The families of the students of the Osun State University, who have been missing for the past 17 days, say they have resorted to prayers in order to find the undergraduates.
Mother of Samuel Eke, who gave her name simply as Mrs. Eke, said she believed that only God could locate her son, who she said was her only child.
Also, Henry Akinduro, the brother of Robert Akinduro, said the family had not given up hope, saying God would find Robert for the family.
Eke, who spoke on the telephone with our corespondent in Osogbo on Wednesday said she believed that Samuel and Robert were still alive.
The students, who are final year students at the Computer Science Department of UNIOSUN were preparing for their projects when they went missing.
They had told friends that they wanted to visit one Parise, but had not been seen since then.
Eke said, “ I went to the police headquarters and the man, who they went to see, was still in detention. I saw him there. He said he did not see them.
“I am not sleeping, I have not been sitting down and folding my hands; my brother and I have been praying. He is my only son and my only child. I don’t have any child apart from him, I am deeply troubled, but I believe God will bring him back home.
“They told us in some places we went to that Samuel and Robert are alive, but they are in a tight place and only God can release them. The university has also been helpful. The police are also trying.”
Henry, who also spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, said the family believed that God would bring back his brother and his friend alive.
He added that nobody had called to demand ransom from the family.
Henry said that he chatted with his brother until around 10.54pm when he went to meet Parise, who was assisting them to do their final year projects.
He said his brother and Parise started chatting around 8.pm on the day they got missing.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Osun State, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said the suspect was still with the police.
Odoro said, “The police have not released the suspect. How can we release the suspect when we have not seen the victims or got to the root of the matter?
“We are still carrying on with the investigation into the matter and we will not relent until we rescue the young men.”
She urged anybody with useful information on the whereabouts of the students to contact the police.
