A former army general and major player during Nigeria's decades of military rule, Major General Mamman Kontagora, is dead.
Mr. Kontagora, born on April 20, 1944, died on Wednesday night according to a statement by the Governors Forum.
The deceased is from Kontagora in Niger State and was a former military administrator of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, during the regime of General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
The retired soldier cum politician, 69, was also a former works minister during the regime of Ibrahim Babangida. He vied for the Peoples Democratic Party presidential ticket in 2007.
