34 LASU Students Face Extra Year

34 students of the Lagos State University face the prospect of having an extra semester, or worst still an extra year in the University.
These unlucky 34 students have missed the first two days of the First Semester Examinations due to their detention at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja. Their arrest is connected to the killings of an upcoming singer and a student of the University, Damino Damoche, and another student, Kabiru Atoyebi in the spate of three days.
It was learnt that men of the Lagos State Police Command stormed the male hostels located off the campus and picked up suspects connected to the killings. Majority of the 34 students have been released after interrogation by the police, but some are still in detention.
The Students' Union Government of the University had appealed to the school authorities to allow the students to participate in the exams, since most of them have been released from detention.
A senior official of the University said it was not the fault of the University that the affected students missed a few days of the examinations. He added that the University would not make any concession for them, he also said that a few students cannot hold the entire University to ransom.
Meanwhile the Lagos State Police Commissioner, Umar Manko urged students of LASU to go about their school activities, assuring them of police protection. The CP also said that investigation into the killings was still ongoing.
