Eight students of the Lagos State University were arraigned on Tuesday at an Ikeja Magistrates' Court for impersonating Nigerian Navy officers and threatening policemen at Ojo Police Division.
The students- Etim Okon, Moruf Adegbite, Badmos Ishola, Victor Nwoakoro, Tajudeen Adigun, Busayo Ibikunle, Oluwatosin Campbell, and Idris Abubakar, were arraigned on two counts of impersonation and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emeurhi, said on June 21, 2013, Badmos Ishola was detained for impersonating an officer of the Nigerian Navy .
He said, "On that day, other accused students went to the police station in Ojo and threatened the police officer on duty for arresting Ishola. They wore naval uniforms and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace."
Emeurhi said the defendants contravened Section 44 (4), 77 (a) (b), Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The students, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs B.O Osunsanmi, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety each in like sum. She adjourned the case till July 24, 2013.
