Indications emerged on Friday that the Presidency may have ordered the investigation of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Bello Adoke (SAN) over alleged corruption and abuse of office.
Although the details of the invitation were still sketchy as at press time, the decision followed a petition by a civil rights organisation, Anti-Corruption Network to President Goodluck Jonathan dated April 11 detailing alleged graft and "outrageous use of powers against public interest."
Adoke's investigation was contained in a letter from the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, signed by Ali Amodu, a Commissioner of Police in charge of X Squad, to the Executive Secretary of ACN, Otunba Dino Melaye, which said that it was investigating the allegations of corruption, abuse of office and incompetence leveled against the AGF.
The letter specifically invited Melaye to the Police Force Headquarters in connection with the investigations and directed that a full-scale investigation is being conducted into the allegations by the X-Squad.
It reads: "This office is investigating a case of alleged corruption, abuse of office and incompetence leveled against the current Honorable Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (Mohammed Bello Adoke) by your organisation.
"In view of this, the Inspector-General of Police, has directed that a full scale investigation be conducted into the allegations by this office. Consequently, you are invited to meet the undesigned on Friday, May 10, 2013 by 1000 hrs prompt in Room 1C – 053 First Floor, Police Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Central Area, Abuja."
But when contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the AGF, Mr. Ambrose Momoh, told our correspondent that he could not speak on the investigation by the Police.
