An eye witness has recounted the gory details of how one Chinweoru Ugbo, 32, in Ebonyi State allegedly butchered Ogbuleji Nwite, 78, who was his uncle with an axe.
Eyewitness Nweke Nwankwo according to Vanguard News said that the crime occurred on a vegetable farmland. "I was on top of a palm tree harvesting fruits and saw both of them conversing. I never suspected anything because they were relatives," Nwankwo was reported as saying.
"But I felt cold to the spine when the boy started brutalising the old man, who recently returned from the hospital after an eye surgery."
Ugbo has since been arrested by the Onueke Divisional Police Command in the state. More evidence was revealed after a white T-shirt a witness had seen the suspect in earlier was found with blood stains in his room.
Reports claim the young man had tricked his uncle early Saturday morning to follow him into the lonely farm land claiming he wanted to show him a piece of land he planned to buy. The elderly man ended up with 27 cuts afterwards.
Vanguard reports that the suspect was caught by the villagers at Igweledoha Nsokkara community, when he was packing his bags intending to make a clean get away.
There are rumours that Ugbo acted based on his belief that his uncle was hindering his success in life.
