Imasabemwen Street of the ancient city of Benin, the Edo state capital was thrown into mourning on Wednesday over the death of a father of three, Patrick Essien, who reportedly committed suicide after he was allegedly sacked from the transport company where he worked as a driver.
The lifeless body of the deceased was found dangling from the roof of his
toilet located within his home at Imasabemwen Street, off Siluko Road, Benin City.
It was gathered that a co-tenant had gone to the toilet to ease himself, but after several knocks on the door without any response, peeped and then saw Patrick's lifeless body dangling from the roof.
It was also learnt from his co-tenants that the late driver was very friendly, hard-working and had been living at the residence for the past 14 years without any wife or children, but had told them about his wife and three kids somewhere.
According to them, "we saw him this morning. He said he was sacked and we later found him dead in the toilet."
His corpse was later taken away by the police.
