United's fourth-place finish in Louis van Gaal's debut season leaves them facing a two-legged clash with the Belgian outfit, with the winners progressing to the group stage of the competition. The first leg will be at Old Trafford, with the return fixture taking place at the Jan Breydel Stadium.

Brugge qualified for the play-off round by beating Panathinaikos 4-2 on aggregate after going down to a 2-1 first-leg defeat.

Elsewhere, there will be notable ties between Lazio and Bayer Leverkusen, and Valencia and Monaco, while Scottish champions Celtic face Swedish counterparts Malmo.

First-leg matches will be played on August 18/19 with the resturn games on August 25/26.
