Pick Pocket Expert Sentenced In Lagos

A 22-year old man, Riliwan Jimoh, arrested and convicted for stealing has confessed before Magistrate M. B. Folami of the Ejigbo Magistrate Court that he had no
other work except picking pockets at various bus stops in Lagos, western Nigeria.

Jimoh said he had never learnt any work in his life and he started stealing at an early age and graduated to picking pockets which
he had been doing for over four years in Lagos.

Jimoh who hails from Ibadan in Oyo State told the court that he perfected the act of picking pockets and it will be difficult for
him to leave it because he had no other job.

He added that he had robbed many victims, and on a good day, he makes good money and steals handsets which he sells at give-away prices.

The court found him guilty and ordered him to be remanded in the Community Service Rehabilitation Centre where he would learn a profession for 18 months.

The prosecutor, Mr Olufemi Adeleye informed the court that Jimoh was a habitual criminal who confessed that he specialised in stealing.

He therefore asked the court to sentence him accordingly.
