Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr Jimi Agbaje, has promised the people of Ibeju-Lekki that he will return all illegally acquired lands in the area to its original owners if elected.
Agbaje made the pledge on Friday at a town hall meeting with the people of the area at the Eleko Beach Hall, Lagos.
The PDP governorship candidate also promised to pay compensation to those whose land were acquired for government projects, but were not compensated.
According to Agbaje, some of the land acquired were turned into private properties of some officials, including the ones designated as cemetery.
“Some of these lands were also acquired on the guise for industrialisation but ended up as private estates,” he said.
Speaking further, the PDP candidate also promised to take advantage of the aquatic nature of the area to turn their economy around, saying that, “this will translate into an ocean economy that will transform the lives of the indigenes.”
Agbaje expressed concern over failed promises by past administrations which he described as anti-people, and, consequently, pledged to create standard markets in the area to reduce the sufferings of the people whom he said had to travel miles to access modern markets.
