Call it a battle of wits, and you'll not be wrong.
The Supreme Court has struck out an appeal by former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Segun Oni, challenging the election of incumbent Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
The travails of Segun Oni began when an Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ekiti State, approved his contentious April 2007 election into office as Governor.
However, Oni's stay in office was short-lived, as his major rival, Dr. Fayemi of the ACN pursued the matter to the Appeal Court, in which the Appellate Court upturned the decision of the Election Petition Tribunal, and nullified Segun Oni's election, and reinstated Dr. Kayode Fayemi as Governor of Ekiti State in October 2010.
The development sure didn't go down well with Segun Oni, who took the matter to the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court finally delivered judgement this morning, and upheld the October 2010 judgement of the Appeal Court, which nullified the election of Segun Oni.
In an unanimous decision by a 7-man panel, led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, delivered in Abuja, the apex court said that is lacks jurisdiction, and struck out Oni's case.
