Starting from this month, First Bank of Nigeria is to introduce a monthly charge of N100 on all transactions carried out through the use of the Automated Teller Machine. The notice was displayed vividly across most ATM machines nationwide. According to a Customer Care Representative in one of the branches of the bank in Surulere, Lagos, said the monthly charge of N100 is for what he called 'Card Maintenance Fee'.
This is a stark contrast to the resolution made last November by the Bankers' Committee to stop the N100 interbank charge on the use of ATM cards. Some customers of the bank who expressed surprise at the recent development prayed the regulatory authorities to stop the bank from going ahead with the policy.
