The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, FCT is set to begin the use of digital toll gates.
The digital toll gates will be managed by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in partnership with First Bank Nigeria PLC, so as to ensure efficiency and accountability at the airport.
The spokesperson for FAAN, Abuja airport, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, said, "The automated service became imperative to plan against insecurity as well as to ensure transparency in the collection of fare at the airport entrance."
According to Yakubu, people "will no longer stand there collecting N200."
She said, "There will be a bar at the entrance. If they don't put the correct amount of money or a chip, as the case may be, the bar will not lift. I can confirm to you that it is something that will take place very soon.
"We are planning to go on air to educate members of the public on this because there is nowhere in the world where people park to pay money at airports. It will not only speed up the process, but will boost security at the airport."
This move is against the backdrop of FAAN losing huge sums of money to motorists, amidst other irregularities.
