Our Mother Is Not A Witch-- Two Men Storms Police Station To Demand For Release Of Their Mother

I remember posting a story, as culled from the Vanguard newspaper, that a bird flying suddenly crash landed and transformed to an old woman in the Ajegunle area of Lagos. Passersby gathered and started insinuating the woman was a witch and attempted to lynch her, but thanks to the timely intervention of the Baale of Layeni and men of the police.

Well, two men, who identified themselves as children of the old woman alleged to have transformed from a bird into a human being, Wednesday, in the densely populated Ajegunle area of Lagos, yesterday went to Area 'B' Command, Apapa, to effect her release, declaring that their mother is not a witch.

Rather, the children with undisclosed identities expressed shock over the accusation, describing it as baseless.

They were said to have explained to policemen at the command that their mother lives with them at Iju-Ishaga area of Lagos but that apprehension set in following her disappearance.

While efforts to find her was on, the children said they were shocked to read about her alleged transformation from a bird into a human being in some national dailies yesterday.

According to Police sources,"they said they have never known their mother to be a witch and wondered why such rumour was spread about her.

"They said she left home without informing them of where she was going. They were, however, happy that the publication made it easy for them to locate her and also expressed joy that she was not lynched in the process."

The traditional ruler of Layeni, Baale Rafiu Olayemi, who stated emphatically that he did not believe the claim, told newsmen that he had to intervene during the panic and confusion by mobilising some of his loyalists to rescue
the woman from the surging crowd before contacting the Police at Layeni.
