Lagos Gets First Suspension Bridge In Nigeria

The Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, has taken another giant step to re-position the state amongst the power house cities of the world by building the first suspension bridge in Nigeria.

The 1.358 kilometer bridge, which will link Ikoyi (Alexander Street) to Lekki (Admiralty Way), cost about N29 billion and toll would be collected to recover the money expended on the project.

The construction of the bridge was handled by Julius Berger, and the construction actually began in October 2008.

The new bridge will be formally commissioned by Governor Fashola soon, and it is expected to decongest traffic in the Lekki area of Lagos and will become a beauty to behold because of its aesthetic and architectural design.
