A student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State has narrated how robbers invaded their hostel, raping them and forcing them to have sex with each other..In tears,Bimbola (not real name) agreed to narrate her ordeal to a Punch correspondent last Monday.

What she passed through in August was painful, unimaginable and dehumanising. In fact, she might not be able to forget that night in her life.Ever since the incident, everything about her has changed, according to her friend.
In the night of August 13, 2015 – around 12 midnight – she said she and her roommate had returned from a night reading class in preparation for their forthcoming exam in November, locked their room and were about to sleep when they heard their hostel mates jamming their doors, screaming and walking up the hostel stairs.
Before they knew what was happening, the men were at their door and expectedly, they forced the door open.
“Come out now or we will kill you,” she recalled what the men told her and her roommate, and with fear and trembling, the girls did their bidding.
Three hefty fearful-looking men, clad in black polos and jeans, armed with guns, machetes and axes had stormed their hostel – located in the Under G Area of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State – and demanded that all the students, both male and female, should gather in one room.

While one of the hoodlums stayed with the students, pointing guns at them should they ‘misbehave,’ the other two locked the entrance to the hostel, ransacked all rooms one after the other, stole the students’ laptops, money, debit cards, tablets and mobile phones.
But even after stealing all their property, the robbers were not done. The next command they gave the students was what Bimbola has not yet got over with.
She narrated,
“They raped some girls in our presence, but not only that, they asked us to start having sex with ourselves. They called from among us a guy and a girl and asked them to have sex with themselves, right in everybody’s presence. They threatened to use their weapons on us if we didn’t cooperate. Then they asked all of us to strip naked. Since it was in the night, most of us ladies already had only our night gowns on, while most of the guys were just putting on boxers. They said we should all be naked. When they were satisfied, they called another pair of students to do the same thing and told everybody to watch.
“For about three hours, they dehumanised us, humiliated us. Unfortunately, nobody in the next hostel knew what was going on; if anyone knew, they would have helped us to call the police or the Student Union Government officials.”
But what was more pathetic about Bimbola’s story was that she didn’t just witness the whole action; she was also asked to have sex with a guy she never dated.
“Everything happened like it was a dream. They pointed at a guy I knew as my junior and asked him to do ‘it’ with me. When I refused, they slapped me and I fell. I had no option than to do it. I looked at my roommate and she was already shedding tears for me. How humiliated I was!” she cried.
She further told our correspondent,
“It was not a night to remember. I wish I could erase it from my memory. My friend and I returned to the hostel that night after reading in the school because our exam is fast approaching. If I knew something like that would happen, I would have stayed in the school till the morning, but I needed to prepare for the following day’s work. I had just finished having a shower when my roommate and I observed something was wrong. There was no light, so we couldn’t see properly, but we observed that our hostel mates were all jamming their doors at some men’s command.
“They cramped all of us in one of the rooms upstairs and we were all frightened. My parents are not yet aware of this incident and I don’t wish to share it with anyone again. I only agreed to speak to you because my friend here encouraged me to and I feel something should be done by the authorities concerned to stop this barbarism. I know I’ll be fine soon.”
Since July when they resumed for the semester, the students of LAUTECH have been witnessing robbery attacks and rape by the same set of unknown men – who call themselves ‘Three MOPOLs’ each time they barge into their victims’ hostels.
The Welfare Officer of the Student Union Government of the institution, Ridwan Okedara, said he could not count the number of calls he had received ever since the incident started occurring in July up till about two weeks ago. He said it was unfortunate that the hoodlums had yet to be apprehended.
He said,
“I’ve received calls in the past four months almost every passing night about this incident. Victims and eyewitnesses usually say the robbers were always three and they would tell them they were the ‘Three MOPOLS,’ but we are not sure if they are not even more than that. For instance, there were some nights when I received calls that the robbers were operating in the Adenike Area (a popular students’ residential area near the school) and I would quickly call our security officers to go to the said hostel, but few minutes later, I would receive a call that they were operating somewhere else.
“Before the security people could get there, the robbers would have left and we would hear they had started operating somewhere else. We don’t know their tactics yet. From what we have heard from eyewitnesses, they would enter a hostel, pretend as if they were looking for somebody and before the students knew it, they would threaten them with guns and machetes and ask all of them to be inside one particular room after collecting their phones, laptops and money. They ask the students to strip off their clothes – both male and female, then ask them to start having sex with themselves. They could call a male from say 200 Level and ask him to have sex with say a 400 Level female student.
“These robbers rape our students and then ask the students to have sex with themselves. We’ve heard a case when the robbers used white handkerchiefs to wipe the private parts of the students after the act. We are also suspecting ritualism here. They go to hostels anytime from 8pm to 1am and from eyewitnesses’ accounts, there was usually no light anytime the hoodlums carried out their operation.”
This is exactly what another victim of robbery in September by the same
The other victim who spoke with our correspondent said,
“It was very dark and there was no light to see their faces when they came to our hostel. They told us they were the ‘Three MOPOLS,’ and mere looking at them, we could not imagine how they were able to gain entry into our hostel and ordering all of us to go inside one room. We were told to take off our clothes and they raped some of the girls. They didn’t rape me and they didn’t ask me to have sex with anyone, but they stole my laptop and phone. It was traumatic. It was like experiencing hell that night.

A  self-acclaimed member of Eiye confraternity yesterday gave a graphic description  of how he  murdered one of his rivals during a birthday party held in Mushin area of Lagos last week.
cult
Late Sura Abiola Lateef………The suspects, Morufu Liadi and Rilwan Balogun.
Arrested alongside the 22-year-old suspect was his alleged accomplice.
The deceased, a commercial motorcyclist, identified as  Sura Abiola Lateef,  was reportedly attacked along with his friend, when they stepped out to buy sachet water.
While his friend, identified as Rilwan, was said to have managed to escape with a deep cut in the neck,  same could not be said of Lateef, who was  stabbed in different parts of his body and abandoned in the pool of his blood and he bled to death.
Briefing newsmen on activities of cultists in the state, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai  Owoseni, said the command had launched a manhunt for cultists, disclosing that over 20 suspected cultists had been arrested between October 18 and 21, 2015.
Among them were 22-year-old Morufu Liadi and Rilwan Balogun who confessed to have had a hand in the late commercial motorcyclist’s death.
Speaking with Vanguard, Liadi who showed no sign of remorse, said the killing of late Lateef was to avenge the death of his elder  brother.
He said: “I am a vulcanizer. I  was forced to join the  Eiye confraternity last year in order to avenge the death of my brother who was murdered by cultists seven years ago. I waited until last year to join because by then, I was only 15 years old and I was told that I was too young to join a cult.
“ Last Sunday,  I was invited to a birthday bash at  Agbekolade Street, Mushin, where members ofAye were in attendance. While there, my friend (pointing to Balogun who sat by his side) showed me a young man named Lateef, who he said was among those that murdered my elder brother, Azeez, seven years ago. He said Lateef was one of Aye’s hit men.
“Immediately I got up to challenge him (Lateef ) and to my surprise, the person with him brought out a gun. He fired some shots at me but none penetrated. At that moment, they both took to their heels. But  Lateef fell and I used that opportunity to  stab him on any part of the body I could lay my hands on. I did that to avenge the death of my brother .“
On his part, Balogun, a Junior Secondary  School 3  drop out, claimed he was not a cultist. Although he admitted to have pointed the deceased to Liadi, he  said he did not witness the murder.
The suspects, according to the command boss, will be charged to court thereafter.

The World Bank has asked for more time to provide a detailed report on the loot of former military dictator, Sani Abacha, saying the loot is too huge for it to handle. The World Bank said this in response to a request by civil society group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) asking for a comprehensive document detailing all the loots of the former military dictator which is estimated at $11.3 billion and stashed in foreign banks.

"In response to your request, we would like to inform you that we are still considering your request and we will need additional time because the money involved is too huge for us to handle." World bank says
The World Bank added that although it takes just 20 working days to respond to such requests, under special cases, it could take longer time.

TONGUES are wagging in Calabar, Cross River State, over why the police are yet to arraign in court a dismissed staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, who allegedly shot dead a 22-year-old secondary school leaver, Douglas Ochaga Ojugbo, on March 10, for hitting it off with his daughter. Health officials from Calabar Urban Development Authority, CUDA, buried the remains of Douglas, who was preparing to write his 2015 JAMB-UTME examination, in a shallow grave on the orders of the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in the area without identifying him. The DPO said the killer informed the police that Douglas was an armed robber, who came to rob him in his house.

‘It’s rooster and bull story’

However, family of the deceased described the claim by the police and their son’s killer as a rooster and bull story. Mother of the slain boy, Mrs. Maria Ogar Ojugbo, a director at the Fishery Unit, Ministry of Agriculture, Calabar, told Niger Delta Voice that her son went to collect money for a mini-notebook he sold to the man’s daughter, Mercy, when the assailant killed him.

Father of the deceased, Mr. Ogar Ojugbo, in a petition to the Inspector General of Police, said his son was not a robber and that the former NNPC staff killed him in cold blood because he was having an amorous relationship with his daughter. He asserted: “My son is 22 years old. Sometime this year, he sold his used mini-laptop to the daughter of the suspect, who leaves with him at his River Basin Authority home. The daughter made a part payment of the agreed sum leaving a balance.

“My son had been visiting the home of the suspect to collect or recover the balance of his money. The suspect, not pleased with the boy’s presence, inquired or demanded to know what he was doing in his house. “My son tried to explain to him his transaction with his daughter. Without any effort to verify the boy’s story, he asked him to leave his house and warned him never to visit his house again.

“My son was about leaving when his daughter asked my son to come on March 10 and collect the balance of his money. On the said day, my son went to the house hoping to see his daughter as they agreed, but unfortunately he saw the suspect.

Deadly confrontation

“The suspect, on sighting my son, ran into his room and fetched his gun. Douglas, on sighting him with a gun, took to his heels to save his life. “However, having made up his mind to kill my son, he pursued him until he caught up with him at the gate of Basin Authority, a distance of a kilometre from his house. “He shot my son first on the leg as a result of which Douglas fell down and to accomplish his goal, he shot him the second time on the arm to make sure that my son is dead.

“Furthermore, the suspect having accomplished his goal bundled the body of the late Douglas into a police van and took same to the Divisional Police Officer of Federal Housing Police station. “He conspired with the police to get rid of the body of Douglas in order to conceal his death.”

DPO’s story

When Niger Delta Voice visited the Federal Housing Police Station, the DPO, Mr. Mike Ezeweren opened up: “I got a call from one of my patrol officers, who said an armed robbery suspect was being brought in. “I called the control unit informing them that a suspect was apprehended at the Basin Authority area. When the patrol team came, I saw somebody at the back of the pick-up van and they brought him down.

“Under such circumstance, when a suspected armed robber is killed, we heave a sigh of relief because we refer to the deceased as minus one. They brought along with him some iron bender and a locally-made pistol and told me an angry mob seized him. The suspect was there with the mob. “He said he was in his compound, a twin flat, when he heard dog barking from the other end and that when he sought to find out why the dog was barking, he saw someone rushing out from the sitting room of the other flat.

“He said the suspect (Douglas) threatened him with the machete he was holding, but he retreated to his flat and brought out his double-barrelled gun with which he shot the suspect. “He said after the shooting, the suspect still managed to scale through the fence in a bid to escape but when people around heard the shout of thief, they responded and pursued him, brought him down and continued battering him before they even called the police.

Unknown victim!

“At that point, I sought to know the boy’s identity but nobody knew him in which case it was an unidentified corpse. I then told my men to take the statement from the suspect, who acted on self-defense, after which I contacted the health authorities to come and convey the corpse out of our premises. “The corpse was unidentified and besides I cannot raise N35,000 to deposit in the mortuary for an unidentified corpse. Under what sub-head will I even tag that money or do they expect me to use my salary? “It was that reason that made me to call the health authorities to go and dispose of it in their own way.”

Police know nothing about boyfriend/girlfriend affair

The DPO also said: “I do not know anything about this issue of girlfriend and boyfriend. The man said the boy came to rob in one of his flats with iron bar and threatened him with it. “Therefore, it was a case of robbery; it was even the mob that first said the man shot the boy and the man later confirmed that he actually shot the boy. “If there is anything in the matter, they should not face the police, they should face the man that shot him and the man is not on the run.”

On the hasty burial of Douglas, the DPO said: “Where do you expect me to keep the corpse when I do not have the financial backup to send the body to mortuary? We have health authority that we call upon at any time to dispose unidentified corpse. “Where they would have faulted me is if someone had come to identify the corpse and I still went ahead to the health authorities to bury the corpse. I did not follow the health authorities to where they took the corpse.

“We normally call them to come and dispose corpses, especially unidentified ones. At every point in this whole encounter, I communicated with the Commissioner of Police and also sent signals.”

Suspect warned deceased—Neighbour

A neighbour of the suspect told Niger Delta Voice that the suspect’s daughter, Mercy, and Douglas were friends and the suspect had warned Douglas a number of times to stop coming to his house before the tragedy. The neigbour said: “The man had warned the boy not to come near the daughter again, but the two of them could not keep away from each other and we hear that it was because of the relationship between the boy and the girl that the man decided to take that horrible action.

“On that fateful afternoon, we saw the man running after the boy, who was panting and running but the man caught up with him around the Basin Authority gate and shot him with a gun. “After shooting him, he called the police that he had shot an armed robber. All of us were running for our dear lives because the man is dangerous and everyone around knows him for that.”

Mother’s agony

Mrs. Ojugbo, however, bemoaned that the suspect was bragging in a cozy room at the police clinic, where police kept him, that nothing would happen to him.

Once again, Kogi State University is in the news for unpleasant reasons as lesbian sex videos involving students of the university recently emerged on the campus.
Some of the students involved are those of Economics and English Education departments.

The two students in one of the videos monitored by Vanguard, revealed how deep the culture of lesbianism had infiltrated the female hostels in the school.

One of the students is considering leaving the school to avoid possible stigmatization as the videos had gone viral.
A female student in the Department of Zoology who craved anonymity, told Vanguard that lesbianism was becoming a big issue in the university.

She said young, fresh undergraduates were lured into the immoral club as many of them do not know what was in it before joining the lesbian ring.
“Kogi State University is fast becoming the comfort zone for lesbians. Many Jambites are lured into the ring because they don’t even know what it is all about.

‘’What they do now is to relocate off-campus in order to enjoy the privacy needed for their illicit and immoral act. Once in it, it is so difficult to renounce because lesbians share a lot of gifts to keep victims in it.
‘’The authorities of this school may need to take drastic steps to restore the moral integrity and discipline for which we were known,” she said.

When Vanguard got in contact with one of the lesbians, she said she was lured into lesbianism in her first week on campus by a very wealthy 300 student.
She said she was not aware that their sex escapades were recorded, threatening to quit the university in order to save the integrity of her family.

“My attention was drawn to the video in circulation by one of my friends. When I watched it, I knew that was the end of my stay in this school.
‘’Many of my course mates already have the video, so it will be difficult for me to continue my academic programme because of possible stigmatization. I have brought shame to myself and my family,” she lamented.

Although the school authorities are yet to release an official statement on the scandal, sources close to the authorities said investigations into the issue of lesbianism among the students had commenced.

Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, will officially arrive the ancient town of Ife on Tuesday to commence his  coronation rites.

The Kingmakers and members of the Isoro are currently making preparations to receive him and commence the rites as soon as he arrives.

Meanwhile, the Giesi family have been celebrating the choice of one of their own since the news broke out this morning.

A graduate of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, Babatunde Fatai, who is about to begin the mandatory national youth service programme, said he posed as a genuine lover to defraud foreign women and men whom he met on dating sites.

Fatai, who has been arrested by the Oyo State Police command for various Internet crimes, including hacking into bank accounts of many people in and outside Nigeria, had once been arrested for robbery and arraigned in court but granted bail.

He was arrested with the sum of N2.4m by men of the command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad in his Ogbomosho hideout. Also in his possession were: a Honda CRV with number plate KWL 280 CN, a Nissan Altima car with number plate KJA 963 CA, a Ford saloon car with number plate KRD 837 DQ and a Toyota Camry saloon car with number plate LSR 418 DJ.

Fatai said he had been in the Internet fraud business for a long time but could not remember how much he had fraudulently collected from his victims.

He said, “It is not easy to do Internet fraud. It takes painstaking effort.

“At times, I would go to dating sites to woo both men and women. I would make sure they fall in love with me by regularly sending love and romantic messages and even calling them until I deceived them into giving me their account details.

“At times, I would send fake emails to bank customers making it look like it emanated from their banks. Then I would ask them to change their password, PIN or other bank account security details.

“They would be required to input the old and new, but as soon as I get the old password, I would use it to hack into their accounts, transfer the money to the person I’m dating abroad, who would later send it to me through another means,” he explained.

An Islamic cleric, Ali Mohammed, has confessed to killing a 32-year-old graduate of Business Administration, Olufunbi Lawal.

The suspect, who owed Olufunbi N32,000, said he killed the deceased in order to avoid paying the debt.

Mohammed said he arranged four other relatives, who killed him on Thursday on Olorunfemi Street, in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State.

He said, “He (Olufunbi) sold a motorcycle to me for N40, 000 last month and I gave him N8, 000 with a promise to pay up before the end of October. But he kept disturbing me to give him his balance. I delayed in paying because the motorcycle developed some faults that also gulped the money I was to use to pay him.

“On that fateful day, I invited some of my relatives. We killed him in order to stop him from disturbing me.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that Olufunbi, a graduate of a Lagos polytechnic, left his shop to meet Mohammed to collect the money the latter was owing him for a motorcycle he (Olufunbi) sold to him.

As the 32-year-old entered his friend’s house on Thursday night, he was grabbed by a gang of five men led by Mohammed.

The men reportedly tied a rope around his neck before slamming an iron bar on his head, thereby breaking his skull.

Not done, the men chopped off his fingers and slashed his neck with a cutlass.

PUNCH Metro learnt that his corpse was dragged down from the three-storey building and thrown onto the roadside, where it was found on Friday morning.

A resident and close friend of the victim, Funke Nuberu, explained that Olufunbi and Mohammed had been friends for more than four years.

She explained that when Olufunbi’s landlady started demanding rent, he decided to turn to his friend to offset his debt, but the suspect asked for more time.

She said, “Olufunbi had a shop where he sold provisions. Ali (Mohammed) is a security guard on the street; he was employed to guard a renovated building that had been put up for sale by an insurance company.

“Olufunbi’s shop is adjacent to Ali’s house on Olorunfemi Street.

“Olufunbi usually closed his shop around 10pm. But he got a call around 8pm on that fateful day and asked one of his friends to look after the shop and that he would soon return.

“Around 10pm, he was not back and the landlady wanted to lock the gate, so the person looking after the shop came to inform me that Olufunbi had not returned.”

Nuberu said efforts to reach him on his telephone were abortive as it was later discovered that his handset was left in the shop.

She said the call log on the telephone was checked and it turned out that Mohammed was the last person the victim called.

Mohammed, when challenged, denied knowing his friend’s whereabouts.

“We challenged him that he was the last person that Olufunbi spoke with on the phone but he said Olufunbi called his old telephone line,” Nuberu added.

It was learnt that the victim’s family members reported the case at the Oworonsoki Police Division.

Charles Shittu, who claimed to have watched over the victim’s shop on Thursday, said he was going to make a statement at the station when information filtered in that a corpse had been found on an adjoining street.

He said it was identified as the 32-year-old.

A resident, Solomon Paul, said the blood dripping from the corpse was traced to the second floor of the building where Mohammed worked as a security guard.

He said, “There was blood from the ground floor to the top floor, so his corpse must have been dragged down after he was killed. We saw the clothes Mohammed wore the previous day, stained with blood. There was also a rope, which was used to tie his neck. The keys to his shop were on the ground.

“We found a crowbar which they used to hit his head and a cutlass that they also used to kill him.”

Paul said some old blood stains were also in the house, suggesting that criminal activities had been going on for some time in the house.

Mohammed was said to be a reputed muezzin in a mosque in the community.

PUNCH Metro learnt that an irate mob that tore through the building descended heavily on Mohammed until he passed out.

The President of the Oworonshoki Youth Forum, Oluwasegun Somorin, who decried the murder, urged security operatives to bring the perpetrators of the crime to book.

The victim’s elder brother, Kazeem, said the family did not have the means to pursue the case, adding that only God could fight for them.

He said, “Olufunbi was very hardworking. He already had a piece of land in Ikorodu, but he put the project on hold because of his education. He also had a fiancée and they were planning their wedding.

“It is only God that can fight for us. His corpse has already been deposited in a mortuary.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, confirmed the incident, adding that two suspects had been arrested.
