Mesut Ozil's Father Slams Real Madrid President Florentino Perez Over Negative Comments

Mesut Ozil's father has slammed Florentino Perez, for allegedly leaking negative stories about his son, in order to pacify angry Real Madrid players and supporters, who have criticised him for selling the playmaker to Arsenal.

Spanish newspaper ABC, this week carried reports which claimed that Perez told senior Madrid members, that Ozil was allowed to leave because the club was fed up with his unprofessional behaviour off the pitch. The report said the Germany international had deviated from his Islamic faith and was socialising and womanising to the extent his performances have dropped.

The paper also accused Mustapha Ozil of leaking stories of interest from other clubs, after Madrid refused to raise his salary to €8.5 million a year.

"Just because someone earns a lot of money does not make them automatically a man of honour," Ozil senior told Bild. "And [Florentino] Perez is no man of honour. Mesut is made the scapegoat now. And I am the greedy father, who only waits for the big money. A put-up job, a bad business. We will defend ourselves legally."

A lot of observers in Madrid, saw the ABC story as a ploy by Madrid to defend themselves and Ozil senior insisted that it was the exact scenario.

"If Mesut leads such a dissipated life, as they always say, then I wonder: Why did he always play?," he said. "They want to talk Mesut down, because the fans and some team-mates are angry about his sale."

On shopping Mesut around to Premier League clubs, he said: "There is an agent in England who forged an authorisation with my signature in order to shop around Mesut in my name. "We have taken legal measures against this person. We will see this through."
