gaiya, expressed the disappointment when it inspected facilities at the stadium.

Gaiya, however, told reporters that the deplorable state of the stadium would be addressed in 2014.

He said the costs of restoration work at the stadium would be captured in the 2014 budget.

The chairman said the committee could not achieve much this year due to the N1bn provided in the 2013 budget to maintain facilities in the six National stadia.

The chairman said that the pioneer national stadium, built in 1972, would enjoy proper maintenance in 2014.
