Senate Rejects Single 6-Year Term For Presidents And Governors

The Senate, this afternoon, rejected the six-year single tenure as being proposed in the newly amended constitution. 66 senators voted against it, 14 voted for it, while one senator abstained. Some other votes were the independence of the State Electoral Commission as well as allocation of funds to LGA.

The Senate also voted for the introduction life pension for all Presidents and Deputy Senate Presidents, as well as for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
