President Jonathan To Probe Minister Of Aviation Stella Oduah Over Purchase Of 'James Bond' Vehicles

The presidency yesterday stated that President Goodluck Jonathan would soon order relevant government agencies to investigate the acquisition of the controversial bulletproof vehicles for the Minister of Aviation, Ms Stella Oduah.

Saharareporters had reported that two controversial armoured vehicles worth $1.6m (about N225m) were said to have been delivered to Oduah in her Lekki Home in August by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. The online news medium had provided copies of the purchase invoice to back its report.

however, Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, told Punch that Ms. Oduah would soon be probed.

Gulak, said Jonathan would not take a hasty decision based on media reports, but on verifiable facts, which could only be achieved when relevant government agencies look into the matter.

He assured Nigerians that the President was on top of the situation.

Gulak, however, failed to disclose when the President would order the probe as well as the agencies that would probe the allegation.

"I can assure you that President Jonathan will not shield the Minister or any government official for that matter if he receives information that is true," he said.

"In this particular instance, the reports are in the media. But media reports are not enough to act on.

"The President is on top of the situation. He will direct appropriate authorities to investigate the matter.

"Anybody found wanting in terms of corruption or impunity, President Jonathan will not hesitate to show such person the way out of his government.

"The most important thing is that such decision must be based on facts as provided by appropriate government agencies that will investigate, not based on media reports."

Since the news went viral last week, many Nigerians have been calling for the head of the honourable Minister, saying that the cars were waste of public funds and she must be shown the exit door.
