Fire Guts National Population Census Office In Lagos

The Lagos State office of the National Population Census (NPC) was on Sunday gutted by fire.

The fire which started at about 3.15pm on a building which housed ballot boxed belonging to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the NPC office complex located on Babs Animashaun Street, Surulere, Lagos had spread to a nearby building.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Razak Fadipe who confirmed the development said that fire-fighters and fire engines from Fire Service Departments in Isolo, Ilupeju and Sari-Iganmu battled to contain the inferno.

"The spill over from the fire had affected a nearby building, but the fire-fighters were able to bring the situation under control shortly after their arrival.

"Our men are now battling to bring the fire in the building housing the ballot boxes under control," Fadipe said.

He also added that the extent of the damage was not clear and no casualties were recorded.

The NPC building is close to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Lagos State Secretariat.
