Government Shutdown Won’t Stop Issuance Of Visa –U.S Embassy

The United States Mission in Nigeria has said the ongoing government shutdown in America will not stop the issuance of visa by the embassy

It said though it will no longer be business as usual, the State Department has taken steps to continue working to advance the US  national interest.

Public Affairs Officer, US Consulate General, Lagos, Dehab Ghebreab, in a statement on Thursday, said the Department of State and USAID operations would continue on a limited basis for a short period of time.

She said, "Fee-funded activities, including visa and passport issuance, and US citizen services abroad, will continue since fees are collected to finance these services.

"Regardless of the challenges created by the shutdown,we will continue to operate to advance our national interests and protect health and safety of US citizens abroad.

"However, we are not conducting business as usual. The State Department and USAID will not hire any new personnel and is severely constraining spending."
