University Of Ibadan Student Bags Jail Term For Fraud

A first year student of the University of Ibadan, Daramola Olawale, has been sentenced to 8 years imprisonment for charges of advance fee fraud (419).

Justice L. Mohamed Shaiubu of a Federal High Court sitting in Enugu, sentenced Daramola Olawale on a four-count charge.

Daramola had pleaded not guilty when he was first arraigned in May 2012, but later changed his plea to guilty after a plea bargain was struck.

The four count charge for advance fee fraud were brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Daramola was accused of defrauding a certain Rev. Jeffrey Ramsey the sum of N200,000 by purportedly representing himself as a custom agent under false pretences.

The court however sentenced Daramola to two years imprisonment on each of the four counts.
The sentence to run concurrently with effect from the 12th of May, 2012 when he was first arrested and detained.
The recovered monetary exhibit is to be returned to the nominal complaint issued at Enugu under the seal of the court and the hand of the presiding judge.
