In order to prevent current fuel scarcity, The Federal Government, yesterday, said it would pay MOWAN N156 billion, out of the about N256.2 billion the marketers claim is owed to them in subsidy claims.

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala made this statement at the World Customs Day event held in Abuja yesterday, expressed optimism that the payment, which is expected to be made today, will help address the current fuel scarcity plaguing the country. According to her, the Federal Government is committed to ending the fuel scarcity within the shortest time and that despite the revenue challenges facing the government, the issue of fuel subsidy payments to oil marketers remain a huge priority.

She stated further that "We have been engaging oil marketers over the scarcity issue. We paid them N350 billion and N31 billion in the foreign exchange differential in December. "Tomorrow (which is today), we will be paying them N100 billion for which we had earlier given them IOUs, and interest rate differentials of N56 billion. I am about to sign to get that paid and I think Nigerians will agree that the government is making good effort to accommodate the oil marketers.

They are also Nigerians and they also need to co-operate with us".

The Minister of Information, Patricia Akwashiki, stated that the incoming administration of Gen Muhammodu Buhari will not inherit fuel scarcity immediately because the country has enough fuel in its reserves for almost 1 month, 27 days to be precise.

She said "I want to assure that we have enough fuel to supply and the problem is not that we do not have fuel on ground. We have a problem with the tanker drivers and that has to do with the non-payment of fuel subsidy claims But from tomorrow (which is today), the Coordinating Minister of economy is going to start paying off some of the liabilities we have in that sector and it will ease off,''.

There was confusion at the Ojodu Berger Motor Park area of Lagos on Wednesday after drivers and passengers found a commercial driver dead inside his bus.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the deceased, only known by a nickname, Big Daddy, had slept overnight inside the bus, only to be found dead on Wednesday.

Our correspondent learnt that the driver, who hailed from Odogbolu, Ogun State, lived in the Ikorodu area of Lagos with his family.

It was gathered that the matter was reported to the Ojodu Abiodun Police Division which later sent officers to remove the corpse.

When PUNCH Metro got to the park, a member of the executive of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, who declined to be named, said the driver might have been killed by depression resulting from a debt burden.

He said, "It is not the first time that commercial drivers would sleep overnight in their buses in this park, especially those who come from distant places like Ikorodu, Lagos Island and so on. Big Daddy plied daily between the Ojodu Berger and Oshodi areas.

"When he finished work at about 10pm, he complained that he was feeling very weak.

He bought a bag of sachet water and emptied them on his body. It was just this morning that I was called on the phone that he died inside his bus.

"The only thing I know is that he had a debt on his neck. He was paying back the money he borrowed to purchase the bus in installments. The bus recently developed faults. His wife and only son, Sunday, stay in Ikorodu, and have been informed about his death."

A driver in the park, who gave his name simply as Babatunde, added that the radio which the deceased was listening to still blared when he was found dead.

He said, "We switched off the radio. I have never seen such a strange death. His first wife died about nine months ago, and he recently remarried. He died while sleeping on the steering. He was wearing only his underwear. He was a gentleman. It was shocking he died suddenly like that."

PUNCH Metro observed as drivers, food sellers and workers in the park discussed the incident with one another.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said he would get back to our correspondent on the matter. He, however, had yet to do so as of press time.

A 35-year-old graduate of law, Imoh Sunday, is currently facing charges of forgery, stealing and impersonation at the Tinubu Magistrates' Court, Lagos State.

He was accused of diverting a sum of N1.9m belonging to the Red Star Courier Service.

Sunday had told the police that he graduated in 2009 and claimed to have been called to bar.

He was arraigned for impersonation and forgery after it was discovered that he used a cloned law school certificate as part of bail conditions for the initial charges that brought him to the court on February 27.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Sunday's wife, Chikodi, who works for the courier firm, had given him the money piecemeal between March 2014 and January 2015 for deposit at the First Bank Plc, used by the firm.

It was learnt that the sum was payment made by customers of the firm.

Our correspondent gathered that the management of the courier service reported the case at the Lion Building Police Station when they could not access the funds and Sunday was arrested.

The police said investigations revealed that the indigene of Impat Enim in Akwa Ibom State, stamped the deposit slips of the bank with a forged stamp he allegedly obtained at the Oluwole area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspect was taken to the bank, where it was proved that there was no record that he deposited the money. He was later brought before the magistrate, Mrs. O.M. Ajayi, on two counts of forgery and stealing.

Sunday, however, pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Our correspondent learnt that the forged certificate was discovered while the defence counsel, J.J. Ozemhoya, was making efforts to perfect his client's bail. Ozemhoya subsequently wrote the court, indicating his withdrawal from the matter after the discovery.
The letter read in part, "Upon the processing of the defendant's bail, we requested that the wife attach his Call-to-Bar Certificate to proof and lend credence to our earlier application. The defendant's wife brought photocopies of the said documents. The court suspected that the certificate was forged. I personally investigated and checked all the NBA sites and portals, but could not find the defendant's name.

"Since I have a duty to protect the Bar and the court and the entire society, I have to formally write to note this while I withdraw from the case to avoid name smearing."

During the second arraignment, the defendant equally pleaded not guilty to the two counts of impersonation and forgery preferred against him by the police.

The charges read in part, "That you, Imoh Sunday, on November 15, 2010 in Lagos Magisterial District, did forge certificate of Call-to-Bar of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 363 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State."

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Salama Matepo, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that the defendant should be remanded in custody pending the perfection of his bail.

While the first case was adjourned till May 6, 2015, the impersonation case would come up on May 13, 2015.

Two men, Gabriel Obi and Ugwu Geofrey, have been arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos for allegedly importing 110 kilogrammes of cocaine.
The accused were arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on two counts bordering on drug trafficking.

According to the prosecutor, Mrs. Ahaji Obiageri, the suspects conspired with one Chimezie Akunna, who is now at large, to commit the offence.
The accused were said to have been apprehended by the NDLEA men in January 2011 at the Tin-Can Port, Lagos.

They were said to have packaged the illegal substance inside a container and brought it into Nigeria from Bolivia.

The charge read in part, "That you, Gabriel Obi, Ugwu Geofrey and Akunna Chimezie, on or about January, 13, 2011, at the Tin-Can Port, Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, without lawful authority, imported 110 kg of cocaine from Bolivia, South America, using a container ─ MSCU 3668026 ─ thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 11(a) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30, Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004."

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The court adjourned the trial till June 24, 2015.

The Federal Government has asked for the return of the corpses of 4 Nigerians executed in Indonesia following drug related offences yesterday April 28th.

In a statement released by the Public Communications Division of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, FG condemned their execution and condoled with their families.

"The Federal Government of Nigeria has received with deep disappointment, news of the execution of four Nigerians, Messrs Martin Anderson, Okwudili Oyatanze, Jaminu Abashin and Sylvester Obiekwe by the government of Indonesia for drug-related offences.

These executions have taken place despite spirited pleas for clemency made at the highest level by President Goodluck Jonathan, and more recently Ambassador Aminu Wali, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on April 21, during the 10th Anniversary of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership Summit, which took place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Federal Government wishes to express its condolences to the families of the deceased. It has asked the Indonesian Government for the repatriation of the remains of the executed persons, so that they can be accorded decent burial in their various communities.

The Federal Government seizes this opportunity to once again, warn all Nigerians to desist from drug trafficking and other offences that attract maximum punishment in several countries of the world.

The Federal Government will continue to promote the welfare and protect the lives of Nigerians abroad, no matter their circumstances.

Furthermore, government is committed to engage the government of Indonesia and other friendly countries regarding the conclusion of Prisoner Transfer Agreements and other bilateral means of safeguarding the interest and welfare of Nigerians."the statement read.

The German automaker announced it has created the first batch of liquid "e-diesel" at a research facility in Dresden.

The clear fuel is produced through a "power to liquid" process, masterminded by the German clean tech company and Audi partner Sunfire.

The process uses carbon dioxide, the most common greenhouse gas, which can be captured directly from air.

Carbon dioxide is created largely by burning fossil fuels and contributes to global warming. Now Sunfire said it can recycle the gas to make a more efficient, carbon-neutral fuel.

Unlike conventional fossil fuels, the "e-diesel" doesn't contain sulphur and other contaminants. "The engine runs quieter and fewer pollutants are being created," Sunfire's Christian von Olshausen said.

The fuel is produced in three steps. First, the researchers heat up steam to very high temperatures to break it down into hydrogen and oxygen. This process requires temperatures of over 800 degrees Celsius (1,472 Fahrenheit) and is powered by green energy such as solar or wind power. Audi said using that's is more efficient than conventional techniques.

Second, they mix the hydrogen with carbon dioxide under pressure and at high temperature to create so-called blue crude. Lastly, the blue crude is refined into fuels in a similar way fossil crude oil is refined into gasoline.

Audi ( ) said its lab tests have shown the "e-diesel" can be mixed with fossil fuels or used as a fuel on its own.

The new fuel was tested by German Education and Research minister Johanna Wanka last week. She put the first five liters into her official car, and declared the project a success.

"If we can make widespread use of CO2 as a raw material, we will make a crucial contribution to climate protection and the efficient use of resources, and put the fundamentals of the green economy in place," she said.

Sunfire said its plant is set to produce more than 3,000 litres of the "e-diesel" over the coming months. The company said it was aiming for a pre-tax price of between 1 and 1.20 euros per liter ($1.10 to $1.30), compared to the current German pre-tax price of around 0.6 euros per liter of gasoline.

After fourteen years and five failed attempts to sell the Nigerian Telecommunications Limited, the Federal Government on Tuesday finally handed over the beleaguered first national telecommunications company to new core investor, NATCOM Consortium.

At a ceremony attended by notable persons in the privatisation circle, the Bureau of Public Enterprises handed over instruments of ownership and licences of operation to the Chairman of the NATCOM Consortium, Mr. Tunde Ayeni, who said over $1bn was required to revive the company.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Namadi Sambo, who chairs the National Council on Privatisation said the formal handover was a clear indication that where there is focus and determination, there is a way.

Sambo who was represented by a member of the technical committee of NCP, Mr. Emmanuel Amadi, listed the several failures in the past and added that the success at this time was a reflection of the determination of the NCP and the BPE to increase competition in the telecommunications industry.

He said, "It was the realisation that Nigeria will not attain the desired economic growth without adequate reforms and liberalisation of the telecommunications sector that informed commencement of the telecoms sector reforms in 2001.

"These led to the attempted privatisation of NITEL and M-Tel through strategic/core investor sale to Investors International London Limited.

Unfortunately, that flagship transaction failed as the preferred bidder could not meet the deadline for the payment of the purchase consideration."

He continued, "Failure of first strategic investor sale led to the execution of a management contract with Pentascope in 2005. The management contract did not improve the operational and financial position of NITEL and M-Tel and was terminated.

"Orascom Telecoms emerged the highest bidder with $256m during the second privatisation attempt. Its bid was however rejected by the Federal Government as it was below the reserve price."

NCP in 2006 adopted the 'willing buyer-willing seller' strategy. The strategy which threw up Transnational Corporation as the core investor was adopted to shorten the transaction period since the financial position of NITEL was deteriorating.

Following the inability of Transcorp to turn around the fortunes of NITEL, the NCP on June 1, 2009 revoked the sale of the telecommunications company and its mobile subsidiary.

In another strategic/core investor sale in 2011, both New Generation Communications Limited and Omen International Limited that emerged preferred and reserve bidders could not pay the purchase price and the transaction had to be cancelled again.

Consequently, NCP approved the privatisation of NITEL and M-Tel through guided liquidation. It also on November 11, 2013 approved the appointment of Chief Olutola Senbore as the liquidator of NITEL/M-Tel.

At the financial bid opening on December 3, 2014, NATCOM emerged the preferred bidder with an offer of $252.25m bid price.

NATTAG which had been prequalified by BPE to participate in the process was disqualified as a result of the failure of the company to include a $10m bid bond as had been prescribed in Request for Proposal document.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Ayeni said immense gaps and opportunities still exist in the Nigerian telecommunications market despite the competition in the industry.

According to him, with a good team of investors and management, NATCOM was ready to make the difference required to succeed. He indicated that the company would roll out services soon after rebranding.

The senate on Tuesday approved the 2015 budget of N4.493 trillion, which is less than the 2014 budget of N4.695 trillion by about N200 billion.

A copy of the 2015 budget seen by TheCable showed that there was no provision for fuel subsidy in it. However, 21 billion was budgeted for the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P).

This may mean an end to the controversial subsidy on petrol, and may also mean that government will be unable to pay oil marketers who may want to stop importing fuel, thereby causing scarcity of the product in the country.

According to senator who would not want to be quoted, the government did not make provision for fuel subsidy in the 2015 budget, hence the national assembly passed the 4.4 trillion budget without considering it.

Speaking to journalists at the national assembly complex on Tuesday, Ahmed Maccido, chairman senate committee on appropriation and finance, said it was left for President Jonathan to sign the budget into law and start implementing until May 29.

"If the president can assent to the budget he can start implementing until May 29," he said.

He also said the government was capable of financing the budget as measures had been taken to plug leakages.

The figure approved by the senate is higher than the N4.3 trillion initially presented by the federal government in December 2014 through Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, to the national assembly.

A breakdown shows that the presidential amnesty programme will gulp N63.2 billion, while N23.6 billion will go to 30, 000 Niger Delta ex–militants, N5.5 billion to operational cost, and N34.1 billion to reintegration of transformed ex-militants.

It allocates N375 billion for statutory transfers, N953 billion for debt service, N2.607 trillion for recurrent (non-debt) expenditure, and N556 billion (inclusive of N144 billion capital expenditure in statutory transfers) for "contribution to the development fund for capital expenditure for the year ending on December 31, 2015″.

According to Ahmed Maccido, chairman of the joint committee on appropriations and finance, the oil benchmark for 2015 budget was pegged at $53 per barrel while the foreign exchange rate was put at N190 to $1.

He urged the senate to approve the budget, having given it a thorough perusal.

Last week, the federal house of representatives passed the 2015 budget with a similar breakdown.

In the recurrent expenditure, the presidency will receive N20 billion, office of the secretary to the government of federation will receive N48 billion, while defence (ministry of defence, army, air force, navy) will receive N338 billion.

Also in the recurrent budget, ministries of foreign affairs, finance, health and education will receive, N41 billion, N12 billion, N237 billion and N392 billion, respectively.

Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDA) National Population Commission, Federal Civil service Commission, Federal Character Commission and Police Service Commission will receive N5 billion, N1 billion, N2 billion and N740 million, respectively.

Regarding capital expenditure, the presidency will receive N4 billion, office of the secretary to the government will receive N9 billion, while defence (ministry of defence/army/air force, navy) will receive N36 billion.

The budget also shows that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will receive N13 billion, while entitlements of former presidents, heads of state, vice presidents and chiefs of general staff will gulp N2.3 billion.

Indonesia has executed 8 of the 9 people convicted for drug offenses. The men all pictured above were taken to a jungle clearing on the island Nusakambangan according to local media reports and were executed at midnight Indonesia time by 12 police privates (that would be about 6pm Nigerian time).

The only woman amongst them, Mary Jane Fiesta Veloso, was spared last minute after new information emerged about her case.

A woman who reportedly tricked her into carrying drugs turned herself in earlier today.

The bodies of the men will be taken by road to Jakarta later today.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has revealed plans to rename some major streets and road in the FCT after some prominent Nigerians.

In a statement released today April 27th by his spokesperson, Nosike Ogbuenyi, the ministersaid those to be honored with street names include President Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President, late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, former Speaker of House of Representatives and Katsina State Governor-elect, Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Dahiru Musdapha, Business moguls, Femi Otedola, Aliko Dangote and several others.

The statement stated that soon-to-be commissioned Inner Southern Expressway which dissects Abuja city centre was named after President Jonathan while the longest Wuye district boulevard express road measuring 1,730 metres was named after former VP Atiku Abubakar.

Prominent personalities to be honoured by naming streets after them in the Asokoro extension district include former Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Anan, South African anti-Apartheid activist, late Walter Sisulu, former President of Sudan, Gaafar al-Nimeiry, former Minister of State for FCT, late Prof. Miriam Ikejiani-Clark, former Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi and 16 others.

A two-year-old toddler, Precious (pseudonym) has been raped by one Azeez Ganiyu, after she was abducted from her residence on Giwa Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos State.

The incident happened on April 16 at about 10am after the victim's mother left her in a room with a neighbour to buy food at a nearby shop.

Our correspondent gathered that 16-year-old Ganiyu abducted the girl when she walked outside to play with other children.

He reportedly took her to an uncompleted building, said to be a few kilometers away from the victim parents' house, and raped her.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Precious' mother and neighbours were thrown into confusion when they did not see the girl in the surroundings.

After minutes of fruitless search, it was learnt that the mother suddenly heard a baby screaming and traced the voice to the uncompleted building, where she allegedly met Ganiyu committing the crime.

Precious was said to have been taken to a hospital where it was medically confirmed that she had been raped.

Our correspondent learnt that the suspect, who also resides in the community, was later arrested by the police at the Ijora Badia Police Division.

The police subsequently arraigned Ganiyu before an Apapa Magistrate's Court on one count of rape.

The charge read, "That you, Azeez Abdulganiyu (16), on April 16, 2015, at about 10am on Giwa Street, Ijora Badia, Lagos in the Apapa Magisterial District, did unlawfully have carnal knowledge of a two-year-old girl."

The police prosecutor, Inspector Olusoji Ojaokomo, told the court that the offence contravened provisions of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty before the presiding magistrate, Mr. P.A. Adekomaya.

The magistrate thus ordered that the defendant's case file be transferred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Adekomaya thereafter granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the court.

A 45-year-old commercial driver, Saturday Akpomose, narrowly escaped death last Saturday, after he was attacked by seven dogs at Ajah area of Lagos State. The timely intervention of residents and passers-by saved the driver from the dogs.

Akpomose, who hails from Akwa Ibom State, had gone to the area with his wife to visit his in-law, Mr. Christian Peter, when the dogs pounced on him.
Vanguard gathered that the dogs, owned by a Navy Captain, were being taken out to ease themselves at a nearby uncompleted building, when they saw Akpomose and pounced on him.

The matter was reported at Ogombo Police Division, which referred Akpomose to the General Hospital at Akodo, for immediate treatment due to the severity of his injuries.





His story

When Vanguard visited the victim in the hospital, he said: "My wife and I went to visit my in-law on Sunday. He lives at Okun Ajah Road, in Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area. Later, on Tuesday morning, I just strolled out of the compound and came across the dogs.

"As I stepped out, I saw a security man coming out with several dogs. They were very huge Alsatian dogs. I was terrified when I saw them and as I tried to go back in, they overpowered the man holding them.
"As I bent down to pick a stone and scare them away, they pounced on me and that was all I knew. They bit me in almost all parts of my body. As I screamed, some residents came out and tried to scare away the dogs with sticks.

"My screams even woke up my in-law who was asleep in the house. At a time, I became weak and unconscious and it was the people who rushed me to the hospital."



Dogs' owner intervenes

When Vanguard visited the residence of the dogs' owner, the Chief Security Officer attached to the building, who identified himself simply as Victor, said: "Immediately I got back home, I explained his condition to my boss who directed me to see his family and take a decision on how to transfer the victim to his own private hospital for proper medical attention.

"We have bought all the drugs they asked us to buy. We are showing the receipt to you just to let you know that we care about the victim."

Popular TV/Radio personality, Naana De Souza has died. She died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana on April 20th after a 6 year battle with cancer.

Naana worked as a colunmist for Punch, City People and several other newspapers and magazines.

She also worked with Silverbird TV where she helped organize many MBGN pageants.

She will be buried on June 5th in Accra. A service of songs will be organized for her in Lagos on June 10th. She is survived by her husband Magnus De Souza and four children.

May her soul rest in peace, Amen.

Ondo State Deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi has been impeached by members of the State House of Assembly this morning April 27th. 22 out of the 26 lawmakers supported the motion for his impeachment which was moved by the majority leader Ifedayo Akinsoyinu from Ondo West 11 and seconded by Olatunji Dauro from Owo 11.

The deputy governor has been directed to vacate the government lodge and return all government property in his possession to the permanent secretary in his office.

Precious Nwaigwe, the 15-year-old girl kidnapped in the Ajah area of Lagos State, while on her way to school in Ogun State, has been returned to Lagos about a year after her abduction.

PUNCH Metro learnt that detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, together with men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, rescued the girl.

She was said to have been dropped off in the Obalende area of Lagos State on Friday.
Our correspondent had exclusively reported on January 27, 2015, that Precious had come to Lagos from her school to spend the holiday with her father in the Ajah area of the state.

Her father, Okoro, had told our correspondent that he took her to the Sangotedo Motor Park when it was time for her to go back to school.

He said he bid his daughter farewell on the fateful day, May 24, 2014, without knowing the vehicle she boarded was owned by kidnappers.

It was reported that a few weeks after the journey, the Nwaigwes got a call from Precious's school, Ikenne Community College, Ikenne, Ogun State, that she had yet to arrive in the school.

They were said to have reported to policemen from the Ajah division.

It was reported that about two months after the kidnap, the victim's parents got a call from the kidnappers in the Niger Republic, who demanded a ransom of $100,000.

In a follow-up report, our correspondent reported that the kidnappers threatened to make Precious work for the ransom, if it was not paid.

Our correspondent later reported that Precious had been sold to a pimp, who told her parents that "it is just business".

The victim's father had expressed helplessness and frustration, saying the family had become bankrupt from spending much without getting any result.

The case had been transferred from the Ajah Police Division to the SCID, where a number of arrests were made.

The matter was later taken over by SARS, where it was discovered that the victim had been sold to Libya.
It was also didcovered that a relative of the girl was involved in the kidnap.

Our correspondent learnt that one of the suspects, Kelvin Kizito, opened up to the police after undergoing a series of interrogations.

The source said, "This Kelvin had been arrested for some time now, and he had been reluctant to release information.

"But he was made to undergo some serious interrogations and drillings, and afterwards, he said he should be allowed access to a phone.

"When he was given the phone, he called one of his people and told them to release the girl because the game was up.
"The girl was released from Libya and on Friday she arrived in Lagos. She was dropped off at Obalende."

Precious' father confirmed that his daughter had been found.
He said, "Yes, she's been found. I am just leaving the village and coming to Lagos as well. I will give you some more details later."

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Kenneth Nwosu, said he would get back to our correspondent, but had yet to do so as of press time.

President-Elect Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said his administration would probe the claim by a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and now the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation failed to remit $20bn oil money to the federation account.
Buhari gave the hint while receiving a delegation of the All Progressives Congress elected officials and supporters from Adamawa State at his campaign office in Abuja.
The President-elect, who spoke in Hausa expressed surprise that instead of probing the allegations by the former CBN governor, the Goodluck Jonathan-led Peoples Democratic Party administration chose to fire him.
He stated that since Sanusi's claim was documented, his administration would take a look at it after the May 29 handover date.
Buhari said, "On the issue of corruption, I heard that some people have started returning money. I will not believe it until I see for myself.
"You all remember what the Emir of Kano talked about when he was the governor of the CBN. He said $20bn not N20bn was unaccounted for; they said it was a lie. Instead of investigating it, they sacked him. And God in his infinite mercy made him the Emir of Kano. In any case, that is what he wanted. And since this was documented, our administration will take a look at it."
A management and accounting consultancy firm, PriceWaterHouse, was last year hired by the Federal Government to carry out a forensic audit of the NNPC following Sanusi's allegation.
Sanusi had written a letter to Jonathan in September 2013 that $49bn was not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC.
But following the controversy generated by the letter, a committee was set up by the government to reconcile the accounts of the corporation.
Sanusi later recanted and said the unremitted fund was $12bn. He later changed the figure to $20bn.
PwC, in its report stated that while the total gross revenues generated from crude oil liftings amounted to $69.34bn between January 2012 and July 2013 and not $67bn as earlier stated by the Senate Reconciliation Committee, what was remitted to the federation account was $50.81bn and not $47bn.
Within the $69.34bn, the audit report revealed that $28.22bn was the value of domestic crude oil allocated to NNPC, adding that the total amount spent on subsidy for Premium Motor Spirit amounted to $5.32bn.
The PwC report read in part, "Signature bonus, Petroleum Profit Tax and Royalty yet to be paid by NPDC is $2.22bn. Total cash remitted into the federation accounts in relation to crude oil liftings was $50.81bn and not $47bn as earlier stated by the Senate Reconciliation Committee for the period January 2012 to July 2013.
"Based on the information available to PwC, and from the above analysis, the firm submitted that NNPC and NPDC should refund to the federation accounts a minimum of $1.48bn."
Last week, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, disclosed that the NNPC had started refunding the unremitted $1.48bn into the federation account.
But while expressing gratitude to the visiting delegation, Buhari said his administration would work in tandem with the manifesto of the APC.
He listed priority areas to include security of lives and property, the economy and job creation as well as the war against corruption.
On the issue of security, he described the menace of Boko Haram as purely the evil of terrorism which has no link to religion.
Buhari said, " We thank God that it is now evident that this problem of Boko Haram is not a religious problem. It is purely terrorism. I said it earlier that all the religions we practise,especially Islam and Christianity, do not support terrorism.
"So,anyone who goes and kills people in the mosque, church, market, motor park or school either does not know what Allahuakbar (God is great) means or does not believe in it. This is terrorism. It is our hope that God gives us the power to end this."
The former Head of State said that unemployment must be urgently tackled because it constituted a threat to Nigeria's survival.
He explained that from his campaign stops in 35 out of the nation's 36 states, the sheer number of jobless youths they saw signposted clearly that there was a serious crisis at hand.
Buhari said, "From the airports to the streets, we saw youths running after our vehicles sweating. Some were walking the whole distance to wherever we were driving to. Whether they went to school or did not go to school, it was evident that they don't have jobs. This is one of the biggest problems we have in Nigeria today.
"Most of our youths,who form 60 per cent of our population in Nigeria are without jobs. These people who are still bubbling with energy will constitute a danger to this nation if they don't get jobs."
The President-elect took a swipe at the outgoing Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government for ''inflicting a lot of pains on Nigerians with its misrule.''
He however said that the military deserved commendation for regaining many territories it hitherto lost to Boko Haram in the North-East.
Buhari said, "Among the worst atrocities committed against Nigeria by the PDP is what it has done to our military.
"It is our military that went to Burma; the same army that when I was commissioned second lieutenant, I did not spend three weeks before I found myself in Kinshasa (in Congo), then (the civil war) in Nigeria and Sierra Leone and did well. Now to say Nigerian soldiers failed to retake 14 local government areas out of 774 is unbelievable.
"For me who served in the military, I find it incomprehensible except if I go there to find out what happened. The kind of leadership brought upon us by the PDP whether it is documented or not, it can never be forgotten in our history."
Buhari also decried the attitude of some Nigerian elite to the suffering of the masses.
He noted that Some of them "have built houses outside their states so that when trouble starts, they don't even bother to take their bags before fleeing on Achaba (motorcycle).''
Buhari lamented the fate of some Nigerians from the North-East who "do not know where their parents and children are because their houses have been burnt in cities like Bama, Michika, Mubi, Madagali and other places " by Boko Haram insurgents.
The President-elect appealed to members of the legislature at the federal and state levels to give attention to matters that would benefit the nation and its people in all their deliberations.
He promised that the incoming APC-led Federal administration was determined to ensure that roads, schools and hospitals were built and made functional.
Buhari described Adamawa State as one of the few states in the North- East which still has arable land.
This, he said, was unlike his home state of Katsina where desertification has condemned a lot of people without formal education to a life of servitude.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and governor-elect of Adamawa State, Jibrilla Bindow, appealed to the President-Elect to help the state rebuild its institutions and reduce poverty and youth unemployment.

Temitope Adebamiro, 35, a Nigerian, has been charged with killing her husband, Adeyinka Adebamiro, 37, over infidelity claims. The culprit told New Castle County police that her husband cheated severally on her, including with her sister and their nanny’s daughter. She, however, did not own to the crime, initially claiming her husband stabbed himself. Following a distress call from the couple’s 1300 block of Healy Court home early Thursday, the police said they found Adeyinka in a pool of blood and a knife pierced into his neck.
Adeyinka died some hours after then.
Temitope told investigators her husband had been cheating on her with various women and had ordered her back to Nigeria multiple times to enable him time to frolic.
Temitope, with whom Adeyinka had two children, explained they had been married for more than 10 years, during which time she told investigators that he’d physically abused her, even while pregnant with their children.
She said her husband sent her to Nigeria for several months, and upon her return in December, she had to stay in a hotel near the Philadelphia airport for four days because her husband refused to let her into their Red Lion home. He, later, paid for her to fly back to Nigeria for a few more months, and about this time, she learned that her husband had spent Christmas with the nanny’s daughter.

The husband later flew out to Nigeria and flew back with her to Philadelphia. As he showed her the cameras inside their home over his cellphone, Temitope saw the nanny’s daughter inside the home.
At one point, Temitope saw several texts and images in her husband’s phone, which she took pictures of using her cellphone. Some of the pictures included images of her sister and the nanny’s daughter.
Temitope said an argument ensued between them after he discovered the photos she’d taken on her cellphone and he began erasing them.
As he yelled at her, Temitope told police there was a power outage at which time she went to the kitchen until power returned. Investigators checked with Delmarva Power, which indicated no such power outage occurred at that time, police said.
Temitope then told police that when the power returned, she found her husband in the first-floor bedroom lying in the bed. As she got closer to him, she saw a knife on the ground which she picked up and took to the kitchen. As she put it away, she noticed blood on the tip and that’s when she realized that he was stabbed
Temitope has been charged with first-degree murder and other charges, arraigned and committed to the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution where she is being held without bail.

jonathanPresident Goodluck Jonathan lost the last presidential election due to the overbearing attitude of the First Lady, Patience Jonathan. This is according to the Bayelsa State publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Osom Makbere. He also told Punch in an interview that international and domestic conspiracies were also part of the reasons Jonathan lost to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, even as he further blamed the division within the party circles as another reason for Jonathan’s ouster.
According to Makbere, “History has stated that no failure, defeat or loss is a product of a single factor. Jonathan’s loss could be blamed on a multiplicity of interwoven causes.
“Jonathan was a victim and target of international cum domestic esoteric codes and conspiracies. On the international level, the passage of the anti-gay legislation led to criticisms and face-off with the US, and the West.
“The strides made in the economic sphere, especially domestic rice promotion, calculated by the Jonathan administration to flip economic growth, and boost import substitution, also negatively alerted the West. The shift to China for our railway transformation, and recently, the migration to Russia for arms and ammunition to quelling the insurgency also signalled to the West that Jonathan had started constituting a self-reliant and dependent nation-state, a feat seen too tall by the US and their allies in the West.
“The aforesaid international factors found room to flourish given the obstinacy and impudence on the part of Mrs. Jonathan. The end result of her personal ambition to plant ‘self-made’ governors triggered face-offs with some governors.”
Makbere also opined that the All Progressives Congress will perform worse than the PDP at the centre.
He said, “I can tell you that this APC will be worse than the PDP as there is already imminent fear of implosion.
“In Kano, for instance, the APC got all 40 constituencies. This meant that none of the PDP candidates were popular enough to emerge but, the PDP maintained their calm and stoicism.
“We do not know what the APC wants. Whenever they win, the PDP congratulates them, but whenever the PDP wins, the APC would induce the election observers and the electoral officers to call for a re-run or cancellation. That is the zenith of desperation.”

After May 29, President Goodluck Jonathan will leave the Aso Villa. SIMON UTEBOR was at the President’s Otuoke, Bayelsa State-country home where he is expected to retire to
The air around the sprawling estate is amazingly cool. Looking around, the answer to this quickly dawns on our correspondent. The estate is opposite a creek, and the rolling breeze keep coming.
It is Otuoke, the home town of President Goodluck Jonathan. Otuoke is a small island community in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
And there, the estate sprawls over a large expanse of land contrasting sharply with its rustic surrounding. It is said to belong to President Jonathan.
On the long road to the gates, soldiers and members of other security agencies, apparently on sentry duty, walked on the grounds. The overall air suggested guarded and protected serenity. No one needs the gift of clairvoyance to understand they are approaching a restricted zone.
Behind the gates, shoving their heads above the walls are no fewer than eight different structures apparently for different purposes: recreation, security posts and guard quarters. A visitor to Otuoke will not be penalised for calling the place a fortress.
Activities in this place, a source within said had been at a lull until a couple of weeks ago. And it is largely believed that come May 29, after the expiration of his tenure, President Jonathan would relocate to the place.
As if the President had the premonition that he would not live in Aso Rock beyond 2015, he was reported to have begun acquiring properties adjacent his sprawling country home by late 2013.
The President, SUNDAY PUNCH gathered, acquired properties on an area which runs to about seven acres of Otuoba which were around his mansion that had been there earlier.
The place was thereafter expanded to encase the mansion while new structures were erected round it.
It was also gathered that adequate compensation was paid to the owners of these properties to enable them relocate elsewhere.
It was learnt that Jonathan after acquiring those buildings in 2013, engaged the services of a construction company, Jiito, to expand the estate to accommodate his new acquisition.
Today, Jonathan’s mini – estate, which overlooks a creek that links Otuoke to other coastal communities of Bayelsa, is a cynosure of all eyes.
A visit to Otuoke on Thursday showed that Jonathan’s mansions, which had been undergoing construction and reconstruction in the last 10 years are now ready for habitation. The area they sit on is best described as an island.
It was learnt that before now, each time the President visited Otuoke, he usually slept in his wife’s (Patience) castle which is directly opposite the Federal University, Otuoke.
It was also learnt that the Jonathans own the choicest properties in Otuoke. The President was said to have built a two-storey building each for his mother and father opposite his own.
His wife, Dame Patience, asides a hotel, is also said to have numerous buildings that have been converted into hostels for FUO female students.
On the readiness of the Jonathans to return to Otuoke, one of the military personnel guarding his houses said all the mansions in the estate were ready except one.
The soldier, who declined to give his name, said the contractors were fixing air conditioners and window blinds on the last mansion.
The security operative said, “I can tell you that the houses are ready. Everything is in order. It remains only one building where the contractors are putting window blinds, curtains and air conditioners.
“I overheard some of the workers saying that they had been instructed to finish the last building before the second week of May. I think it is because the President is returning home.
“As of now, no domestic staff or relatives are living here. All his relatives have their homes. It is only military men and policemen that are living in some of the buildings.
“Even at that, many buildings are left unoccupied because the buildings are so massive and it will take a community to occupy them.”
The soldier, who said he had been living at the place for the past four years, claimed some of the President’s domestic staff were in his Kpansia, Yenagoa mansion, which he built while he was Deputy Governor of Bayelsa.
That the President will be returning to Otuoke according to the soldier, is only symbolic, stressing that apart from the mansions at Otuoke, Jonathan and his family members have numerous buildings at Okaka Estate, off Isaac Boro Expressway in Yenagoa.
Many residents of Otuoke are indeed longing to see President Jonathan, one of their illustrious sons, return home.
For them, Jonathan has made Otuoke, once a relatively unknown place, known to people outside it and turning it to a city to be reckoned with.
A resident, Prere Goodthinking, said though President Jonathan lost his re-election bid, he is God-sent, not only to Bayelsa people but to the entire country.
Prere said, “Whether people like it or not, Jonathan can best be described as an icon of Nigeria’s democracy. He is a man of peace, a gentleman and a great statesman.
“He has proved to the whole world that he is not a power-monger. He has shown the world that his ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. We want other leaders to emulate him. We are going to celebrate his return and I hope Nigerians and the world will also celebrate our illustrious son.”
Another resident, who gave his name only as Ebilari, said Jonathan had made Otuoke to be on the world map for good reasons.
She said, “About 12 years ago, Otuoke was a jungle. Most houses there were decrepit. But today, you can see that the place that was once a hamlet has become a wonderful city.
“Buildings are springing up everywhere. Life has become more meaningful for the people. Before you mention three prominent places in Bayelsa, Otuoke must come up. Thus, we are proud of our son Jonathan. We are waiting enthusiastically to receive him after his national assignment on May 29.”

Estranged: John & Abigail have dished the dirt on each other
Soccer legend John Fashanu has accused his wife of trying to kill him – after she allegedly found him bedding two women at the same time. The retired former Wimbledon and England striker said estranged Abigail Onyekwelu went for him with a knife during a furious row at their home.

Fashanu, also a former Gladiators host, is now at the centre of a bitter divorce battle with Abigail – and insists SHE cheated on him with a woman.

She denies his claims and the ­astonishing battle – which includes the ­accusation that he bedded their maid – is to be played out in the high court in Abuja, Nigeria.

According to MirrorUK, a furious Abigail, 48, said last night:
“Good riddance to bad rubbish! I’ve left him and washed my hands.”
But Fashanu, 52 – dubbed Fash the Bash for his hardman reputation in Wimbledon’s famous “Crazy Gang” – hit back with an extraordinary series of allegations.

He said he had to call in police to protect him from knife-wielding Abigail and was devastated to find her in bed with another woman. He also alleged that she stole thousands of pounds in cash from their marital home.

Speaking exclusively to the Sunday People the star – who now presents the Nigerian version of TV’s Deal or No Deal – said:
“She attempted to use knives on me. It was terrifying. My life was at stake, there’s no two ways about that. Even if you did think I was sleeping with the maid, or even if you thought I was sleeping with Miss Nigeria, don’t kill me! Just leave me and go. The violence was just too much.”
6ft 2in Fashanu added:
“My life was at risk and I didn’t want it to happen again. That’s why I filed for divorce.”
He denied his wife’s claim to have discovered him in bed with two other women – one of them their maid.
“I’ve been very fortunate to date some of the most beautiful women in the world,” Fash insisted. “I certainly don’t have to sleep with my cleaner! This is me, John Fashanu, you’re talking to. It’s absolute nonsense. If she wants to make up that ­story, at least let her say it’s Beyoncé or someone. Don’t say it’s my cleaner, that’s just b******s. It’s not true at all. 
The truth is she’s been cheating on me with a woman she calls her spiritual partner. I caught them in the bed many times. That was why I kicked her out of my house.”
Abigail is the mother of former beauty queen Adaeze Yobo. Fashanu met her in 2009. They married two years later but the relationship hit the skids last year.

Father-of-five Fashanu claimed police are now investigating an attack on him. He also ­alleged that officers are trying to retrieve missing cash from Abigail. He said:
 “I’m the one who is filing for divorce. I couldn’t stand her and, to be honest, she probably couldn’t stand me. With Abigail it was just money, money, money. 
I’ve never seen a woman who has such an appetite for money. Nearly one million Nigerian naira (around £3,300) was stolen from my house in Abuja. There are police reports you can see. 
There were so many assaults, it was just getting too much. It was absolutely ridiculous. She attacked me on multiple occasions. The whole situation was far too hot for me. There are some wonderful, wonderful women. It’s just that I met the wrong one.”
Glamorous socialite Abigail, a ­qualified lawyer and mother-in-law to former Nigerian football captain Joseph Yobo, paints a totally different picture of the marriage breakdown. The mother of four said:
“John’s saying I tried to kill him? Oh my God, this is so funny. I don’t quite ­understand all this. How can I kill him? How can ­somebody like me kill this huge man who is an expert in karate. I don’t ­understand how I can kill him.”
Told that he had accused her of going to his house armed with knives before trying to attack him, Abigail retorted: “Oh my God, that is ridiculous.”

She also rejected Fashanu’s claim that he threw her out of his house after finding her in bed with another woman. Abigail said:
“He didn’t kick me out of his house. We were living in my house. He couldn’t have kicked me out of my own house – I kicked him out.”
Of the woman concerned, she ­insisted:
“She is a good friend to me. She has a husband and children. It is ridiculous. She was living with me for a while to get back on her feet.”
Abigail went on:
“I caught him in bed with two women, the housemaid and one other woman. There were two women, it was awful. They were on the bed. They were undressed. I said to them, ‘Who are you and what’s going on here? 
He told me that he doesn’t know what he’s doing and I should pray for him. He knows how to manipulate people, that’s one thing he is good at. I last saw him in April last year. I didn’t know he’d filed for divorce. He has been calling people asking them to plead with me to get back with him. 
I would have filed for divorce myself but I haven’t because I’ve been very busy. And he asked me not to because he did not want to make it known that we had separated. So I went on my way and I left him but I didn’t tell anybody anything. 
I’ve told him, ‘I don’t want you any more, I have forgiven you, I’m a Christian. But I don’t want you any more, just leave me alone.’ I don’t take him seriously. I don’t have time for him. If I should be angry at anyone, I should be angry at myself for descending so low as to enter into marriage with such a person.”
Responding to claims she stole money from Fashanu, Abigail added:
“Anybody can say anything – but how can I go to his house and steal from him in his house? I wasn’t living there with him. He’s sick and he needs help.”
Fashanu was born in London to a Guyanan nurse, Pearl, and Nigerian ­barrister, Patrick. After they split up he had a spell in a Barnado’s home and was fostered in Norfolk. His first marriage, to Ivory Coast model Melissa Kassa-Mapsi, ended in divorce in 2004. Now Fashanu is a famous and respected figure in Africa.

He has carried out extensive charity work and is understood to have been a friend of Nelson Mandela.
He is a UN Ambassador for Nigeria, a former Unicef goodwill ambassador for 53 African countries and a former board member of the Nigeria Football Association. He also worked to develop professional football across Africa and was Nigeria’s Ambassador for Sport and Tourism. Fashanu now presents the Deal or No Deal Nigeria game show on The Africa Channel and is a successful businessman with interests in London and Abuja.

But the star suffered heartbreak when his brother Justin, who was Britain’s first openly gay professional footballer, hanged himself in London in 1988. After his brother’s suicide, Fashanu expressed remorse for disowning him because of his homosexuality. But he later claimed he did not believe Justin was genuinely gay.

Wife Abigail claims he has fathered six children by three different women.

Meanwhile he added:
“I filed the ­divorce petition in September and it’s listed for mention on the 19th of next month at the court in Abuja. We’re trying to move it through.”

Reverend Moses Iloh, a fiery social critic and founder of Soul Winning Chapel in Yaba, Lagos did the unusual last Sunday when he took his wife, Pastor Edith Iloh to the altar for a second wedding after 50 years of solemn matrimony.
ILOHThe usual wedding ceremony was witnessed by a huge crowd of relations, eminent clerics, admirers and other members of the society including the presiding bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo, founder of Nigerian Advance Party, NAP, Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, his wife and other prominent Nigerians.
Dr. Iloh, who hails from Imo State is 85 years old while his Anambra State-born wife is 11 years younger. The two lovebirds could pass for a young couple, especially with their youthful gesticulations and juvenile mannerisms during the wedding ceremony conducted by their children.
Although the couple actually tied their nuptial knots 50 years ago, last Sunday’s ceremony was unique for two reasons; their age coupled with the fact that the former ceremony was observed by their parents who gave their consent but the April 20 event was officiated by their children.
Last Sunday’s ceremony, according to the couple, was to celebrate God’s faithfulness and show appreciation to their children who have contributed immensely to the survival of their ministries. Like most marriages, the 50-year marital voyage cannot be described as an all round rosy one, but by the grace of God, the couple had been able to weather the storm.
At last weekend’s ceremony which took place at the Soul Winning Chapel, Ebute Metta, Bishop Okonkwo who preached the only sermon of the day, acknowledged that no marriage is free from challenges but God is always out to make things work out if only couples can depend on Him.
Quoting from Psalms 34:1, the cleric said there are broken marriages because many couples are often unaware that the Devil is against many homes and are unwilling to pay the needed price to keep the union work.
Okonkwo said the Ilohs were pointers to the fact that marriages still work in Nigeria. ”The Devil may tell you your marriage will not work but the fact remains that if it works for the Ilohs, then it will work for you. Let me tell you, every marriage has its challenges but God makes the difference. This couple had occasions to quit their marriage but they didn’t because they have a direction. The Devil likes to intimidate people by telling them about the impossibilities in marriages but that does not mean you should quit. Fear will stop you from attempting what naturally you could have attained,” he noted.
The bride, a former teacher with Ijero Baptist School, Apapa, Lagos, said her marriage to the cleric was an answer to prayers; ”I had prayed to God to give me a man who will love, cherish and pamper me and God gave me somebody who is 11 years older.” She was in the junior team of the Red Cross Society while her husband was in the senior team where they met.
”I was not a strong Christian at that time but there were some attributes I wanted in a man; a man who I will help to fulfil his destiny and I thank God he was caring although he was very busy but God gave me the grace to cope. He is a man of the people and he likes taking risks. Our first baby was delivered shortly after the war but God saw us through,” she explained.
The 74-year old bride used the occasion to urge younger women to be patient at home, saying ”marriage is not a bed of roses. Couples should realise this so that they don’t truncate God’s purpose for their families.”
Going down memory lane, Dr. Iloh said it took him four years to get her parents’ consent because they did not know his background while the tradition did not permit a chief’s daughter to marry outside her kindred.
”As a young man, I was so occupied to the extent that I had no time for women. Her father was a chief and the tradition did not permit her to marry outside her kinsmen but we were able to surmount the obstacle and the union has been a smooth one till date. I married her to love and cherish her. All my concern was to blend her to my vision which I achieved,” he maintained.
In a chat, a lawyer, activist and founder of Nigerian Advance Party (NAP), Dr. Braithwaite, who spoke about the state of the nation, said the incoming administration has a great task ahead.
“They have inherited a lot of mess because corruption has greatly destroyed this country. Among the members of the incoming administration are chieftains of corruption. They must endeavour to take the country to a greater cause in order to enjoy credibility of the election which is needed to rule this nation,” he stated.
