Man Sells 6-Month Old Son To Procure Visa To Greece

The Abia State Police Command has arrested one Mr. Onyekachi Ekwelum, for allegedly selling his 6-month old son to raise funds to process his travel documents.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Usman Abubakar Tilli, who disclosed this to journalists said the suspect would be appearing before a Magistrate in court to defend his action.

The suspect, allegedly hatched and executed the act without the consent of the wife, but the lid was blown off by his 20-year old spouse, Ozioma when she could not find their son and reported the matter to the police. Prior to the incident, her husband had wanted to travel to Greece. It was gathered that the police mounted a manhunt that led to the rescue of the child and the apprehension of the suspects.

The Commissioner described the act as inhuman, and has expressed concern over the high rate of child trafficking in Abia State.

He added that the suspects in the criminal transaction have been apprehended and charged to an Umuahia Magistrate Court.
