20-Year Old Beats Up Soldier, Vandalizes His Car

A young man has been arraigned before an Oshodi Magistrate's Court for assaulting a soldier and stealing from a lady.

The accused was charged to court after he was caught and beaten up by some thugs for allegedly stealing from a lady and assaulting a soldier, whose car he also vandalized.

The Police arraigned Wale Suraju and others at large for assaulting Lieutenant General Nasiru Omoboye of the Nigerian Army and for unlawfully damaging an unregistered Mazda MPV space bus valued at N1,500,000, on March 24 at about 9pm.

The complainant was going to Town Planning area of Ilupeju, Lagos when he was attacked by a group of area boys, who came out with different objects and started hitting his car with them.

When the soldier asked why they attacked his vehicle, they descended on him too.

Nasiru said he was able to identify the accused.
He said after he managed to escape, he mounted a surveillance for the accused.

On March 28, at about 8pm, the accused was caught as he made attempt to steal a phone from a lady's bag.
A good samaritan who happens to be a Man-o-War official, caught the accused.

The soldier claimed he also spotted the accused stealing from the lady's bag and he chased him.
Sunday Okon, the Man-o-War official, said he heard people shouting "thief, thief," so, he alighted from a bus at Oshodi to help the victim.

"The man threatened to kill me with a gun if I don't release him. I saw him as he snatched the phone. Some area boys came around and beat him up; they wanted to even set him ablaze, but I insisted he must be handed to the Police," Okon said.

The complainant was called to identify the suspect and he confirmed that he was the same man that beat him up.
He asked that the man be charged to court.
