A middle-aged woman, popularly known as Madam Ajayi has been arrested for killing a two-year-old boy, Toluwalase Fadahunsi, in Iju, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
It was gathered that the woman sneaked into the room where Toluwalase was sleeping, and smashed a bottle on his head.
The boy's cry attracted his mother who rushed into the room to find him in the pool of his blood.
Before help could come from the neighbours, the boy reportedly died due to the impact of the bottle on his head.
The mother's reaction got neighbours attracted to the scene. The suspect's attempt to escape was thwarted, and she was reportedly beaten blue-black.
However, the suspect was later rescued from the angry mob and handed over to the police in Iju/Itaogbolu.
It was learnt that the woman kept saying that she did not know what she had done, and could not say exactly what made her kill the innocent boy.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo, who confirmed the incident, said the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, for investigation.
