The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has implemented the payment of the new minimum wage of N33,000 to corpers across the nation.
Several corps members serving tropped to social media to share screenshots of the credit alerts they received earlier in the day.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari announced the upward review of the minimum wage from N18,000 to N30,000 in 2019.

Contrary to reports making the rounds on social media about how the Pastor in charge of the Living Faith church, Bishop David Oyedepo was refused visa at the US embassy, the Church's spokesperson has come out to debunk the rumours.

Mainstream and online media spaces this morning were abuzz with the news that Bishop David Oyedepo was denied entry visa to the United States on Thursday, January 30, 2020. We wish to put it on record and categorically submit that this piece of information is NOT TRUE. At no time was the Bishop denied visa, nor did he create a scene at the US consulate in Lagos, as purported by some mainstream and online newspapers.

The Bishop renewed his visa, last year, without any initial denial or drama, or scene. The Bishop was NOT at the Embassy or Consulate yesterday or even anytime this year. Bishop has been in Canaanland all this week. The last time he applied for visa, which was last year, he was issued without delay.

We have been in touch with the US Embassy and they are as surprised as we are about this FAKE NEWS, which some media houses decided to spread.

We encourage the Nigerian media to always tow the line of due diligence before rushing to press and try to at least reach the church from time to time, whenever items try to pass through the rumour mill. Professionalism and wisdom require this so as to maintain integrity and make the media trusted in the society, particularly in this age that fake news has become The News.

Bishop Oyedepo is a good friend of the US government and has a very good relationship with US Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria. He is a social entrepreneur, who has touched so many lives in Nigeria, Africa, United States and all around the world.

Some commercial motorcycle operators on Friday took to the street to express their grievances over the recent decision of the state government to restrict their movement in some Local Government Areas, bridges, and highways in the state.

The operators which include majorly that of Gokada and Max.ng staged a peaceful protest from Oregun road to the state capital in Ikeja.

Bearing various placards, the protesters appealed to the state government to regulate their services and not restrict them from operating.

They lamented that the business is their only means of survival.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced earlier this week that the government would enforce the ban on motorcycles and tricycles in six local government areas, as well as major highways and bridges from February 1.

He explained that the decision was taken after a robust assessment of the debate on the rate of accidents in Lagos, saying security and safety of the lives of the residents were paramount.

He also warned that all offenders and violators would be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the state.

The World Health Organisation has identified 13 high- risk African countries for coronavirus .

They are Algeria, Angola , Ivory Coast , DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana , Kenya , Mauritius , Nigeria , South Africa, Tanzania , Uganda , and Zambia .

A statement from WHO said the identified African nations have direct links or a high volume of travel to China .

" WHO has identified 13 top priority countries ( Algeria, Angola , Cote d’ Ivoire , the Democratic Republic of the Congo , Ethiopia, Ghana , Kenya , Mauritius, Nigeria , South Africa , Tanzania , Uganda and Zambia ) which either have direct links or a high volume of travel to China .

" To ensure rapid detection of the novel coronavirus, it is important to have laboratories which can test samples and WHO is supporting countries to improve their testing capacity. Since this is a new virus , there are currently only two referral laboratories in the African region which have the reagents needed to conduct such tests.

" However , reagent kits are being shipped to more than 20 other countries in the region , so diagnostic capacity is expected to increase over the coming days . Active screening at airports has been established in a majority of these countries and while they will be WHO first areas of focus , the organization will support all countries in the region in their preparation efforts , ” the WHO said in a statement.

“It is critical that countries step up their readiness and in particular put in place effective screening mechanisms at airports and other major points of entry to ensure that the first cases are detected quickly, ” added WHO Regional Director for Africa , Dr. Matshidiso Moeti.

“The quicker countries can detect cases , the faster they will be able to contain an outbreak and ensure the novel coronavirus does not overwhelm health systems . ”

As yet , there are no confirmed cases of the potentially fatal virus on the African continent.
Ethiopian Minister of Health Lia Tadesse said four possible cases there have tested negative for 2019- nCoV , as has been the case elsewhere.

Angolan health minister SĂlvia Lutucuta reports a new suspected case there , while Sudanese authorities previously said they were investigating two possible coronavirus infections.

China’ s latest update on the coronavirus epidemic , issued at midnight Thursday , listed 213 fatalities with a new total of 9, 692 confirmed cases . There were 15, 238 suspected cases along with 113 , 579 close contacts under health monitoring , according to the National Health Commission.

WHO ’ s International Health Regulations Emergency Committee declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on Thursday .
The PHEIC is a designation for an “ extraordinary event” with the potential for international disease spread, one that requires immediate international action and coordinated response to reduce the global public health risk .

Here is a story I came across on Nairaland about a man who cheated on his fiancee with a neighbour.

Read below:

This might turn out to be a lengthy read, please bear with me. The bashing and insults will be unnecessary as i have already told myself hurtful things a thousand times over.

So i am 29 and have a girlfriend who’s 25 we are both graduates; she’s a nurse and i am a practicing engineer and we’ve been dating for 3+ years now and preparations are underway to tie the knot this year God willing. Something happened last year, she suggested i move to a bigger apartment so that we can start buying household items and everything necessary to start a home as we are looking to get married soon which we did; i got a bigger place, met her parents she met mine. In a nutshell everything seems to be going well, we even started a business together and set to take on the future together before the devil struck (i take blames for my actions as i am not overly religious)

Around June last year, i met a girl (very fine girl) in the new area i moved to, although i have been seeing the girl around but one day as i was driving in i saw her hiding somewhere close to my compound avoiding the rain with her friends so i took them in until the rain subsided we exchanged contacts and started texting on WhatsApp a few days later. And soon after we started having sex (protected sex), prior to that time i never cheated on my girlfriend.

The sex continued, up to 2 times a week sometimes 3 as it was relatively easy as she lived very close and my girlfriend only visits on the weekend and never sleeps out (she’s from a very good and wealthy family with proper moral upbringing). Most evenings when return from work conji just do me one kind i don cross street other times she calls until we became comfortable having unprotected sex

So late October 2019, the new girl (I’ll call her Lola) texted me that’s she’s not feeling too well and i asked her to visit the hospital to run a test to know what to treat. She came back with a pregnancy test result proving she’s already 3 weeks pregnant, i was sure it was mine but i didn’t panic as she had a bf and i have my gf we were just for the sex at least that’s what we told each other.

So i asked her to remove the pregnancy, but got the shocker when she said she’s never going to remove the pregnancy that she’s 27 and have no desire to marry me or stay with me but she’s going to have the child. Omo my heart flipped. I begged her for like 3 weeks until she got mad and stopped taking my calls, she even moved away from her apartment. So i texted her and arranged a meeting, we sat down and discussed at length but she was still bent on keeping it, i got furious and told her i am not ready to be part of the child’s life if she’s going through with it as i see no reason why she wants to have my child when she knows we are NEVER going to be together, that was when she said she had already told her family that i am not interested in the child and they support her to keep it and let the child bear their family name. I discussed the matter with two friends a boy and a girl and the asked me to let her have the child first.

One month passed fast forward to early December, Lola called 6 times i was so shocked. I couldn’t take her calls. She texted that she’s ready to terminate the pregnancy since i am wicked and unconcerned she rained all manner of derogatory words but i was only concern with her decision to let go. I called and we agreed to meet the following day, I skipped work that day and met with her and her elder sister and elder sister’s friend. The sister and her friend were so mean but i was unmoved; i don already fuckup and ready to take anything to let it all go away because the knowledge of things will destroy my girlfriend.

So Lola entered my vehicle and we drove out, on our way to the hospital for her to terminate the pregnancy plus treatment she’ll take afterwards and for the damages i have caused her. She’s going to need 150k from me, i was furious and told her i don’t have that kind of money talk less of handing it over to her for something like this (i sure don’t know what i cost but i know it’s not up to 50k). She said if i don’t give her what she want she’s going to have the baby and that i should be thankful that she’s coming up with this that if she had listen to her friends advices she would have moved to my house with all sort of troubles (she was right) but i didn’t give in just yet. I dropped her off and ask her to have the child that am not going to give her the money as i don’t have it (I get the money sha).

So two days passed, she called again and after many arguments we agreed at 100k, made her to sign a NDA not to bother me again and all, I transferred her the 100k that night, she confirmed receipt and promised to go with it the following morning and that was the last I have heard or seen or her since then, until 3 weeks ago when another of her sister called from Canada and was asking if i am Me, that she’s been seeking my contact for a while now that Lola friend had to steal the number Lola’s phone and pass it to her as Lola has been hiding my phone number from the rest of the family and she doesn’t know the arrangement i have had with her but i should know that she’s having the child, she just thought i should know that i have a child somewhere when the baby eventually drops.

Knowing fully well that i am a shitty person to have done something terrible to myself and my girlfriend and all our future plans because of cheap sex, but I’ll be a more terribly bad person to have knowledge of a child somewhere and not be in his/her life. I called Lola but she didn’t take i texted her about her sisters call she called back to know who called and was furious, she ended the call (I guess to call her sister back) and called back again in about 20mins and asked me not to ever call her line again. I replied her text she should tell her family not call me as well. I have dodged to her apartment building a coupe times but she’s not been around for weeks as i was made to believe.

So i bought a ring to engage my girl few weeks ago but had to hold first to see how things play out, i can’t go ahead and marry my girlfriend with this kind of secret untold; that will be wickedness from the pit of hell and i still don’t know how to break it to her, it will destroy her.

I jokingly painted a similar scenery to my girlfriend; her response was: she will not marry me because if she does she will kill me in my sleep. That everybody is expecting us to get married this year, she now have high respect from her family because of me and this kind of thing happens both of us will die. Omo fear catch me.

The Oyo State Command of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), have arrested a couple who allegedly tied their 10-year-old daughter Abibat, to a ceiling, burning her private part for stealing the sum of N3,000.

The father of the girl, Taofeek Olawale 41, an indigene of Ede, Osun State, said he was only trying to scare her with the fire as deterrence when the fire burnt her private part.

Parading the suspect and his wife, Romoke, on Monday in Ibadan, the commandant of the (NSCDC), Isikilu Akinsanya  told journalists that the arrest was part of the responsibility of the Anti-human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the NSCDC to save and protect the lives and property of Nigerians, as enshrined in the 2003 Act, amended 2007.

The Commandant, who was represented at the press conference by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Olusegun, alleged that Olawale, a carpenter residing in the Amuloko area of Ibadan and his wife tortured their daughter, Abibat, by tying the girl’s hand to the ceiling and putting fire under her until she confessed to the accusation of stealing N3,000 belonging to a neighbour, Rukayat Trimisiyu.

He further said that in the search for the money, the sum of N600 was found in Abibat’s bag, and the girl later brought the remaining N2,400 from where it was hidden in the house.

The NSCDC boss said Abibat was still recovering in the hospital from damage she suffered from the burns her father inflicted on her.

Olawale told journalists he was only attempting to scare his daughter and teach her some morals.

“It is the devil that is at work,” he said.

Romoke dissociated herself from the assault, saying she divorced from Olawale seven years ago and was somewhere else when she heard about the incident

A suspected internet scammer, Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri and his mother, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri, have been convicted on a four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence to the tune of $82, 570, about N29.9million.

PM news reports that Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, convicted the woman and her son and sentenced them to three years each in a correctional centre.

The judge found them guilty on all counts. But the sentences for each count would run concurrently. Justice Aneke further ordered that all the properties and monies recovered from the convicts be forfeited to the Federal Government and upon applications by the victims, restitution be made to them.

The convicts were arrested following a petition from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation(FBI) against Damilola Adeyeri and others now at large on an alleged case of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretence, money laundering and computer-related fraud.

Armed with the petition, the operatives of the Commission immediately swung into action and upon investigations found out that his mother was an accomplice in the crime.

Idi Musa, an investigator with the EFCC, while being led in evidence narrated to the court that sometime in April 2019, that the Commission received a petition from the FBI, alleging that the official email address of American Cranes Manufacturing company was hacked and as a result the sum of $82, 570. 00 was stolen by the fraudsters. He told the court that the petitioner reported that there was a syndicate of fraudsters who defrauded many companies through business email compromise and obtained millions of dollars from American citizens.

Idi further revealed that Damilola was arrested on September 6, 2019, after which his mother was apprehended when she went to withdraw money from the bank upon hearing that EFCC was investigating her son. He said Damilola’s mother bought properties in the name of her son with the money made from the fraud.

He also told the court that the sums stolen by the convicts were used to acquire properties in choice areas of Lagos, and some cash were found in their accounts.

One of the count reads:
“that you, Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri and Karen Russell (still at large) sometime on the 21st day of June 2017, in Lagos within the jurisdiction of the court conspired to fraudulently impersonate the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American Cranes Manufacturing Company with intent to gain monetary advantage in the sum of $82, 570. 00 (Eighty Two Thousand Five Hundred and Seventy US Dollars) and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (1) (b) and 22 (3) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition Prevention etc) ACT, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (1) of the same Act.”
Another count reads:
“That you Damilola Ahmed Adeyeri, Alaba Kareem Adeyeri and Karen Russell (still at large), sometime on the 19th day of July 2017, in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this court dishonestly represented yourself as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of American Cranes Manufacturing Company thereafter you sent an email from personal@managements-securemail-office-portal.online with intent to gain advantage to yourselves and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 27 (1) (a) and 22 (3) of the Cyber Crime (Prohibition Prevention etc) ACT, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (1) of the same Act”.

After the charges were read to the convicts, they pleaded guilty to the four-count charge of conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretences.

The Cheshire home of Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been attacked by a group chanting that he was "going to die".

A video posted on social media showed an individual throwing a red flare over a large gate, while others sang songs aimed at the 48-year-old.

Woodward, who is married with two young children, was not present at the time.

Manchester United said anyone committing a criminal offence or trespassing will be banned for life.

A club statement added: "Fans expressing opinion is one thing, criminal damage and intent to endanger life is another. There is simply no excuse for this.

"We know that the football world will unite behind us as we work with Greater Manchester Police to identify the perpetrators of this unwarranted attack."

Woodward has been the subject of growing supporter discontent at United in recent weeks.

Manchester United sit fifth in the Premier League - 33 points behind leaders Liverpool - and Woodward has been the target of blame by many fans.

Both at the recent home game against Burnley and Sunday's FA Cup victory over Tranmere, supporters have sung the same song about Woodward and made repeated calls for the club's owners, the Glazer family, to leave.

The incident is reminiscent of another attack, in 2004, on the car of then club director Maurice Watkins, whose shares ended up being bought by Malcolm Glazer as his bid for the club gathered pace.

Woodward advised Malcolm Glazer and the Glazer family during its successful takeover of the club in 2005 before being recruited as a senior member of staff.

Daniel Olukoya, the senior pastor of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, has denied claims that his church has the highest number of single ladies in Nigeria.

Olukoya said this while reacting to reports that he has banned members of his church from wedding Christians from other denominations.

In a statement released by his spokesperson Collins Edomaruse, Olukoya argued that for the past 10 years, his church through its singles programme, Gen 218, has conducted over 150,000 weddings and that he encourages his members to wed anyone either within or outside his church, as far as their intending spouse is a Christian.

The statement reads

“We encourage and actively support all spinsters and bachelors, regardless of denomination, to build their relationships on biblical standards. We strongly advise all our single men and women to marry fellow believers within the Christian faith. We believe this is God’s will for marriage and is the best foundation for a successful and a Godly marriage.

Dr Olukoya and MFM ministries have never stated that single men and women within this ministry should only marry within the ministry.

In the last decade, Gen 218 has provided training, teaching and guidance to thousands of single men and women across Nigeria, Africa and all around the world. To its credit, over 150,000 weddings have occured as a result of Gen 218 forums.

The false assumption that the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries has the largest number of female singles is baseless, erroneous and very misleading.

The MFM ministry has a distinctive and well structured youth movement. The youth and young adults of this ministry, under the leadership of the General Overseer, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the fields of academia, music and sports with laurels to back this up.” the statement read.

The Lagos State Government has banned the activities of motorcycle riders popularly known as Okada riders and tricycle riders in six Local Government Areas (LGAs), nine Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and 10 major highways across the State. Also banned are ride hailing services, OPay and GOkada.

The state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, who made the announcement at the State House in Alausa, said the measures were taken by the Government in response to “scary figures” of fatal accidents recorded from operations of Okada and tricycles in the State between 2016 and 2019. Omotoso said the lack of regard for the Lagos Traffic Laws by the Okada and tricycle riders had resulted in preventable loss of lives, adding that their impermissible movements on restricted highways had also contributed to traffic jams.

“The rate of crimes aided by Motorcycles (Okada) and Tricycles (Keke) keeps rising. Motorcycles (Okada) and Tricycles (Keke) are also used as getaway means by criminals.

“Therefore, after consultations with stakeholders, the State Security Council, in compliance with the extant Transport Sector Reform Law 2018, has decided to commence enforcement of the law which bans the operation of Motorcycles (Okada) and Tricycles (Keke) in the following Local Governments (LGs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs): Apapa LG and Apapa Iganmu LCDA; Lagos Mainland LG and Yaba LCDA; Surulere LG, Itire-Ikate and Coker-Aguda LCDAs; Ikeja LG, Onigbongbo and Ojodu LCDAs; Eti-Osa LG, Ikoyi-Obalende and Iru/Victoria Island LCDAs; Lagos Island LG and Lagos Island East LCDA,” he said.

Health authorities in Ivory Coast are investigating a suspected case of Wuhan coronavirus in a female student who arrived from China, officials have said.

The student, whom authorities have not named, is the first person to be tested for the virus on the continent, CNN reports.

The virus has killed at least 80 people in the mainland Chinese city of Wuhan.

The 34-year-old student traveled from Beijing to the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan on Saturday and was coughing, sneezing and experienced difficulty breathing, Ivory Coast's Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene said in statement.

The student was moved to a safe location upon arrival at the airport and is currently under medical observation, the ministry said.

Authorities believe it is highly likely a case of pneumonia and not coronavirus, but the final diagnosis will be made after the analysis of the results of the test, the ministry said.

Michel Yao, WHO Africa emergency response program manager, said the agency had advised health ministers in the region to activate standard flu screening at airports for passengers coming from mainland China.

More than 2700 coronavirus cases have been confirmed, prompting countries around the world, including Nigeria to shore up surveillance and screening at airports, especially for travelers arriving from Wuhan in China where the outbreak began in December.

Aviation authorities in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation, said airlines operating in its airspace should update crew members on how to handle sick passengers on board their aircrafts.

Pilots must report such cases to health officials on landing while also encouraging sick travelers to seek help before leaving the airport, Nigeria's Federal Airport Agency said in a statement.

Kenya, whose national carrier Kenya Airways, operates nonstop flights from Nairobi capital to Guangzhou, has also begun screening passengers arriving from China at its airport, according to local media.

Coronavirus are a large group of viruses that are common among animals, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In rare cases, they are what scientists call zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted from animals to humans. The viruses can make people sick, usually with a mild to moderate upper respiratory tract illness, similar to a common cold.

Symptoms include a runny nose, cough, sore throat, and infected persons may have headaches and maybe a fever, which can last for a couple of days.

The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on Monday, convicted and sentenced Maryam Sanda to death by hanging for the murder of her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Yusuf Halilu, held that there was circumstantial evidence coupled with her testimony and statement to the police that she "fatally" stabbed her husband to death in Abuja on November 19, 2017.

The judge ordered that she should be remanded in Suleja prison till she exhausts her right of appeal.

Her deceased husband has been variously reported as a son or nephew of a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Haliru Bello.

Sanda, the mother of two, her mother and other relatives broke down in tears immediately the judge pronounced her guilt.

Her mother, who was occupying a back seat, sped out of the court as she wept.

Sanda while crying rushed out of the courtroom which was next to the dock but the judge ordered that she should be brought back to the courtroom.

In the middle of the confusion, the defence lawyer attempted to make a plea for allocutus (plea for mercy) but the judge said he needed to rise for the courtroom to be restored to normalcy.

The judge said he would return to deliver the sentence after some minutes.

When the judge returned from the break, he said there would be no room for allocutus.

He said the offence for which the convict was convicted was based on Section 221 of the Penal Code.

"It has been said that thou shall not kill. Whoever kills in cold blood shall die in cold blood," the judge said.

"Maryam Sanda should reap what she has sown," he said, adding, "it is blood for blood"
