Justice Okechukwu Okeke of a Federal High Court, Lagos, has adjourned the trial of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr. Adeyemi Ikuforiji, indefinitely, accusing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of deliberately delaying the matter to blackmail the court.
Ikuforiji is being prosecuted along with his personal assistant, Oyebode Atoyebi, by the EFCC for money laundering charges, part of which was allegedly receiving over N500 million from the House of Assembly without going through a financial institution.
Okechukwu, who retires from the judicial bench on May 18, said his decision to adjourn indefinitely was in the interest of justice to thwart EFCC's tactics to blackmail the court.
